I was actually pretty disappointing when I found out how difficult it was to light my pipe when I bought my first zippo. After looking into it I then realized there was a pipe-specific insert. Iv heard you can send your zippo to the manufacture and get the inserts swapped for little or no fee. But eventually Ill probably just buy one of the pipe models. Would be nice to have a back up zippo anyway. A very good video though! Watching it made me flick mine out just to play around with it again :]
my parents got me my first zippo when I was around that age. I just thought they were so badass. Nothing negative ever came of it, and it was fun to play with. If anything, it got me more comfortable with improving my manual dexterity. Now I'm in dental school and using my fingers every day, constantly playing with stuff in my hands definitely helped!
Don't want to taste the fuel? don't draw so hard. That's it. That's the "secret". Draw lightly and it won't pull excess fuel vapour into the air, and you won't taste it.
yes the biggest complaint about zippos by far is the fuel evaporating, good tip for that is a thick rubber band to cover the gap between the lid and base for storage longer term so it wont evaporate
I actually use one of these to light my pipes. While I do taste/smell the fluid during the initial light up, it goes away as soon as you pull the flame away. I can see where it would bother some people, but I can live with it.
jeff is fucking awesome he shares his life with us he actually takes the time to reply to comments and even replys to his messages my favorite youtuber by far
I got a Zippo about a year ago on a whim and found you when I was looking up some Zippo tricks. Since I found your channel I've bought a decent handful of Zippos (and got an old slim from my father that he used while in the Navy in the 70s, really cool) and somewhere along the line got into knives too, so now I have a handful of those too. I'm sure my wife thanks you for making me spend so much money lol. Anyway keep doing what you're doing man.
if its smokes alot it more than likely means your wick needs to be changed or theres not enough fluid so your wqick is lighting on fire dry and its burning as apposed to the fuel vapors from it
I really like my pipe zippo even if I just got it today but after a few bowls I've found that there is a slight fuel taste but that generally goes after 10 puffs so I don't worry about it, but the biggest problem with it is it's a bit difficult to light the bottom of a deep bowl pipe.
good point, when lighting any form of smokeable substances, butane/lighter fluid does not ruin the taste or is bad for health or anything. But i have to say nothing is better than rolling up a spiff, striking a match and lighting it up. It's just a feeling no other kind of flame can give. Same goes for cigarettes and cigars but i try to cut down on tobacco smoking :D
+Randywolf244 you are a young kid and you dont smoke, we can see this from your channel and subscriptions, i dont act like an Adult (being fifteen) but i do collect zippos, you react like this to a joke made by a fellow viewer it clearly shows you are immature and probably less mature than this guy that made the fucking joke...
I say yes, sounds great, if he really wont ever use the regular insert, look online on ebay or amazon for an old ziplight insert, he can still do some tricks, its a flashlight insert...when he wishes to do tricks that involve lighting it, you cna swap it out with the regular insert and be around the house for that for safety...and he can have the light one in everywhere he goes...accept maybe school
I'm the proud owner of one of these, just today. It's also my very first Zippo EVAH so with me luck on the very long road to collecting lighters and pipes. Damn, Jeff. You have ruined me and I am totally okay with it...
Not at all. While I enjoy many blends of Latakia and aromatics, it's about collecting beautiful pipes. I wish to, one day, have as many pipes as I could ever want.
I have a Zippo pipe lighter and want to love it, but it seems to always light the spark wheel on fire too. Is this something perhaps as a result of not putting the lighter fluid in correctly? Thanks for any suggestions on avoiding this.
My Zippo Pipe Lighter, is brass, the top woolen a little, and it did from the beginning, but it didn't break yet, its just I wish it didn't wobble, but Cest La Vie.
for me, usualy no lanyard, just gets in the way, only time Ill use one is if the knife is loose in the pocket and Ill ahve the lanyard hanging outside the pocket for quick acess...
I didn't even know these were a thing until a few days ago. I've been using my regular zippos to light my pipes with no problem. I just turn the pipe sideways instead of the lighter. I wanna try a pipe Zippo though.
Okay, but I found a better solution for me: get a Thunderbird insert. They even make a pipe-lighting version, which I have. I love mine, because I get a nice-looking Zippo case, with no fuel leakage from the butane system, and it still produces a very 'soft' flame, WITH a traditional flint striker lighting system. Win-Win.
It will. Over time, it will scorch the rim, as will a Bic -- provided that you are smoking a briar pipe. All pipes I've ever owned had or have scorched rims, it never bothered me. When you polish your pipe, you can barely see a difference, either, the scorched part will be just as shiny as the rest.
Jeff is my favorite youtuber too! He's the only one that I get on daily to watch religiously! Haha I don't care what his videos are about I just want to catch up with my ol pal haha
Believe it or not, they will give you a pipe lighter insert. If you send in a zippo regardless of needing repair or not and request a pipe lighter insert they will swap it out and send it back.
for me, usualy no lanyard, just gets in the way, only time Ill use one ius iof the knife is loose in the pocket and Ill ahve the lanyard hanging outside the pocket for quick acess...
While the pipe insert works pretty well and doesn't really change the taste of my jazz cabbage; I still find that Naphtha feels harsher on the throat than either butane or electric arc lighters. Zippo now makes an insert of each type, and while the butane torch one is decent the arc lighter is useless for pipe smokers. You can find random no name Chinese electric arc lighters that work well with pipes, but it's a total crapshoot in terms of quality and whether it will fit into your pipe.
they were thrown out with tons of other stuff from a movie unit becasue my grandmother couldnt afford to keep paying for the unit, it wasnt like the shows where they auctioned it off, back then they just threw out everythgin when peopel didnt pay after goign through and taking what they wanted
Hi Jeff, I'm 16 and love to collect knives.my collection is small but its all quality stuff. I don't have a lot of time because of school and sports so i cant have a job at the moment so moneys tight. what are some good quality, affordable edc knives?
I got this lighter as part of a gift set my wife got me that included a Petersen 303 Pipe. I never really used the Zippo because it's much easier to use a standard Bic lighter. You have to draw much harder using a Zippo or a match. I have a ton of pipes. Savinelli is my favorite brand for pipes. Meershaum pipes are really awesome, too. Do you have any Meershaums?
also, he might take it apart to see how it's really just a few simple items combined to make a system. Tinkering with anything you find interesting is great for young people... something that should always be promoted,
*You wouldn't want to use a Zippo for a pipe or a cigar unless you don't draw while the flame is near the pipe. Even when I light a cigarette with a Zippo I don't breathe in the draw, but a cigar or a pipe ? For me a cigar is a ritual, you don't mess with the tobacco with naphta. It doesn't ruin the tobacco's flavor, it just adds naphta flavor to the first draws.* BUT, the pleasure of using a nice lighter to light your cigar/pipe is part of the ritual. So a Zippo is somewhat a benefit in that sense, unless you have a nice, metal lighter that uses butane. For me, keeping quality matches made for cigars around my cigars is part of the ritual. Anyone will tell you a match is the best thing for a cigar or a pipe. The wood will only add a slight pleasant aroma to the first draws. Its also much more relaxing to use a match, it feels more natural.
Adrien Perié I've always used matches with my pipe; that way I feel like I enjoy my pipe as it was meant to be enjoyed. But, my God-given luck dictates that whenever I wish to smoke my pipe it has be a very windy day. Although I always look forward to this manly ritual, I always have to struggle at least through the false-light and lighting process. So I risked it and bought a Zippo pipe lighter from Amazon, the same one as presented here, and honestly I didn't taste any butane in the smoke. To be sure, I tried a completely new blend, tried it with matches and the Zippo, and still nothing. Maybe I'm wrong and there is a strong difference in taste as you claim, but to me, a Zippo really makes pipe smoking truly relaxing.
I have a Zippo Pipe Lighter as well as a Butane Lighter and have experience no difference between the tastes of the tobacco. You may experience a higher consumption of lighter fluid with a Zippo Pipe Lighter, because it takes longer to light a pipe than it does a cigarette.
Oskar Mora I don't see why not, some people I've talked to say that they taste the fluid when they smoke weed with zippos but I've never experienced that. I use a standard zippo to smoke my bong bowls regularly
don't expect the pipe design to stay on there, I've had mine for just about a year and it's completely gone. and I lost my top piece, don't know why it's removable just seems dumb it's a pipe lighter.
Love my Zippos. You should have lit it. Also if you have a regular zippo and want to covert it over. Send it in to zippo the will put the pipe insert in it for you
I think it's crazy when people say you can taste it, it will burn off for goodness sakes, its not like your marinating your tobacco in it when your lighting it.
I'd still be concerned about imparting flavor since you're tipping the zippo over to light. I know you can work with it but its just another variable If you're looking for a high value butane pipe lighter I'd recommend the HONEST brand pipe lighter off of DealXtreme. For about $10 I got two of them; they don't hold a lot of butane so I carry both incase I run out. They don't come with instructions so look up how to properly fill a lighter.
Your the dumbass copy and pasting definitions from a dictionary. The means of words aren't defined by just what's written in there you fucking idiot. Everybody knows what a review is
You may as well give it to him. Otherwise he'll buy it anyway or worse, shoplift one. Then you can impart that there will be consequences if he misuses it too.
Ok good for weed smokin for bowl or bong but again back to the taste I don’t prefer to smoke weed with a Petrol lighter I orefer pressure butane lighters for that but good video Jeff love ya buddy
That whole time without showing it working Jeff!
I drilled out the holes in my Zippo, about 30 years ago to make my own pipe lighter....Still works today....
What size drill bit should I use
@@jacobmesser2624 A Dremel works real good
I was actually pretty disappointing when I found out how difficult it was to light my pipe when I bought my first zippo. After looking into it I then realized there was a pipe-specific insert. Waiting 1-2 seconds before using the flame helps too
Yeah just keep it lit till the smell goes away
Anyone else love Jeff's unintentional pun of "whatever the case may be"
hehehehe.... wordplay.
10 years later, still great.
Would be a great review...if it showed the pipe being used.
yes the biggest complaint about zippos by far is the fuel evaporating, good tip for that is a thick rubber band to cover the gap between the lid and base for storage longer term so it wont evaporate
Hello,
I was looking for a good lighter pipe.
Now, the choice is obvious.
Thank you.
David Madejski (Poland)
I actually use one of these to light my pipes. While I do taste/smell the fluid during the initial light up, it goes away as soon as you pull the flame away. I can see where it would bother some people, but I can live with it.

I've had my zippo pipe lighter for many years. they're durable, but the fluid evaporates like crazy.
A lighter review where you never light it is like a flashlight review where you never turn it on lol
if its smokes alot it more than likely means your wick needs to be changed or theres not enough fluid so your wqick is lighting on fire dry and its burning as apposed to the fuel vapors from it
It was my first zippo. Got it 1996. love pipe smoking. Made in the USA and lifetime warranty. Think I am on my 4th guts of it ;)
I really like my pipe zippo even if I just got it today but after a few bowls I've found that there is a slight fuel taste but that generally goes after 10 puffs so I don't worry about it, but the biggest problem with it is it's a bit difficult to light the bottom of a deep bowl pipe.

What a coincidence, I recently got one of these too (in matte black). Before watching this, I didn't even know you could remove the cap, thanks!
i just got one and it works great for me. i don't feel the "fuel taste", not a problem for me. a great lighter, i recommend it :)

I use a Zippo with pipe lighter insert for lighting all my pipes and cigars with no detectable taste or smell. A thumbs up from me
Can you light crack pipes with these
You can but a zippo blue would make your life a lot easier
Let me guess you own a fedora and have a small amount of aspergers too, right? *****

+Randywolf244 although i do smoke cigars
Randywolf244 in what fucking century? Jesus...
Just picked up the 1935 replica brushed with the dual torch insert. I don't smoke, but thought it'd be a good idea to carry a lighter
omg jeff thank you for putting up a zippo review... i love all this stuff this is what i subbed for originally and grew to love the rest... thanks
I say yes, sounds great, if he really wont ever use the regular insert, look online on ebay or amazon for an old ziplight insert, he can still do some tricks, its a flashlight insert...when he wishes to do tricks that involve lighting it, you cna swap it out with the regular insert and be around the house for that for safety...and he can have the light one in everywhere he goes...accept maybe school

yes Ill do a video on armor zippos too sometime, but an armor zippo just has a thicker case outside diametere all inserts work in them
My Zippo Pipe Lighter, is brass, the top woolen a little, and it did from the beginning, but it didn't break yet, its just I wish it didn't wobble, but Cest La Vie.

really neat Jeff o got to ask on your knife lanyard or no lanyard
Are Zippo Pipe Lighters windproof like normal Zippo?
lol, yes fire still burns everything it touches...
Will the regular zippo insert work for pipes too?

Thanks Jeff, didn't know they made that one. I enjoy a pipe a few times a month.
Hey Jeff, if you get the chance check out the vintage Nimrod brand pipe lighters. They're pretty sweet.
Amen brother…it’s my favorite 👍🏻
This would be great for candles too
I never got one because it has less windproofing, but it is a pretty good deal if you get it with the case.
What is this lighter less windproof than?
Jeff is my favorite youtuber too! He's the only one that I get on daily to watch religiously! Haha I don't care what his videos are about I just want to catch up with my ol pal haha
Love the review dude. Buying one for my dad this christmas.
You can also send your standard Zippo to the repairs department tell them you want a pipe insert and they will do that for free.
It's not advised to use a butane lighter for pipes. The flame is too hot and can damage the pipe. You want a soft flame for pipes.
is it difficult to light the tobacco when you get to the bottom of the bowl?
While the pipe insert works pretty well and doesn't really change the taste of my jazz cabbage; I still find that Naphtha feels harsher on the throat than either butane or electric arc lighters. "Ting" I love that sound..

I heard somewhere that if you dont want the lighter fluid taste in your tobacco, you can use alcohol.
also, he might take it apart to see how it's really just a few simple items combined to make a system. Tinkering with anything you find interesting is great for young people... something that should always be promoted,
Hello can yo switch inserts between a regular and pipe ?
i have one of those, but i don't use it for tobacco pipes if you know what i mean
I want the Blu2 to come back, common Zippo just call it something else and we'll be done with it.
i love zippo videos
Yeah, I get a very foul taste from lighter fluid used in Zippos. Some say the Black cans were an improvement, but nay in my experience.
Jeff, are the inserts interchangeable with the armor zippos?
Does this work with weed pipes.

yeah and if you have good weed you shouldn't taste the fuel
Works great 👍✊🏼
Thanks. I am a match guy. Hi Gus are you still around. Long time no see??????
I find these work great in windy conditions
Well they're aren't called windproof for nothing

so what happened to your grandfathers pipes?? if you don't mind me asking

i have the exact model, personally the tobacco tastes better with zippo
Got my Zippo repaired 6 days ago I want it baaaack alreadyyy 😭
does this work with crack pipes too?
Yay I love zippo videos!

Hey Jeff can you do a demo of how it works while smoking a pipe
How bout u light it...what a waste of time
WOOF NATION Which is why he should light it
Yea dumbass. It's like reviewing a car but never driving it

No you stop replying. You had no rebuttal so that's all u could say smh

I smoke cigarettes and I love my Zippo pipe lighter more than any others I seem to have more control over the flame and that’s always a positive
