The cage is slim enough to not be seen in 360 mode but yeah, the lens protector is visible if left open, it looks like this black void in the sky lol. I mainly just use the flip out protector when its time to put it down on the table, not sure home many times I have bumped it on accident and over the x3 rolls onto the exposed lens 😬 Gopro max gave you two small lens covers, made of flexible plastic, guess that was too expensive or too hard to engineer for insta 🤦♂️ I also use a little velvet bag when I am on the go to protect the lenses, has done the trick so far. Still a fun little camera and worth protecting. Do you have one over there as well fishycomics?
Thanks, just put this on order. Noticed that this unit doesn't come with a lens cover like some of the other options. Would you be able to confirm which lens cover will fit with this frame on? I.e the insta360 x3 lens cover?
Hey there Morgan, thanks for checking out the vid! I am embarrassed to say, but I never bought any lens protection, one of the reasons why this cage was so enticing. Sorry I can't help out with your question, I bet the insta versions would work though. The cage gives you the full area on front and back as to not get in the way of 360 stitching, should also give the space to flip the top lens holder swivel. Good luck and hope you enjoy the cage ✌️

Looks good with many options to mount but... you can fit the standard rubber lens cover, so your lenses are always unprotected, even when you store the unit in your bag?

I think, looking at the guards and the room on the cage, the guards should still fit while in the cage. Sorry I can't be more definitive on your question but hope that helps. Good luck!

That was an older cube style light in the vid but if I had to get a new one I would get the new MC Pros from Aputure. they are pretty versatile and you could use it for a lot of other things. Good luck, hope that helps!

Hey David, thanks for checking this out also! I have the Gopro max as well, that was my first venture 5ish years ago. They are pretty fun and can get you some cool b-roll or just capture everything in some situations. Timelapse's are its strong points, very easy to pull off on both. A bit hard to edit the footage on both, since its a lot of app based work. Gopro app seems easier to edit on, the insta has taken a little while to get used to. Lots more possibilities with the insta however, more slightly gimmicky vids you can do. It's a fun little camera to play with despite its quirks. Kinda late to the party for a review vid but will hopefully do something on it soon. Thanks for checking out the vid and the comments!
It does not come with those things unfortunately, I have been seeing those lens hoods recently and they look pretty nice, its really all it needs. This titla version only has the swivel plate on top and that does well when on the table, but the glass is still exposed. Good luck and thanks for checking out the vid!

Just got my tilta cage today. But it doesn't feel right when I insert my x3 in it. Feels tight inserting. Is it normal? Seems that the cage's inside is like 0.5-1mm smaller for the x3's body and you need to press harder to lock the cage. The x3's rear is exposed by a few millimeters vs the front. Is that the case with yours? Just being OC lol
lol Chris, it is a little snug for sure. I had to wiggle it around a bit to get it to really sit centered perfectly inside it. these cages usually do have a snug fit, I don't remember noticing anything out of the ordinary on mine. Nice video. Nice piece of accessory , but I am not convince the lens is 100% protected from scratches .I learned the hard way, I did get my 360 X3 back from repairing the scratch lens and it cost me around $110 USD. but it might be a good alternative from the Insta 360 company is selling to protect the lens of the X3.

I wonder how you could use the 90° lens protection when you mount the camera on a selfie stick. Now you have extra mounting options on the cage. I can imagine that there are some tricks you could use to get some usable angles, be it not completely 360°.

@@deejaybialy you might not need mics soon, check out how good noise reduction is getting just using the onboard X3 mics. th-cam.com/video/BSrePlZ3Phc/w-d-xo.html. The better the signal though, the better the result....for now at least. Good luck finding the right cage for your gear!
@@deejaybialy I have been using it in all my vids recently alongside a decent shotgun mic but in a pinch when I need to use my phone or the dji Lavalier mics, it makes everything sound good....and so easy. sometimes it is a little robotic sounding but I will take that over the long chain of audio plug-ins I used to have to use. Davinci resolve is also implementing this feature in their own way, worth a check out. Good luck man!

Hey there, a few other folks have asked about this. Unfortunately I don’t have the Insta 360 mic here, and it sounds like it from others, it does not fit with the cage. I have been using the X3 without a mic and running it through Adobe’s podcasting, noise reduction tool, and getting really good results. I use the camera lens protectors but to be honest I'm not sure what level of protection they'll really provide if the X3 falls off the motorbike. It seems odd to me is that the cage profile is not a millimetre or 2 thicker than the X3 itself to give the display screen some level of protection from a drop. At the moment, if it falls face down, that screen is taking a direct hit.

I think tilta made the cage like that to hide from the line of sight of the 360lens. I agree, would be great if we had real protection for those vulnerable lens’ lol. welp.... brought this and now i found out that the adaptor won't fit less you sand down the plastic on the adaptor or buy a 90 degree usb c adaptor lol

mic adapter doesn't fit, and the gopro mount at the bottom will vibrate to hell and ruin the shots. still the best cage imo, but these flaws keep getting ignored cuz ppl got a free cage. the lens protectors introduce an ugly seam into the footage so those are a wash and the condensation gets inside it constantly in humid shooting conditions.
I saw tilta at NAB this year and let them know everyone's comments on this vid, they even read through a few of them at the booth lol. They said they would fix it lol...sure ;) I have mixed feelings on the whole X3 experience also. All these little cams have their quirks, currently testing out the canon v10 right now and same story, a weird little cam but but they are fun and pocketable, stick em in small spaces. I was about to get it since I love that thing to protect the lens, but is sad that you cannot use the mic adapter :-( Update: I was checking other videos and basically there is no cage in which you can use the Mic adapter as far as I can see :-( sooo if that is the case, if I have to remove it to use the mic, I will rather buy this one to have the extra lens protections hehehe

mic adapter doesn't fit, and the gopro mount at the bottom will vibrate to hell and ruin the shots. still the best cage imo, but these flaws keep getting ignored cuz ppl got a free cage. the lens protectors introduce an ugly seam into the footage so those are a wash and the condensation gets inside it constantly in humid shooting conditions.
I saw tilta at NAB this year and let them know everyone's comments on this vid, they even read through a few of them at the booth lol. They said they would fix it lol...sure ;) I have mixed feelings on the whole X3 experience also. All these little cams have their quirks, currently testing out the canon v10 right now and same story, a weird little cam but but they are fun and pocketable, stick em in small spaces. @@TheFloodLightShow i can't get this footage to be salvageable during the best moments on stage to save my life. once the strobes hit that's a wrap, the drone pole is amazing, until again the strobes hit. i wish they'd get the tech together to make these things work for my clients
Great video!!! I was about to get it since I love that thing to protect the lens, but is sad that you cannot use the mic adapter :-( Update: I was checking other videos and basically there is no cage in which you can use the Mic adapter as far as I can see :-( sooo if that is the case, if I have to remove it to use the mic, I will rather buy this one to have the extra lens protections hehehe
good choice! I have been using Adobe's podcaster noise reduction tool and it works really well, no mic needed most times. Davinci Resolve also has a new noise reduction tool that works well. Hope you enjoy the cage and thanks for watching and letting us know what you discovered. Take care!
