And I thought finding targets in Arma 3 was hard.... Though yes, this again shows that it is an accurate game. What I "learned" there was to look for shapes and for any sort of movement. I looked mostly for a head shape, the general body shape, or a rifle. Even movements as low as your breathing were helpful to me. Camouflage is an amazing topic and I love that you show us all the different approaches, and how not only the pattern, but also the soldier's behaviour is important. BTW, in most scenes, I spotted you after about one to three seconds, but in a few I would have dieded.
A few times I spotted you immediately, others my reaction was "HOLY SHIT! I didn't realise he was that close!" Sometimes you can't see what's right in front of you.
the problem is, even if it takes a few seconds that's a few seconds you and your buddies would be getting shot...Pretty much the the only way to deal with this kind of shit in war is to have flir setup and shoot at any heat signature in the area.
Also imagine an entire FOV of this. Instead of a still frame shot where you know to be looking. Imagine patrolling days on end, easy to get complacent I bet.
The disadvantage anyone trying to spot you has is that you understand that proper "camouflage" is about more than just the pattern on the clothes you're wearing.
I know this may sound childish, if you will, but after watching your other videos like these, 'studying' the patterns' effectivenes in different lighting, densness of vegetation, etc, I find not only have I become more proficient in concelment during an airsoft op, but its also easier to spot the opposing team members who even attempt to utilize their camo, which they do quite ineffectively. Thank you for the upper hand, awesome videos, and of course, service.
Just found your video's tonight. This was Hilarious. I could not stop laughing. I kept stopping the video to find you, I only got close once, & it was an accident. Very entertaining, and, amazing just how effective camo really is. The thing that I find absolutely confusing though! Is hard it is to fool birds with camo. Especially duck. I do not hunt bird anymore though so.....moot. Great video, look forward to watching more. God-bless.
Great job again! I agree, that French Lizard camo is top-notch in that grass, especially when you added some foliage to breakup the outline of your boonie. I found a pattern that I think would do well in your area : M2D Camo by the Made to Deceive company. Keep up the good work; I'm really digging these videos.
I had you picked out 10 times... much easier than Part 4 (Part 4 is the first one I saw).. probably helps that I watched it in full-screen lol.. on to Part 2 & 3!!!
you did really great on concealment, and after a while it was easier to pick you out, sometimes it was impossible to, but eventually the eye is drawn to the out of place area even if the human form is not really visible...still, great job and great training aid...i would not want to be on the opposite side of the muzzle from you...
LOL, awesome! Easy at first, then about 50/50, and then you got super wily toward the end! It's one thing to spy out with glasses at a distance, but anyone, patrol etc who blunders into that would only have a couple seconds until cut down. If trying to do it in 3 seconds - the effectiveness skyrockets at that point.
i would also add that this proves that with proper concealment, even if the camo is not optimal for the region, or time of year, it still can be effective when the person using it knows where to conceal themselves...
WWII German Dot 44 Tunic, mainly used by the Waffen SS during the war. Your tunic is a Chinese Repo, probably bought from "at the front" website, looks like something they would carry in their inventory, however there are plenty of ebay companies peddling the Chinese made Dot 44 stuff as well. Great vid, like the Tunic! :-)
Cool, and very true. I know some guys actually do mix their camo like that intentionally because of the difference in say the ground (tall grass, mud, or whatever) vs. the foliage, branches and such up higher that they want their upper half to blend with. Not really my style but then whatever works. I love all your videos and I think theirs still a couple out there I haven't seen, but I will.
Up here in the frozen north, it is taught to wear overwhite pants and camo parka when on roads or in sparse evergreens. Overwhite top with camo bottom when in waist high brush (certain latitudes and altitudes have a lot of that). Overwhite top and bottoms only when in you're in true barren snowy wastes (really far north or really high up)
Hey awesome video man. I'm going to run my team through these to keep there mind sharp, especially the pointman. The only think I could see to improve these is setting something out there for a size reference. Many times it appeared I was looking at a scene fare away and then you pop up huge. Just hard to tell depth perception on a computer haha. Great stuff though man.
Great stuff, Man! Would appreciate if you could stop in front of the camera so we can see the pattern(s) of camo you have chosen. Also, if you could identify the names of the camo at the end. Thanks...Keep it up! What was your MOS?
great vid for training the eye to ick out shape rather than movement like the ast guy said I didn't sot at least four im a kia need more bro great training vid
I missed him on 10 scenes!! Fuuuuuuucckkk my ass would be dead... xD I can't blame 720p either because I was at least able to find him consistently at other times. Thank you so much for doing this Brent! Really enjoying your content and I don't see things like this anywhere else on the youtubes!
part of my job involves quality inspection of small impressions an such and i couldn't find you 60% of the time in time. camo is awesome. perhaps the lack of depth of the camera image makes it harder.
+Silver Marlon 720p, lack of depth, lack of fine-noise pickup, etc. Still, it's quite something to see how effective this can be. I doubt an enemy would give time to scan the area and I doubt anyone could scan every inch of ground they pass near. Foliage is insane. No wonder we lost so many troops in Vietnam.
A lot of stuff coming out of Strum now is Chinese repo stuff too, which sucks, cause they use to make everything in house, and they had some really killer stuff. Now they have contracted out with a company in China to produce stuff that they can sell under their name, just like Atthefront is doing. Sportsmanguide is all Chinese made stuff under the Strum name, as I said earlier in my post. I loved the 1950/1960's Austrian Dot camo, use to be everywhere, now it is much harder to find...
My point is that when you are crouching or laying prone it is very difficult to see you no matter what camo you are wearing. Which is in itself a valuable lesson in concealment. You usually then proceed to walk in front of the camera without stopping or posing. If you were to stand still against the background 10-30 ft we could compare the diff patterns. Just constructive criticism do what you will with it.
Brent I just posted my Tavor Tiger stripe camouflage paint job and wrap. Let me know what you think and if there is anything i should do to improve it. Thanx!
love your channel man! you seem very dedicated and you enjoy sharing your knowledge. I'm in my senior year of high school and plan on enlisting in the Navy to become a corpsman. My dad was Army and my stepdad was Marine Corps so I figured I'd mix it up. If you have any advice I'd appreciate it ! peace - Noah
+Ichigo Kurosaki Corpsman are the best part of the Navy. There are very few Corpsman (on the green side) that I didn't think were highly professional individuals.
yeah I hope I can do well enough in Corpsman school to go green side right out the gate. I figured with that training after I get out I can become a paramedic or something along those lines. Something health related that doesn't require me to go to school for half my life lol
Noah Crouse Well, you will go to school "half your life" anyways. If you want to use your military qualification to actually become a paramedic, the training's gonna be the same. Or, of course, you only do combat medic in the military and then upgrade your qualification to paramedic later on. In the end, combat medicine is a LOT different from emergency medicine in civilian life. As soon as you are wearing dark blue and not tan anymore, you won't tourniquet off a bleeding arm or leave an unresponsive person that's not breathing behind.
I noticed in Afghanistan a lot of the fighting takes place in small towns with those small compounds and they are all the same color walls and homes. What pattern is used for that? Which brings us to in Urban Camo in America. Only effective thing I can think of is hiding in plain site. Getting produce boxes at Costco and concealing weapons in them. The test would be carrying a large cache of weapons right by a police unit and if they were to not notice. Vietnam had in city weapons smuggling.
Man it was a slaughter, somewhere around 3 or 4 to one kill ratio on your part. That french Lizard is amazing, I'm going to order some. I've been using Chief supply.com, where do you get yours? I need to try to do one of these with my ATACS FG before it get's out of season.
I am absolutely serious. Have you ever seen "Sniper"? www.imdb.com/title/tt0108171/ Your shots are so wonderfully crafted, I was engaged as if it were a game. Only the BEST directors can give you that sensation which you produce naturally.
These video's are pretty fun, but I hate to say it, most of the time the shooter is BEHIND a bunch of shrubs, that's not camouflage, that's concealment. Anybody can conceal themselves BEHIND thick vegetation.
+SteveVon7 That's the point of the video. The enemy uses cover and concealment, they don't sit out in the open. This video is meant to train your eyes to look for unnatural things in the picture. The shape of a head, rifle barrel, etc. In every scene I'm aimed in at the camera so if I can see you, you can see me.
+SteveVon7 There were also times when he was in the open, and not too far away, and I honestly didn't spot him in time because I was looking in the areas where I knew he could more easily hide. A testament to Brent's knowledge of concealment and choice of camo.
Mitznefet is the name of those Israeli helmet camo nets that look chefs hats or pancakes. Wiki, ebay, goggle "Mitznefet". Used to break up helmet lines.
Thanks man, I'll be checking them out. You've got a really good channel, great information. I've gained a lot of knowledge from your camo effectiveness videos. Keep up the great work!
I noticed that most of your choices in camo involved mixing different tops and bottoms. Is that something you favor for effectiveness, or were you just going for an insurgent kind of look?
+WhoWouldWantThisName This series of videos I made was supposed to simulate an enemy. Many times insurgents have mixed uniforms because they wear what they can get their hands on. That is the effective I was trying to achieve with these videos.
Thanks, I actually just bought a 4k camera, my computer and editing software can't handle it though. I have to film in 1080p or convert the 4k to 1080p.
I saw you 11 times, but admittedly I wouldn't have found you if I wasn't actively searching for you. I also likely would have been shot before I found you as well.
Thanks bro. I'm going to have to hold off for a few weeks though, wife will kill me if she comes home to another box on the porch anytime soon. I had a bunch of stuff show up back to back on days she's home before me LOL.
Dude been watching your vids for awhile. Gotta tell ya that all your camo looks the same esp. from far away. Cool series.I have often thought adout mix matching tops and bottoms on certain uniforms and there effectivness, thanks...
SOF teams have done it for years
5:41 is truely amazing invisibility.

We need more of these. Be great in 4k, some resolution lost at 720p.
If he could do these with one of those 360 degree cameras where you actually have to look around for him. That would bring this to a whole new level.
I would be DEAD! I love the usage of "44 Dot"!
R Johnson Thanks, glad you liked it.

Ghillie-ing up the boonie makes all the difference.

Great job on this video. Couple scenarios ur silhouette wasn't broken up enough but still for common eye good stuff
This is like a military Where's Waldo haha. It's really interesting seeing how effective some of this camo can be.
I enjoy playing hide and seek with your camo videos and my draw practice
Excillent video Brent very difficult to find you.Its good training for the eyes .Thank ypu brother

7:43 I find this interesting because I feel like the black ski mask is what gave this one away almost instantly.

Can you list the camo patterns you use in the vids? I'm trying to come up with an insurgent/terrorist loadout for Central War.
love your channel man! you seem very dedicated and you enjoy sharing your knowledge. I'm in my senior year of high school and plan on enlisting in the Navy to become a corpsman. i tell ya what would be neat to go along with that. set a target up near the camera and shoot at it so far into each hide scene!
I'd like to see a review of the full erbsenmuster pattern, like that jacket u began the video with.
I noticed in Afghanistan a lot of the fighting takes place in small towns with those small compounds and they are all the same color walls and homes. What pattern is used for that? I managed to not get killed a total of four times, you are quite the artist at camouflage.

nice video man! How many sets of BDUs do u have? u seem to have it all!
I These videos are great for training for paintball. I know that was not the intended purpose but it helps out all the same, Thanks.
Thanks, glad they help.
Excellent and unique vid man. Good work!
You are an absolute film genius.
Ha, I wouldn't go that far.... Thanks though.

good work your super sneaky..i could only find you in machine gunner loadout cause of the bipod shape/color stuck out to me
Is that a 44 pea dot tunic?
Could you list the camo patterns used in these videos and where to get them?
You're quite effective. You'd do ok as long as Guy La'flir wasn't looking for you.
Good job, I'm learning a lot from you. Keep up the good work.
Liked added to favorites and subscribed. That was a good vid.
AWESOME! Look forward to more.
Great video man
Appreciate it.
do more of these they are awesome
There are three of them under the “OPFOR” playlist on my channel. I’ll probably make more in the coming spring.

What techniques would you suggest to help spot people in camo?
4:40...DAYUM! Dead to rights bro.
Awesome video. Found you once - but only because I was actifly looking for you. I reckon I would have been slotted on the rest. Kudos :-)
cocopud Glad you enjoyed.
good one cheers ... head seen first ...
Very good training. Great video!
Sollym4 Thanks for watching, there are a few other videos just like this under the OPFOR playlist on my channel if you're interested.
Thanks man, I'll be checking them out. You've got a really good channel, great information. I've gained a lot of knowledge from your camo effectiveness videos. Keep up the great work!
nice weapon collection all yours ?
This is a bit of an old pick up but was that Rhodesian or Portugese Lizard at the end you were wearing?
French lizard.
hey brent wht is that leopard pattern
This is a good practice for my eyes , and according to the video , i've died about 6 times .
I noticed that most of your choices in camo involved mixing different tops and bottoms. Is that something you favor for effectiveness, or were you just going for an insurgent kind of look?

Aaah, classic 44' SS-dot camouflage
Excillent video brent
Thanks
Excellent!!
This is a great idea. Would also benefit from higher resolution video. Keep it up.
Thanks, I actually just bought a 4k camera, my computer and editing software can't handle it though. I have to film in 1080p or convert the 4k to 1080p.
Quite effective.
What's the pattern you're wearing at the begining of this video when you describe what you are doing?
+Mark Stuber M44 dot tunic and French lizard trousers.
+Brent0331 Am I entirely mistaken if I say the top you got on there looks a lot like the SS Erbsenmuster or Platanenmuster?
nice works well
Prone camo was deadly for me.
I saw you 11 times, but admittedly I wouldn't have found you if I wasn't actively searching for you. I also likely would have been shot before I found you as well.
Find Waldo before he finds you.
good stuff.
+davidlmatteson Thanks, appreciate the support.
And not even wearing a ghillie suit
AK-74, Yugo M72 RPK, then a PSL?
its been awhile since I watched this all the way through but I own all those weapons you named off so your probably right.
Supposedly John Mosby refers to it as I.C.U. =P
hi did u use the french lisard patern ? cause it look like to it
Yes, in some parts of the video i'm wearing French Lizard pattern.
Thanks bro. I'm going to have to hold off for a few weeks though, wife will kill me if she comes home to another box on the porch anytime soon. I had a bunch of stuff show up back to back on days she's home before me LOL.
Where are you located? looks somewhat like my area.
North Texas
Never mind, very different locations.
At 3:32 I spotted him instantly
this is cool
AAR: Brent 15, Doug 7.
Coo video
Awsome

TankJockey38 Maybe in the future.
