Very cool little bike. Just love those old Schwinn Sting Rays in their many configurations. Every kid in my neighborhood wanted a Schwinn Sting Ray 'back in the day'. Closest I came when I was a kid was my Mom bought me an AMF 'Renegade' for my birthday. It was a great bike I could pull wheelies with it no problem. I just picked up a Schwinn re-issue Classic Sting Ray 'just for fun' it's a great little bike to bop around town on although it's geared rather low..the front chainring is 38 tooth by my count it's very easy to pedal but certainly not a long distance bike due to the rapid pedal revolutions to get up to speed. So I'm thinking of getting a new rear wheel and 3-speed hub for it if that's possible, down the road just to make it a bit more long-legged for this adult rider.
Awesome man I love to hear everyone’s stories from back in the day, I’m sure that you could make a 3 speed work on one of the new stingrays but I doubt anything while just bolt right on and fit perfectly definitely probably would have to do some modifications, I’ve got a play list on my channel with all of my muscle bike and banana seat bike videos if your interested, thanks for watching buddy
I had a stingray as a child.. i was born in 1964.. i remember seeing kids with this bike.. some with huge long forks.. and some had real sterling wheels.. instead of handle bars
Man that’s very cool, the bikes with the steering wheel were made by Huffy and were called the Wheel, they made aftermarket forks back then were kids could turn there bikes into choppers or dragsters one was called the top fueler and it’s like 4 feet long I have one on my huffy sling shot, glad you dig it thanks for watching
Had a Purple 3 speed Stingray. White sparkle seat, sissy bar wasn't that high. Came with a knobby tire on the back but I changed it to a slick. Then everyone started getting 10 speeds...
It’s an original stingray but it has been customized but since this video i made the bike a bit more correct I’ve got a entire playlist with all my old bicycles on my channel if your interested
I have one that was my dad’s when he was a kid. It’s in poor shape and needs a full resto. Where did you order tires and what do I need to do to make it rideable? I need to restore all the chrome too
If you go on my channel under the muscle bike playlist I actually have a video on how to revive a vintage muscle bike and it covers a lot, I know having things re chromed can be pricey some time you can get an original part that’s in nice shape cheaper, try eBay or even market place, these old bikes are really hot right now so prices have gone up quite a bit in the last year, feel free to ask anymore questions
That’s awesome that you got an old Schwinn for your son I hope he really has fun with it at keeps the love for these old bikes going, it’s ok to not have the bike be perfect at first you can still ride it and have fun and fix it as you go like this bike for example since this video I’ve been slowly making it more correct more videos to come and thanks for watching
Hey man thanks for watching, I would be interested in a s-7 rear tire just let me know, right know I don't have any 5 speed schwinn stuff I also don't have a wheelie bar but I've always wanted one there just usually pretty pricey, more cool stuff on the way stay safe brother
It is a Schwinn wheel but it’s an s-7 and probably I’m guessing from the late 70s when I put this bike together that’s what I had so I just used it because I was working with a tight budget eventually the bikes going to get the correct s-2 wheel, the other day I took this bike on a 6 mile ride and it did just fine, thanks for watching
Very cool bike! I’m currently looking into buying a Original blue 1967 3 speed Schwinn Deluxe Stingray. I think you video just convinced me to buy it! 😉
That’s very cool man thanks for sharing, there should be another muscle bike ride and review on this bike out in the next few weeks, I’ve made a number of changes to it since this video, thanks for watching
They are original 1968 date code bars that I found on eBay, 63-65 stingrays had the real wide bars then 66-67 used a slightly narrower bar 68-69 used this style and then in 70 they went to the narrow bars for the remainder of production, thanks for watching
Hey man there definitely not easy to find I actually just got a tire to replace the one that’s on this bike and it took for ever to find a nice one that was reasonably priced, my advice is first see if your rim is a s-7 or a s-2, my wheel was a s-7 which are harder to find s-2 are more common and then just keep checking eBay just expect to pay $60-100 for a Schwinn slick
Hey thanks for checking out the video, glad you dig my Schwinn, I’ve made a few updates on it and should be putting another video up soon, right now I can’t really afford to take on any more bikes since I’m still trying to finish up a few other bikes but thanks for letting me know
Thanks Dave, this bikes not to bad it's a nice rider quality piece, it defanatly does take some time and money to put any old muscle bike together, it's got more expensive recently probably due to stuff getting harder to find, back in the ninteys stuff was still pretty easy to find and vary reasonable not so much any more thanks for watching buddy
I want my dad to get me won of these bike my dad colleges Raleigh choppers we have the grifter and the mark 2 chopper and he said If i wanna get a stingray bike i have to sell the mark 2 and grifter
Hey that’s awesome that your into old muscle bikes there definitely a lot of fun, I’ve got huffy, sears, Hawthorne’s, but Schwinns are definitely my favorite I just feel there the best quality combined with style, there definitely not cheap but if you could trade for a 68-72 5 Speed Krate I think that would be a good deal, there’s more muscle bike videos on the channel and more to come thanks for watching
Schwinn never made a Stingray with this configuration, with a springer fork and 3 speed shifter with a 3 speed coaster foot break, but I think it looks a lot cleaner without the hand breaks and break cables. I've thought about building a Stingray with this configuration, so it's really ironic that you came up with this accidentally by using spare parts. When you finally find a replace rear tire you should also use a heavy duty inner-tube, that will help preserve your tire.. BTW, here's the wing tip chain-guard you need on E-Bay, and it looks like the seller is accepting offers ~ www.ebay.com/itm/Schwinn-Deluxe-Stingray-Chain-Guard-20-For-Bicycles-And-Bike-G11/324116576526?hash=item4b76da790e:g:wKgAAOSwKNpefRed
Hey man thanks for all the advice, glad you dig my bike I'm planning on putting up more videos on it as I make more progress and I'm trying to finish up a few other bikes so more cool stuff on the way, I really enjoy riding this bike and I love the way the springer feels and rides not to mention looks awsome, thankyou for letting me know about the chaingaurd I did see it on eBay and I've just been on the fence with it because I really would like one were the graphics are a little more visible, glad you enjoyed the video and thankyou for watching
@@HansensSpeedShop If you do find a chain-guard that still has the original decal intact it definitely won't be cheap. You could buy that chain-guard and apply a new water slide replacement decal, then take some very fine wet sand paper to slightly distress the decal so that it has some effect of patina, or just leave it and let it patina naturally. BTW, you're correct, original tires are very expensive, but you could buy a replacement Stingray "style" knobby for about $35, and you can order a heavy duty Goodyear inner tube through Walmart. Is this the original size or is this a bigger model with custom parts.
It’s an original stingray but it has been customized but since this video i made the bike a bit more correct I’ve got a entire playlist with all my old bicycles on my channel if your interested

Nice barn find man. I had the red frame, padded sissy bar and no tread racing slick. Lots of fun. Can’t wait to see the final version.
I may have a set of the Schwinn S5 and S7 tires. Next time I am home I will check. I am looking for a 5 speed shifter and a Whamo wheelie bar
Hey man thanks for watching, I would be interested in a s-7 rear tire just let me know, right know I don't have any 5 speed schwinn stuff I also don't have a wheelie bar but I've always wanted one there just usually pretty pricey, more cool stuff on the way stay safe brother
I'm guessing the rear wheel is NOT off of a Stingray, but is a Schwinn wheel?

Question, the bike i'm working on has an older serial # EE33907 can you tell me why?
