Carp Fishing v Match Fishing: Rob Hughes v Andy May Fish-Off at Drayton Reservoir

  • in 2019 we decided to put one of the UK's top carp anglers (Rob Hughes) up against one of the UK's top match anglers (Andy May) on a popular day-ticket runs water (Drayton). The aim was to settle one of angling's most age old arguments of whether a match approach would beat big carp style tactics. Andy May uses the Pellet Waggler while Rob concentrates his efforts on zig fishing. Who's your money on to win? Watch the video and find out...

    Great video lads! I must admit, I actually love fishing both of these tactics. All depends on your mood really. I feel more confident in carp fishing then I do in match though but theres nothing better than fighting a double figure fish on lite tackle :)

    A great video from Andy and Rob, great camaraderie as usual and plenty of fish, Drayton has changed since I was there it used to be a rough track and rocks on the dam wall, a big improvement 👍👍

    Lovely video guys. Very interesting seeing the different approaches between match and carp Angling.
    However both styles catch fish and take the best parts from each other.

    Great video guys. As a Carp angler I have over the last couple of years used a method feeder and been very successful with it. I have caught some decent fish up to 20lb that I would have not caught using traditional carp tactics when switching to a method feeder. I have even used PVA and method feeder at the same time and the method feeder has on many occasions been more successful.

      Lots of carpers including some in our ranks have started using some of our match baits and ideas and tactics from the match world. Match guys meanwhile have taken lots of specimen carp ideas onboard over recent years. All food for thought. we can all learn from each other.

    Absolutely brilliant, I've just come across this video and I loved it. Two top blokes and anglers who know what there doing in there respective professions. I actually do both styles of fishing and I love them both. And when you think about it there not actually that different!! 🤔 For example when I go carp fishing for 4 or 5 days at a time, My preferred method is solid bags, which is not a lot different from when I go feeder fishing and use a feeder rig!! 🤔 Also when I'm using a zig rig its not actually that much different then when I use a waggler etc, etc Anyway for me both types of fishing are great and very enjoyable and I believe that is the main thing 🙂 For me it is not a competition!!, Which ever one you prefer, do it, and if you enjoy it than that is the main thing. 👌👍👊 tight lines and be lucky 😉

    There is one point I as an german carpangler always wanted to ask.
    How come that there´s obviously a whole industry. Doing a whole range of stuff considering carpcare.
    There´s even an- let´s call it "ethics" of not showing braces.
    And than there´s matchfishing. (double figure fish are thrown into keepnets. Thrown into weight.. sacks? Released in masses)
    The vid is not showing this.It´s just what came about in my head. After watching Andy and others do matches.
    Don´t get me wrong! Love the man. Learned a lot of stuff from him.
    Understand me please.
    I´m not against it.
    Just clueless.
    Apart from that: not a wellmade Vid.
    Even when in a budget.
    You both. Could do better than this.

    • @kingfisher7687
      @kingfisher7687 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Double figure fish are not ‘thrown’ into keepnets during a match. They are unhooked in the landing net and lowered into the keepnet. Stop talking stupid

    • @billythebootlegger.4376
      @billythebootlegger.4376 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      And that's the problem with match fishing..... keepnets ! I dont care if they're unhooked in the net and "lowered in" .... I fished this shit hole once and what I saw made me sick. No respect for the catch at all.

    • @Charmoffalling
      @Charmoffalling 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@kingfisher7687 Ok. I maybe did exaggerate it. But just to make clear.
      So.
      They all are treated well.
      I give you that.
      But this was not the point.
      Where is the difference between a 15 lbs carp caught in a syndicate (unhooking mat) or in a match (keepnet)?
      I mean... creaturewise (don't even know if this is a word)
      Hoping I made it more cleary.
      And.. I just asked and are willing to learn.
      Greetings from the continent
