What a great set! 😍 I have absolutely no memory of it existing, even though I recognise all the sets shown on the back of the instruction booklet. 🤣 I wonder if this marks the time when my interest shifted away from the rail sub-theme? 🤔 I would've been about 10 years' old when it came out.
The only thing about it that seems a bit odd is that the crane is supposed to drop the contents of the hoppers (I think that's what they were called) in the same space that the crane itself travelled in. Perhaps the designer ran out of time or money to come up with something better? You make a fair point about the lack of a ladder for the crane operator, especially as those grill/ladder pieces were widely used in the railway sets if I remember correctly.
I sometimes snapped the "tubes" from out of the thin transparent bricks! As a child I never understood why they were there, and they felt like they were in the way when the bricks were supposed to be "clear". Interesting that Lego obviously had some similar thoughts! 😀
Well done on your find, and thanks for the video. 😀

It's fascinating how our interests can shift over time! The design choices in sets can definitely spark some interesting conversations. Thanks for sharing your thoughts and watching the video!

    Great retro-review!
altough 12v isn't my cup of tea, this is a cool train set!
At the moment i'm looking for his successor in 9v line, set 4555, but it's always too expensive for me...
Instead, recently I've bought the Post Office (6362) and the Home (6372) and were two bargains (50€ for both sets, with boxes and manuals... Post Office have a second mailman, too!)... it's all your fault! You're lika a pusher xD xD xD

I have the 720 basic building set that had a couple of those sliding doors in white. I rarely used them in any of my custom builds though. Not sure why in that color it wasn't used in more official sets, I would have thought it would have been a more common part but that could be my bias due to already having them in my parts collection.

Thank you for watching! These doors were first produced in 1983, the year this set came out. They still appear in 16 other sets in 6 different colors until even in 2013 there is still a set 7911 Constitution Train Chase. but that is then in Dark Bluish Gray. In the white color indeed also 720 basic building set and in 6337 Delivery Center, both from 1985. Only in three sets.
