So beautiful! I bought a hive, but I've been too intimidated to try and start. I love watching your videos!

It’s a little overwhelming at first but you just have to dive right in. I lost my bees the first year but then I started getting spring swarms and kept building up. Keep watching videos and reading books through the winter then go for it. Swarms are usually easy to get and it’s better to get locally adapted bees rather than buying them. Feel free to ask questions anytime. Good luck!

Now is the time to start planning!! Get with your local beekeepers and see who have nucs to sell. They usually go fast so reserving one now for spring is ideal. I started my journey last spring and I haven't regretted it a single moment. Not even the first time I popped that nuc open to transfer them to the hive. First time even seeing a honeybee up close for me in real life, but doing the research and watching videos/reading books made it so much better and way less scary. So far I have been fortunate enough not to get stung, but it's bound to happen. Nothing a little Benadryl won't fix if it does. 😅
But do it! Take the plunge, you won't regret it, and come harvest time, it'll all be worth it as the room you're extracting in fills with the most intense honey smell you've ever experienced, and it's all yours!

They say that if you eat honey with a metal spoon it will take away the enzymes or nutrients… won’t this process do the same thing????

That is largely a myth. While honey is acidic and could cause some metals to corrode if it stays in contact for a very long time, brief contact with stainless steel extractor or a spoon for a short time will not destroy all the enzymes in honey. The worst enemies of enzymes are high heat and strong acidity (very low pH).
