- This amazing cactus garden is located near the highway just out of the small town of Gilgandra. Behind this Cactus jungle there is an extraordinary collection of Cacti and succulents (over 1000 species). Gardening Australia 2019 episode 23.

what a cool guy! I could talk to him about his garden all day. I'm sure such a wonderful collection takes a lot of work to care for!
He was completely rude to me when I visited. Maybe its just a act for the camera

People who develop a passion for one particular plant species amaze me. And it's usually men for some reason! This guy's cacti are pristine. What a beautiful obsession.

@@Rk-kk2jy he wasn't wishing for the old man to die you fool. Everyone will eventually dies. That's a fact. But by having someone younger taking care of the plants after he is gone, you're preserving the old man's legacy through his collections.
He already does have people helping care for it that will most likely take over it
He really should write a book with pics and infos or start a youtube channel to speak about these plants ......

Foodways Distribution ok ty that’s not bad though out of 16 cuttings ( for 3-4 nice and full plants later with extra Incase of unforeseen circumstances there was one one that happened to the other are going strong. I figured I’d try it that way cuz it’s supposed to bring roots a lot faster may God bless u

I can relate. There a very few things that I would be genuinely hurt over if they got destroyed and my cacti are one of those things.

I live in an area that has a winter that lasts a few months and we can get zero degree temps. A person in a gardening group gave me a prickly pear pad. I ignored it and left it for a bit, finally got around to planting it. A few weeks later.... big pretty yellow flowers. I'm told it will survive outside in the winter!! So cool, really cheap to grow.

I’ve seen quite a few cactus gardens and collections but never one with so many home grown very mature specimens. That barrel towards the end is jaw dropping! Such a pleasant gentleman, with such a prickly hobby. ;-)

Lesson learned from gramps: people tend to say it's time to stop. Him saying so why do stop? I salute you gramps your right why stop? If your enjoying what you loved? Your hardwork pays off look at those beautiful cacti it's amazing that those cactus is older than me imagine one of the cactus is 70 years old 😲 . Being a young one inspired me to plant now and watch my plants grow like what you did and tell the new generation in the future how I managed to grow that lovely plant. Thank you gramps. 😊💕
Cacti are cool and I love them, nothing else in nature is quite like them and I just adore the variety of shapes and flowers.

What an absolute gorgeous garden! I just started my porch container garden and the cacti have certainly become some of my favorites, have 16 little ones so far and planning on adding more. But I have to say, how wonderful it must be to wander by all those giants! It’ll take a lot of time before any of mine reach those heights, but it’ll be worth the wait.

What an amazing collection. I, like you, started my collection when I was 9. I had my first greenhouse when I was 14 ! I'm now 77, but no longer have my collection of over 2000 plants due to divorce !! I no longer have the room now. I however have a very large Echinocactus Grusonii that takes some strength to move. Recently started a collection of Lithops, fascinating plants but temperamental . I didn't have the luxury of the climate you do, I live in the Midlands in the UK.
Martin Forrester, losing your huge collection of plants that you were so intimately familiar with must have been absolutely devastating. I'm so sorry for your loss, seriously. It's like the death of a loved one. I'm glad to hear you've found a new plant interest. Those lithops are some funny little guys.

Off the charts. The huge Ferocactus are only for lottery winners. Some of those species I didn't know got that large. Good sized,but he's got them tree sized. The greenhouse must knock decades off of waiting for them. Not that what he has outdoors is second rate,not by a longshot.

I really love this plant...Im living in tropical environment so sad couldnt get many varity of cactus..some peoples sell it with a very high price especially cactus with mixed colour(not talking bout flower)..also is lithop same with cactus?
