In the late 70s, my boyfriend, who worked for Yamaha had an RD400, bored out, disks drilled 2/3 pattern etc. Fastest thing around Huntington Beach,CA. He built me an RD350, and I swear, the looks on guys faces, when I'd sneak up on them and blow by them, then take off my helmet..OMG IT"S A GIRL!!! LOL. These were probably some of the quickest, and obviously the MOST fun to ride... wish I could convince my husband that I need one.

What a great RD350 Video - Nothing but the sound of 2 stroke music thru the whole ride. Your bike sounds awesome. I am still working on getting mine road worthy - I start it up every couple of weeks to keep this going and just love the sound. Great job on your bike - keeping the History alive and on the road.
great video! brings back memories as soon as i heard that initial startup. around 1980 i had a 1974 rd350 and wish i never sold it. rode the hell out of it and routinely blew away 650/750 cc bikes between traffic lights. Top end not so much
Clever way of eliciting a greater response to your Video. With @ 39Bhp on tap, and the ability to do over 100 mph. The styling and specifications made it a Winner.
I'm 17 and my dad handed me the keys to his 75 rd350 that's been sitting in the garage for 14 years I am pulling it apart and repainting everything I can't wait to be riding like this!
I had a 1974 RD350A. Speedo always read 10% high, so indicating 110, it topped out at 100 MPH. Took it from MN to CA and back in 1975. Huge surge of power when the tach hit 6,000. I routinely hassled 750's. Those RD 350's were the crotch rockets of their day. I bought a 750 Yammy 3 cylinder after the 350. That was a cool bike.. Wife and I rode everywhere. Currently ride a '78 Goldwing with 24,000 actual miles. Barn find. Since when is an RD 350 a girly bike? I wish I still had mine. Enjoy!
Tokyo Torpedo. Pocket Rocket. The Giant Killer. Well earned nicknames. I had four 1974s, and one 1975. Sold each for a few hundred bucks! Who knew back then they'd ever be collectible?!?!
Here's a story about my RD350. It developed a high pitched squeak that I couldn't find a reason for, didn't seem to affect the way the bike went so I didn't look too hard to find the cause as it didn't happen all the time. Eventually someone in the little village I lived in complained about the squeak waking them up in the middle of the night so I thought I had better get to the bottom of it, as it was quite loud. Hunted all over the bike for anything that might be causing such a noise, brakes, chain, wheels etc, couldn't find anything. Until I sat thinking and rested my hand on the cylinder head and it moved! The cylinder head had worked loose and the squeak was the engine just about to seize. Tightened the cylinder head down and all went back to normal. Just shows what a strong little engine the RD had, it kept going and I never had any further trouble with it...great wee bikes!
mannnnnn, that was heaven! sexy stuff! i'm one of those little kids who is still dreaming of building my RD one day ;-) don't laugh, man! ...i kind of forgot for the past say 10 years what the RD sounded like and how it used to blow my brains as a 10 year old boy. Thanks for this reminder.
Got mine in 86 embarrassed a lot of 550, 750, and 1000cc machines. Also never bowed to a 5.0 yes, even the LX with the 5min tune-up. Raised the ports and change the Reed valves in 87 and then it really woke up. Everyone called mine the Grandpa bike, it looks like a CB350 but they sure don't run like one.

My dad and uncle and their buddies had many of them when I was a kid, it made quite a rukas when 5 of them would come pulling in the driveway. Usually an h1 and h2 with them As well!
It is meant to be humorous, an old joke among friends. I belong to a Kawasaki Triples Forum as well and some of my friends rib me about thier manly triples versus the girly bike twins hence the title of the video. I have an H2 750 triple also if you check out my other videos. All done in the name of good fun.
It is an inside joke among the guys at the Kaw triple forum. We refer to the Kaw Triples as manly and the Yamaha twins as "girly bikes" ... all in good fun.
i know what you mean by that, but these RDs seem to sound like really mechanically rattley, like off decel it sounds like somethings really knocking around in the engine
This sound it's a Symphony of Mozart.....
This bike is scary. Only who already rode one knows what I am talking about.
it will be the death of me

Mine has a hard time keeping the front wheel down
I’m restoring a 1974 right now
Mine is twice as spooky
I had one and it was my funnest bike. It had the best brakes.
What a brilliant video.
Thank you.

Yamaha was the king of 2 strokes.
These 350s were little hoofers. Even stock.
Love your share!!! Gotta show my 23 yr old son what I used to ride as a teenager!!!! He has no idea about 2 strokes!!!!!!

You can tell by the “Ring of the cylinder fins” no girly bike, almost got killed on mine numerous times on corners 6th gear! 😂😝👍🏻
Nice video! My first street bike was a 73 RD 350, I was 13 years old, lol. Good times!
Same here, but I was 17.

I love the way the tach needle tickles and then spanks the red zone.

The RD 350 was a very, very fast bike in terms of acceleration!! Ooocha!!
Try the rd400f
Sweet ride:) , seems a lot faster than my R5 was, back in the day.

That’s really funny I had a strange squeak noise coming from one of my motors and it was a leak coming from the spark plug due to a warped washer

The Yamaha 350 'RD', (Road Demon). However, it ran out of juice at about 110 MPH.
I remember my first ride on my RD 350, my thought was holy shit!!

..but a Prepped RD will kill a 4T Cb 750 nighthawk..sorry
I hear ya. A CB-750 is not a pair for a RD-350.
good run. you almost never see anyone get into sixth gear?? good job. it sounds sweet.
It's not a girlies bike I had one in the 70's awesome bike they are not cheap now they are sort after bikes now worth a lot of money now.

Yes, they are the best sounding bikes of all time.
anybody know why these engines make such a racket on deceleration? is the piston slapping? sounds so noisey.
2 strokes misfire on deacceloration and low rpms. that's why all 2 strokes have that unique rat a tat tat.
