“Ah, breaker one-nine, this here’s the Rubber Duck. You got a copy on me, Pigpen? C’mon.” This jumble of words is the first line of the song “Convoy,” a #1 country hit from 1976 that tells an action-packed story from the perspective of a truck driver. Songwriters Chip Davis and Bill Fries filled “Convoy” with banter and lingo based on communications they heard between trucker drivers on CB radio during the 1973 oil crisis.
The epic orchestration and colorful and quotable lyrics made “Convoy” an unlikely hit - but the song actually tapped into a long history of country music that put the spotlight on the solitary lives of long-haul truck drivers. In the video above, Estelle Caswell breaks down the golden era of trucker country with country and folk music scholars Travis Stimeling and Nate Gibson.

I never thought this would be a topic of any video, but thank you so much for posting it! It is definitely bringing back a part of my childhood. Truck drivers were like gods for me and my two brothers. We would be in the back window of my dad’s car pumping our fist up and down begging the driver to blow his horn! We’d do that on field trips, too.
I remember that a lot of people we knew - none of them truck drivers - got CBs after these songs came out. So many good memories!

My dad was a trucker from about 1970 to 84 or 85, from ice roads in Northern Ontario to the deserts of Utah. We'll, that is until he got caught bootlegging cheap American liquor into Northern Ontario logging camps and was barred from entering the US lol. A true outlaw trucker and still as tough and stubborn as he was when Convoy was all over the air waves.

As a traveler who has been to 48 states for fun, trucker songs are the soundtrack of my life, even though I ain't on the job and don't drive a truck. As noted, before it was about train hopping. Country music is a story genre. It goes beyond the cliche of love songs. It talks of drifters, travelers, the pain and joy of a nomadic lifestyle. Americana in its truest form

MALAY SUBTITLES Part 2 of 3
    04:56
"Bandar asal saya akan kelihatan. Jika anda fikir saya gembira, anda benar"
    05:02
    05:24
"Six Days on The Road" naik ke tangga ke-2 di tangga lagu negara
    05:27
tepat di samping klasik Johnny Cash, "Ring of Fire"
    05:30
"Saya jatuh ke dalam cincin api ..."
    05:33
dan Buck Owens "Bertindak Semula Jadi"
    05:35
"Kemudian saya akan tahu bahawa anda akan melihat ..."
    05:38
    07:00
    Mereka memanggilnya Sirop Sopper
    07:02
    07:13
    dan dia telah kehilangan jejaknya.
    07:15
Itulah jalan cerita mengenai trucker besar pertamanya, "Giddy Up Go."
    07:18
    08:26
Ayah saya mempunyai pegangan.
    08:35
Dalam buku ini, "The Big Dummies Guide to CB Radio," penulis menerangkan bahawa trak digunakan
    08:39
    09:30
Kekurangan minyak yang dihasilkan mempengaruhi hampir
    09:31
setiap aspek kehidupan orang Amerika, tetapi pemandu trak benar-benar dipukul dengan teruk.
    09:36
Nixon menandatangani undang-undang persekutuan yang menurunkan semua had kelajuan lebuh raya nasional kepada 55 mph.

Growing up in Omaha in the 70s, C.W. McCall was a *big deal*. The character was originally the "spokesman" for a local bakery, Old Home, and the ads were little stories about The Old Home Fillerup And Keep On Truckin' Cafe. He was always trying to get to Pisgah, Iowa... A few years later, my dad shared a hospital room with Chip Davis and you would have thought dad had just gone to the moon by the reactions of his friends. Oh, and yes, dad had a CB handle- "Classified," from a C.W. McCall song about a guy who buys a sketchy pickup from a sketchy farmer. (Which my dad did, of course.)

It’s so cool to see this. My grandpa was a trucker for 54 years and started driving in 1960 and retired in 2014 to health issues. He drove till the last day. I grew up being around trucking and all the old timers from that era in 60s and 70s and listened to those trucker song with my grandpa going up and down the highways in the upper Midwest (mainly Minnesota and Wisconsin). He told me all his stories from those years gone by and I think about him and the memories I have of him everyday. I think the one thing in the trucking industry today that is a problem is that there’s not a many of the old time truckers like my grandpa left. I love the songs and movies from that time. Awesome documentary on this topic. Keep that big truck between the lines and out of ditch 10-4

Me and my group of other trucker friends on Discord will sometimes just sit around all night driving, and if we're lucky someone's home, shut down for the night or stuck in a dock and they'll set us up a playlist on the music bot of all of these songs. Most of us are under 30 and not even into country music (except me I grew up on it) but whether its our guy from Montreal QC, our guy from Hesperia CA, or our guy from Amana IA, we all know every one of these songs and will listen to them when we need a pick me up.

Awesome love Chip when I was living in Omaha I worked with him all the time at the Omaha Zoo when ever they were performing there.
