  • Here are 4 exercises to help improve and troubleshoot a few of the common issues people will often run into while teaching their horse to turnaround, or spin. It's important to take your time with each of these exercises and make sure that your horse is staying relaxed and thinking his way through the maneuver.

    I really enjoyed watching your approach to teaching the spin. This is the 2nd video of yours I have watched concerning the spin. You do an awesome job. I was really glad that you mention about that inside front foot getting back so the horse can crossover better. Thanks for sharing.

    Another great video! I tried the spin at my lesson but not very successful. I like watching you as I can see exactly what your legs and hands are doing. Glad I found your channel.

    Thank you so much for sharing this! I've never ridden or taught a spin before (english rider through and through here), but I'm curious to give it a try on our school horses that already have this education!

      Thank you for watching! The spin is a thrilling maneuver to ride when a horse knows his job and it's great for any rider to work on for their own timing! Give it a go! We also have many English horses come through for foundation training and they all learn these simple exercises, not necessarily so they can spin, but because it dramatically improves their "power steering" and freedom in the shoulders.

    Ican't wait to try this with my guy... also, How can I help my colt move his feet better/faster?

      Robyn, thanks for watching! Be sure your horse has good impulsion and energy in his feet before beginning the spin. Once in the spin, be sure to use a rhythm of accelerated pressure/release to motivate him, instead of trying to press and hold him in the turn without release. Hope this makes sense. If at any point your horse completely loses momentum, push him back out to a brisk walk and try again. 👍

    What’s the time frame for each exercise ?

      I usually don't work on an exercise for too long. Once I start to see results and that horse is beginning to give me the desired answer, then I move on. These are all exercises that tie into, or improve, another maneuver, so it's important not to drill on them. I usually spend under 10 minutes at a time on something like this.

    Do horses get dizzy when they spin?

    • @zacharias.horsemanship
      @zacharias.horsemanship  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's possible if they're turning at really high speeds for long periods of time, but it doesn't usually happen. You can tell if a horse is beginning to get dizzy and switch it up. 👍

    I love your videos but would LOVE more of an explanation of what you are doing eg where hands and feet need to be - dumb it down a bit us. I need step by step instructions - sorry
