Dallas Willard is very inspiring writer and speaker, I hope more of his book and speaking contents can be translated to Chinese. I watched his full twelve lectures in Divine Conspiracy on TH-cam, highly recommended.

We're interested in this as well. If I'm correct, his five main books have been translated. But there is more that can be done with subtitles on videos. It would be great to find someone who would fund this . . .

I have been profoundly changed in my inner being due to God's grace of putting Dallas Willard books in my life! I began with the divine conspiracy which led to living in Christ's presence and life without lack and hearing God, restoration of the heart and now the spirit of the disciplnes. His relaying The Kingdom Among us and the metaphysical reality has changed everything for me! I have listened to the divine conspiracy series on TH-cam. I am so overwhelmed in my new relationship with the Trinitarian presence that God has furthered my journey of discipleship into the School of Kingdom Living. HE IS SO FAITHFUL AND WORTHY TO BE PRAISED! And by that, I mean God, not Dallas!😂

Great recommendation on getting audio. Very much agree. My recommendation is the audible (or cd) of "Living in Christ's Presence". It's conference audio, including interaction with Ortberg. You really hear his heart - done late in life. And I feel that it puts his ideas in a more accessible place. Thanks for this video.

At conversation.org there is a series that was by DW for the Denver cohort. What is interesting about this one is there is a written transcript. Very helpful.

Great job, Mike. I agree. I highly recommend reading the biography "Becoming Dallas Willard: The Formation of a Philosopher, Teacher, and Christ Follower," by Gary W. Moon. Moon is an excellent author, and was the ideal person to write the biography. After reading the bio, I returned to Willard's books with a new appreciation and got even more from them. Another recommendation is "Preparing for Heaven: What Dallas Willard Taught Me About Living, Dying, and Eternal Life" by Gary Black. Black spent many hours with Dallas in his last few months on earth. From this book we learn more of Willard's thinking on a topic for when he had lots of notes, but little public teaching.

Hi David, Mike here. Thanks for the feedback. I was heavily involved in Gary's biography of Dallas and I was thrilled it could tell a story which very few people knew. I only wish it could have been bigger, but publishers get worried about long books. Maybe we can hope for a sequel! :)

Wow. Very cool - I’ve been looking over or working in Dallas’ teaching (actually physically stopped by the dwc at west mint this last year out of curiosity and even was by USC when I was down in LA :D)! Anyhow, God is good and think this is timely in going deeper.
I am curious and have been uncoupling some of the western or cultural influences in my evangelical upbringing.
There is a guy who talks about space everyday astronaut who talks about bringing space down to earth for everyday people. Thankful (especially seeing some gap between belief and life) to see God’s light down to earth for everyday people.
I’ve learned to be a better Christian and though had some tough patches am hopeful and thankful (pray for me) as I want by God’s grace to be a helper and light spiritually to those around me and trust God will do it!
V cool ! Will put these to use or pass along - God bless and Ty!!

I would agree that one should start with an audio series and one should be encouraged to persevere in listening even if they think his voice is less than ideal to hear. That will soon fade away if one can be convinced that persevering is very worth it.
I would recommend the Divine Conspiracy series available on youtube and conversatio. I would suspect that your audio recommendation is an even better place to start though.

Thank you Mike, this has been very helpful. I have read some of Dallas’ work but it is always good to look for new ways to continue to grow.
Regarding western spirituality, I read a good bit of ignatian spirituality authors. I enjoyed very much reading Margaret Günther in prayer and on listening.
I think to listen to Dallas talking about the Sermon on the mount must be something a lot of Christians should listen. His teaching on that will shake many. I am glad that when I was reading José A. Pagola SJ, his view it is the same as Dallas’.Phew!

This was my experience as well.
And i recommend it in that order as well.
However when we get back to his books, in one of the lectures he gave in the Q&A he was asked this question "which book should i read first" he said that he never intended to write any books but did so bcs he was asked by other people.
In ideal version, he said, they should have come out in this order 1. The Divine Conspiracy 2. Hearing God 3. The Spirit of The Disciplines

Loved the biography on Dallas Willard by Gary Moon. Loved "Fa;;ing for God " by Gary Moon. So many of the people discipled by Dallas have written great books that are great to follow -- James Bryan Smith, John Ortberg, Gary Black, etc. You are correct that the video selections on You Tube are easier to follow than his books but I like both mediums.

Diedre, It is amazing how many of us start "The Divine Conspiracy" then put it down after chapter two thinking, "Whew, this is not what I expected." Then we hit chapter 3 "The God Bathed World" and the light breaks open. Then we dive into Chapter 4 on the Beatitudes, then Chapters 5-7 on the Sermon on the Mount, and the words of Jesus come to life like we never knew possible but always sensed could be. Chapters 8 & 9 flow naturally to our life as disciples, apprentices Dallas likes to call us, then Chapter 9 making Apprentices. Chapter 10 is such a surprising, inspiring vision of what lies ahead and why God does what He does in His children to prepare us for all eternity. If only we can help more friends reach the first page of Chapter 3, the current will carry us forever…literally. I highly recommend people spend 10 years reading "The Divine Conspiracy"! Enjoy your journey.

A great book on discipleship is divine design for discipleship and it’s follow up book building with balance. These are by Chad Craig.
A great audio series is hearing god and I especially liked the Bill Heatley lectures because he really complimented Willard in that series.

Brilliant suggestion to start with the audio! I tried to start people in Spirit of the Disciplines, but I think audio or video is a better appetizer before chewing through a book. I like the video series The human side of holiness. Available on TH-cam. Your video was quite enchanting.

Great to hear you in English friend! Thanks for pointing us to the audios of Willard. I have read his books and really enjoyed them and look forward to listening to him in his element as a teacher and instructor. Answering your questions about books from Western spirituality which have influenced me the most I would say that the top of the list is the classic little book Practicing the Presence of God by Brother Lawrence. I have read this book more than any other and it revolutionized my approach to spirituality and life the very first time I read it. Followed closely with this is the book The Game with Minutes by Frank Laubauch and the book Contemplative Prayer by Thomas Merton. In more general terms the monastic tradition, both early and modern, has highly influenced my spirituality and I believe is something that we have lost in our modern Protestant traditions. Look forward to hearing more brother!!! Peace.

@@AlexandraNMorgan Husserl is not easy but it's impressive that you'll try. If you get bogged down, but still want to make a go at it, then look up some of Dallas's early writings on Husserl - many are freely available. Or look up a series called The Ontology of Knowledge on conversatio.org

I wholeheartedly agree with your suggestion on listening to DW first. There is a TH-cam series on the Divine Conspriacy (really it’s kind of a combo of DC and Renovation of the Heart). It’s long, but worth it. I think it helps me to listen to him and many others agree. His philosophy training taught him to to be very precise with his words and so there are very little wasted words in his written material. Therefore the ARE “dense” as you call them. There have been a couple hybrid books since his homegoing that are excellent and are seminars that have been translated to written word - Living in Christs Presence is the seminar that he and John Ortberg did right before his passing. It is excellent. I always think it is important to hear what the “final” thoughts, that which they think are most important. And then Life Without Lack is the translation of his seminar on Psalm 23 - which he loved - it is excellent also. God bless you in your efforts.

Dallas Willard Ministries youtube channel--check it out! Mike, you really hit the nail on the head regarding Dallas Willard. I became interested in his teachings shortly after his death in 2013. I've read almost all his books and watched a countless number of his lectures. I've also read many of the books/authors Dallas mentions in his books that had impacted his own faith; authors that cross boundries between protestantism and Catholicism. Dallas Willard has opened my eyes to a much deeper more wholistic faith walk and intimacy with the one true Triune God. Your insights regarding him are spot on. I'm in the USA, but I sure hope many in Europe will discover Dallas. Thanks!

The series featured in the video is this one: conversatio.org/media-room-series/a-series-on-what-jesus-believed-and-taught-and-lived/ In previous years it was called "The Kingdom of God Teaching Series". Dallas also did series called "Kingdom Living" so I'm not sure if I've understood which series you're after.
Living in Christ's Presence is unfortunately not available for free. But you can still buy the DVD with the videos done by IVP: www.ivpress.com/living-in-christ-s-presence-dvd
