    Great video as always. I have successfully partitioned the disks and installed the base system. Then I got lost when you installed you personal repo and advised us to install the public to which you provided the link in the description. Did that but after that in your video you perform certain steps with linux-install-base which do not have so I am a little lost where to go from there in your video.

    • @eflinux
      @eflinux  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The repository contains the list of commands used to install certain DE or WM. I don't recommend using this video for that unless you know how to tweak the packages. You should try installing a desktop environment as is with the script or manually by following the customization tutorials I have on the channel.

    This is with (Arch Linux Monthly Install - 09.2021 - I saw the video and was removed) Excellent monthly install of Arch Linux,
    I have a question:
    related to (Arch Linux: Hybrid Install With Encrypted UEFI & Legacy BIOS On a USB Stick)
    is it possible to do this dual with systemd instead of grub?

    I would like to see a video how to migrate an existing Arch system into a different laptop with new ssd. I was looking for archwiki for it and have realized the top to bottom method with rsync would do it but i have some question what i could not sort it out. For example if the old system is intel and the new one is AMD. That would make the process a bit tricky...At least for me. :) So a video tutorial about this would be appreciated. Thanks.

    Thank you for the great video. Somehow when I reboot after regenerating the grub file it doesn't detect the new UEFI partition to boot on and try to boot on the USB key from which I install the distro. It's weird...

    I have a question on installing two kernels: if I want to have the latest kernel as the default but also install the linux-lts kernel for backup, can I do that at the initial pacstrap, or after I chroot in to the installation when installing other packages, or…? When is the best (and safest) time to install linux-lts so they will both appear in the grub menu, with the latest kernel set as the default? (I dual boot this laptop with windows, and it shows up fine, no issues.)
    When I installed my lts kernel, I did it after the initial install, but even after following the wiki and the forum grub customizer and manual settings suggestions, I have never gotten the default to be set as the latest: it still uses the linux-lts as the default in the top line of the grub choices (since it was installed more recently, maybe?). So I always have to boot into the latest kernel using the Advanced option boot choice on grub’s line #2. No big deal, but it's a little annoying to require an extra click just to boot up.

    • @eflinux
      @eflinux  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Tony, I'd install both at install (and the headers as well). I can't really say why setting the default does not work. The Wiki method is the only one I am aware of. Any similar issue in the Arch Forum?

    • @Appalling68
      @Appalling68 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Tony, you have to tell GRUB what to do. That is, you have to instruct GRUB via sub-menu entries to tell it what kernel to boot as default. Here's a very good write-up of the whole thing, which totally helped me set my default kernel (among about four options) in Linux Mint. Yes, this applies to Arch because hey, Grub is Grub.
      < help.ubuntu.com/community/Grub2/Submenus >

    • @tonyawards560
      @tonyawards560 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for getting back so fast, ermanno, and thanks also Appaling68 for the link. Good info there.
      I tried changing my first line in grub, GRUB_DEFAULT=”Saved” to GRUB_DEFAULT=0, as is shown in the Arch wiki and also in your ubuntu link. However, all that did was make it select the first line every time as default, as expected.
      So I then changed GRUB_DEFAULT=”Saved” to GRUB_DEFAULT=”1>0” to get the Advanced choice to load right away, per the Arch wiki examples in these sections: wiki.archlinux.org/title/GRUB/Tips_and_tricks#Recall_previous_entry.
      At least that eliminates having to extra-click into the submenu. I can live with that.
      Still it’s weird that I am unable to reassign the default line-1 in grub to linux-linux instead of linux-lts. Maybe there’s a way to manually overwrite grub-customizer’s individual line settings. Will keep looking and post back when I figure it out.
