Im no mechanic but since ive gotten married n now a son, I really cannot afford to have my car brought to a mod shop just like before n so your videos are very helpful n clear n I can really feel like I can tackle like the changing the alternator of my 02 lancer! And i really did! Thank you n keep on making your videos for the weekend mechanics!
You're obviously not a professional mechanic, I love this video! I'm glad you posted this video it made me understand the tachometer better. This had a great video quality and your instalation was successful!
This was a really cool video. I would totally try this with my 99 Mirage, but I simply don't need a tach. I know how to shift with my ears, not with my eyes :)
Another way to go about it if you want a lower profile look while maintaining functionality is to simply use a shift light, and mount it in the hole the wires were run through inside the cab on this video. The shift light is really a small device when you take it out of the shell. MCM has a good vid on that as well. Great video though!
For the lowest profile it's better just to buy a whole gauge cluster from another year/trim of car with a tachometer already on it and wire it up. Probably harder, if the harnesses don't plug and play with eachother nicely, you could have a lot of wires to cut and splice.
Hi, looks like on Mirages it's harder than this (looking at the wiring diagram,) but most cars to install a tachometer you don't have to put it to a wire on the distributor and drill the hole through the firewall, etc. On my 86 Civic I put a tach on and it had a wire in the harness going to the speedometer/gauges, and I just spliced that wire and I was done. So usually if the car has a trim level where it came with a tach (my Civic was the lowest trim level,) then a wire for a tachometer signal will be in the harness somewhere, and no need to run it from the distributor. Looks nice, though, your tach. I bought a cheaper little 2" one for my car, and didn't get a big one like that. Now I kinda wish I got the big one with the light and stuff, would be more fun.
GilBatesLovesyou Nice! Yeah, kinda tricky for the Mirage. Big ones are great, really cool and fun to look at. The only downside to this gauge is that the needle doesn't have light it at night, so it's little hard to see where it's at. cheers
The DarkDragonWing You do realize your transmission is NOT a typical late model TCU equipped version? Your ECM controls some facets of your transmission (overdrive lock up) but you have a standard 4 speed hydraulic transmission. this means gears 1-3 are not controlled by anything but the hydraulic valve body. and 4th gear (Overdrive) is controlled by a lock up torque converter. Stop spreading bad information.
Bobby D Do you realize that when I say computer or ECU, I generalize it for others. Can you see he is a kid? Speaking of deep details, if he wants to know more, I can break it down for him. Obviously I don't know as much as you do. I want to learn more about the auto transmissions, the one with ECM and TCU. Can you explain them a little bit more? Make a video about them would be awesome. I'll be awesome to learn the right information from the right person.
I'm not gonna go with this tach. Not because of the installer - It was the quality of the tach itself. Clearly the needle is lagging and the needle light burned out almost immediately. But I appreciate this post very much. I saw everything that I needed to see - also a nice clean install by you.
Clean install mate! nothing to say about that but as an car electrician those connections made me gringe alot, if its in a place you cant solder atleast use some kind of an connector, vibration isnt too good for twist and tape!
hey i don't know you still reply or not but i wanna ask some question, I use 1jzgte with igniter module , so for tach signal what is your recommend "igf" or "ig-" from the module. thanks
The Tachometer seems lagging behind the sound of the motor like there is a delay. It could be the tach signal is being dampened to smooth the needle but you lose accuracy. Otherwise very helpful video. Thank you.
Good work, I would have preferred to see you put some solder on your wiring connections. For something not critical like this it's probably not super important.
I cant wait to install this on my 99 prelude. I love my auto prelude. Does anyone else like hondas? I added a few extra horsepower my adding cold air induction on the beast. Fastest thing in my school. I once raced the sex ed teacher. I guarantee I was the first one to finish. Another time, I raced the groundskeeper and one agaisnt his honda crx that was lowered and had a great exhaust on it . I just turned 40 and want to win some more races. I havent lost one yet. I am about to install a boost gauge for when I finally get a turbo. Ive always wanted to go to a honda car meet, but they say I am not cool enough. I think my prelude is cool. Who else like honda?
Hahaha! this comment made my day.. I had to relook at the video and you're right.. This guy is not only a tool with wiring but also an idiot... That feel when he floors it and yells at the gearbox for not shifting at red light.
+Pawnee Parrish Yes, on 1.8 engine use the black/yellow on the ignition coil. Does your engine look like my Mirage's engine in this video. Or does it look like my Lancer's engine here: th-cam.com/video/PhBxvWhBlRg/w-d-xo.htmlm29s?
My Mitsubishi lancer GLXi 2001 petrol. Model its Speedometer is not working please help me am from India its RPM meter is working but speedometer its pointer is in the last point please help me
hey man thank you, i love your videos. is it also possible get a cluster with rpm and install it? i have a mirage 1997 1.5 manual but my cluster doesnt have rpm. im thinking in a cluster form a 1999 mirage that does have rpm. thank you very much and keep doing it.
Hey Mackey , I'm also trying to install this gauge into my 2004 Honda Civic, only problem is I can seem to find a way to install without the wires all exposed looking all ghetto. If u can help me that would be very much appreciated.

No problem! For automatic, set the RPM shift light at 6000, it is when it changes gear when you floor it. For manual, you can set it anywhere you want.
Sorry but manual shift is the only shift! I don't know of people can drive with change the gears manually or use the clutch. By the way, continue for this way, you're really good. Bye! ! :) !

Very nice. I don't know if i am brave enough to splice into wires yet but you made that look great.
Nice informative video. I like how your not scared to tackle jobs like this.
Just ordered one tonight.. good review.. 200dollar product especially with a resistor added in line..
I found your tutos very helpfull, please keep up the good work im twitching my car learning from your videos.

Thanks, cheers
damn how could people hate this guy
good prep and nice editing....like the measurements..liked
Hey, i like your tachometer, its the same that i buy with, i used it in my R32 and it Worked!
The different colors are cool
Now I know it. Thanks.
You are the man.
Hooked mine up yesterday. Everything was fine now the big orange shift light won’t come on. Did u have any trouble with urs like that.
No problem like that.
@@DarkDragonWing all the other lights work just the shift light doesn’t work . I will check my connections morrow. Thanks
That’s cool man. I just bought the same tack. I am gon hook up mine in my truck morrow. Thanks for video. Very helpful. 🤘

B Rizzo RPM drops when the car changes to a higher gear. Higher gear requires more power to make the car run.
The DarkDragonWing Yeah i know but you drive an automatic car right? so how does the car know when to change gears?
B Rizzo There is a computer inside the car that will change gear when the car reaches 6000 RPM.
The DarkDragonWing

I wouldn't have put it on an automatic transmission car but that's just me. good job and keep up the good work.
Thanks. I don't know about others, but I enjoy watching the RPM needle when I rev the engine. cheers
Had that same car in dark metallic blue color too
I'm not gonna go with this tach. Not because of the installer - It was the quality of the tach itself. Clearly the needle is lagging and the needle light burned out almost immediately. But I appreciate this post very much. I saw everything that I needed to see - also a nice clean install by you.

OK and I noticed on the video you connected both the red n black wire to the distributor?
+Pawnee Parrish One wire only to the distributor.
Very good job young man
Nice work dude keep it up!
Congratulations on your videos! They help much . Brazil thanks !!!
Great video very informative and clean set up, thanks and happy new year
hey i don't know you still reply or not but i wanna ask some question, I use 1jzgte with igniter module , so for tach signal what is your recommend "igf" or "ig-" from the module. thanks
OK I'll double check the wiring
Awsome work bud might mount me a dinner plate on my auto lada
The Tachometer seems lagging behind the sound of the motor like there is a delay. It could be the tach signal is being dampened to smooth the needle but you lose accuracy.
Otherwise very helpful video. Thank you.
You are a Genius!
Andrewhp02 more like a ricer.
+roturd how is that a ricer modification? your just a fuck wit
Good work, I would have preferred to see you put some solder on your wiring connections. For something not critical like this it's probably not super important.
Yes, soldering is very good, but it takes time. Raw connecting is okay I think as long as it work and stuff like that. CHeers
Job well done!
do you have some type of turbo or supercharger on there?
+Pawnee Parrish No, this car is stock.
+The DarkDragonWing OK is that the muffler that makes that sound
+Pawnee Parrish Yess
Nice of you!smart boy!
OK when I hook up the wire does it have to be towards the COnnection end or anywhere on the wire?
+Pawnee Parrish It can be any where on the wire.
hey when you changed the rpm on the guage does that actually change the timing of the shift for the car?
+Pawnee Parrish Oh no, it won't change the timing of shifting of the car.
Nice install dude ! 👌 😀
Dude you've automatick :-) RPM and shift light lamp is reasonable with manual. Other hand is great job to show how to install all staff. Take care!

Can the light stay selected on one color of your choosing after turning the car off or does it reset every time?

I like to see your videos
I have a 97 mirage and I'm loving this series.
I was wondering if you could elaborate a little more on the shifting modes you talked about.
Thank you!
No problem! For automatic, set the RPM shift light at 6000, it is when it changes gear when you floor it. For manual, you can set it anywhere you want.
Oh okay, so the two different shifting modes on the auto depend on how much gas you're giving it?
Thanks for the quick reply!
No problem. Yes, that is correct.
dude you should upload some dyno runs of this car, i seriously want to see how much hp its pushing!.
only 95hp

Hello, In Mitsubishi mirage Technica 2Door 1.8L the cables is similar are this video or change depending of model the cars?
+WHITE NIGHT THE Prince of Melodic Not similar. For your car, the tach wire should be a yellow/black wire at the coil.
i assume that RPm gauge is for cars who dont have 1 built in right? (new to all this modding stuff)
)
Yes. Or if you really want one (personal preference)
they also use them for drag racing to know exactly when to shift without having to look down.
Sorry but manual shift is the only shift!
I don't know of people can drive with change the gears manually or use the clutch.
By the way, continue for this way, you're really good.
