Maybe tackling 'site reputation abuse' that's not as straightforward as an entire directory or subdomain (like what we saw with coupons and deals). There are plenty of sites with content from sponsors that's there to rank versus truly helping their users. I would think Google is going after that... We'll see soon enough. :)
What changes should sites affected by the September 2023 Helpful Content Update and March Core Update make so that the site can recover in the upcoming core update
There's no way to cover everything in a comment here, and those are two different types of updates. And the HCU(X) has been very very tough for site owners... as Google continues to refine how that works (esp. now that it's baked into core). I would make sure the content is high quality, written for users and NOT for Search, the user experience is great, there aren't super-aggressive ads all over the place, etc. It was the combination of unhelpful content AND poor UX that was problematic with the Sep HCU(X). And keep driving forward through the next broad core update. Google is working on that now... and they explained sites that have done enough to improve could possibly see recovery, or partial recovery with that update. I'm hopeful that's the case. Again, NONE have recovered yet... so the next core update should help there. We'll see. :)
