hailey maher so teaching a horse to put their head down and relax is NOT the approach. Teaching a horse patiently through pressure and release allows a horse to be relaxed throughout their training. When relaxed the head typically drops to where they are comfortable. My horses get confused at times too but I try to quickly recognize that and change my approach. As far as backing up? That comes from consistent repetition. No simple solution, If having trouble I will reinforce that they understand how to back while I’m on the ground. Hope that helps !
I find if I ,,slowly at first, work my horse in backing up hill, on a incline,, it forces them to pick up thier feet & step back ,rather than shuffle back,,when they can back up hill at a normal speed they can real step on back on the flat!!

I think it doesn't matter the age as long as the horse is healthy they get to the point they enjoy spinning you are correct with your methods .

So basically, all the corrections are to be outside the spin so the horse will consider staying in the spin a relief. Thanks, now I`ve got it!
