    To all commenters. This bike is running as it should. It only had 22hp new as standard. So 80ish is going to be it. I was around when we all rode stuff like this and made a careful note of real (not imagined) top speeds, because that was a real obsession aged 18. I had an SB200 (78mph top speed) Tim had an RD200 (80 mph) Phil had a GT185 (76mph) and Dameon an X7 (90ish, but very unpleasant at that speed). A lad called Mark had a GT380 (92 mph, but major speed wobble). So, I think if you believe that your RD200 did 90, then you are really misremembering.

      I agree, I had one in 1988 and it maxed out just over 80 with standard pipes and running A1
      A deresticted 125 Lc was about the same speed I recall but their speedos where way out!!

    My Dad bought me my RD200 for my 18th birthday. 250 quid from Winsford Motorcycle Breakers. Someone had changed the logbook to say '125' for engine size and it had 125 stickers on the side covers so I rode it on L plates. The electric start (which never seemed to work) gave it away to anyone who knew these bikes. It had microns, would do 89 on the clock downhill. Holed a piston on the way to Coventry, got it rebored and it ran great again. Went over the bonnet of a Golf GTi and bent the front end. Got 500 quid from the insurance, fixed it for 200 and spent the rest on a new stereo. Loved that bike, it would power wheelie in first. Sold it for $300 to some scouser who smashed it up. AFM 974W, black with red stripes.

    The RD was geared for 9mph / 1000rpm in top. Redline was 9,000. If you wanted "more" you had to gear it differently and go for a tune. I saw 9500 several times on standard sprockets.

  • @mgsamps

    Changed the sprocket sizes on mine had set of microns, and took a few mm off the exhaust port and it was good for a ton. Used to keep with my mates RD250.Good ol' days

      @@billybarr7443 except I'm not lying mate, I regularly Kept up with RD 250s and actually beat a Suzuki X7 in a straight 5 mile race. The smaller front sprocket (1 tooth ) along with the inlet porting allowed it to rev into the red in top gear to gain the davantage. It was a pretty quick little bike even in standard trim from the factory topping out at 92Mph, after the mods it would hit 105 + down a hilly stretch of road. I never ran the bike in from new and red lined it everywhere. You can disbelieve me as much as you want but I don't really care.
      I also owned a Kawasaki ZX6R that I had some tuning done to it and that bike kept up with 900 fireblades and GSXR750's. I was clocked by the police on the m20 doing 168.4mph and lost my licence after getting a lengthy ban. Went to cars after that and sold my bikes.

    Ignition timing is out, had a couple of these and their very subseptable to this. Great vid, nice to hear it again.

    • @cedriclynch
      @cedriclynch 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The RD200 (and RS200) have a centrifugal advance mechanism on the points cam, so that the timing retards at very low speeds to avoid the engine kicking back against the electric starter (which works by running the DC generator as a motor, hence you do not hear the usual starter motor noise). You must hold the centrifugal weights in the fully-out position while setting the timing at 1.8mm before top dead centre. If you don't, the engine will probably soon blow a hole through a piston.

    nice bike. what is its top speed? ive got a rd125lc and ive been arguing with my dad because he thinks the 200dx is much faster... i think it would be a closer match than he thinks. ive had nearly 100 on the clock indicated. hope you can put the argument straight :D

  • @timcope8445
    @timcope8445 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Was that a single carb RS200?
    Dog slow if not ...mine would go straight to 92mph/9000+ rpm
    The 200 was heavily restricted on air intake...so it didn't embarrass the RD250
    If you make custom side covers for the air box it revs and revs

    Its been quite a while since ive been on a Lc125 but i had a black one years ago and i remember it showing 95mph on the clock and quite easy.The most ive seen on the rd200 is 86 so far but was pretty much maxed out and layed out although since the video the bikes been stripped and restored and has yet to be run in.Once it has been its off to the local tuner to prise a little more out of it with better setting up for the microns thats on it now.
    Roll on summer :)
