What i always found fascinating about the Fast Show is that many of it's sketches are funny while simultaneously are sad. Like this one, for example. Sure, some are silly but most are very realistic.
Ted and Ralph. It's funny but it transcends comedy and becomes something much more. Because you want them to just be happy and themselves. Also, that one with the drunk old guy, I was very very drunk. There's one incredibly sad one. The fast show is absolutely amazing. I saw a few sketches as a kid when it was on channel 4 but I watched them all last year and it's brilliant. Pure genius.
I like it how it throws the cameraman off. He's geared up to zoom in on the saxophonist then has to abruptly cut back to the drummer for the third time.
For the young who may not get these sketches - well back in the 60's (black and white TV) we had shows on TV like this (obviously meant to be serious about jazz). From my point of view, being a child of the 50's (also a lover of jazz) find this absolutely hilarious. Wish they did more.
If you look for Jazz 625 on youtube you will see a lot of clips from the times in black and white. Also when the Old Grey Whistle Test first came on air (BBC) you can see the style of introduction.
Now Now Rich....don't be like that...I just started a new job with a new van with DAB so can listen to Jazz FM again. When it gets like that just turn over to Magic Soul or Absolure 80s like the rest of us. 😁😁 Have a cracking weekend Mate.
I went to a club called the Ceasefire Jazz club. What a load of rubbish that was! When I went in there bullets were flying all round the place! I just managed to get out of there in 1 piece!
@@wtglb The trouble with this is, you are effectively making fun of someone who has memory loss/partial dementia due to aging. Is it normal to laugh at dementia now then?
Paul Whitehouse's absolutely stellar "just being there, absent/present" demeanor at the beginning and then thawing/unthawing. Brilliant.
I love the fact Louie has to smoke outside in 2014
Rumour has it the drummer is still being introduced
Yes, and inventing a myriad of new riffs every...single...time...
@@elainebmackYou mean fills?

Comedy is ultimately tragedy

Yes..
Absolutely. That's why it was so good. Everyone could relate in some way.
Never on channel 4@@thatoneguychad420
hilarious and so detailed, every moment is a gem
The Fast Show - best British comedy ever!
I would soooooooooooooooo love to see this done as a complete song
The “jazz” hair is spot on. I knew a brilliant sax player who sported exactly the host’s style.
I saw a bass clarinettist in London years ago who still played at 80! Standing ovation.
Formidable!.........is my all time favourite.

I heard that Tony Bennett said that he loved this sketch. Then he said that he loved this sketch.
It was five minutes and 5 more vids before I got your line. Nice.
Love this but I'd have liked to have found out who was playing the drums.
Genius ❤❤❤❤❤❤
Was that Clam on Bass?
Looks like the bassist from Madness
naturally
@@tjtanner500 beat me to it 😂👍
@@paulkielty3800 clem fandango was doing promo
He was following that A-A-B-A structure. Contemporary...

@@jeanettesamuel5437 I presume the "625" referred to the new High Definition TV standard? :D
@@ian_b you have it in a Nutshell - Nice!
Jazz fans -- "What's keyboards legend Joe Zawinul doing on bass?"
I've watched the actual gig about 20 times over. My chest hurts.
Same here!!!!
Hello Joe
Absolutely brilliant!
Paul Whitehouse is a great singer.
This was brilliant!
Better days,sadly passed . . Comedy genius
That shiny pudding bowl hairstyle sported by our compere is just spot on revolting. Accurate and repulsive simultaneously, cooool.
Never ever fails…Brilliant
Mark Bedford of Madness on the bass there!
So let's hear it for Matt Penrose, on the drums...and on bass....😢
I think it's Joe Zawinul.
Bring them back..pls
Jazz FM is still like this
Now Now Rich....don't be like that...I just started a new job with a new van with DAB so can listen to Jazz FM again. When it gets like that just turn over to Magic Soul or Absolure 80s like the rest of us. 😁😁 Have a cracking weekend Mate.
Met Paul in he bank once - lovely bloke
You could have asked him to do a sketch for you.
Nice.
Shout out to Clam on bass. Back where he belongs.
Nice!
Yeah, but who's the drummer??
That looks like Joe Zawinul on the bass!
where can I get a copy of Herbie Jackson's latest album? Is it still 9.99 on the Shopping Channel?
Just think about it, imagine, empathise - stuck in a never ending 2 bar solo....
Great!
Herbie Jackson singing Corn Pop.
I think that drummer should be given more credit.
Nice! Great!
Subbed. Love the fast show.
Suuuuuuperb
"on the Drums Mr Nat Penrose",rest of the band what the ......!lol
...Uh.. I didn't catch the name of the drummer...uh....????
Pause at 2:32. An ARSE production for BBC2.
Is that Bedders on bass, wearing a wig and false moustache?
In the 60s the cameraman would have panned to the bass player
God it was good.
I’m sure I recognise that geezer playing the drums, but for life of me I can’t remember his name.
The intro music sounds like Lee Morgan
Was Frog deliberate, or a slip by Thomson?
Nooooiiiiccceee
Taking the piss out of dementia is something you either love or hate...........or think is kind of ok
Brilliant comedy
I always find this sketch uniquely funny. Maybe I shouldn't have drank from Herb's glass....
The Joe Biden of jazz... grrreat.
Let's Go Herbie Jackson !!!!
Braydon Harrington too or are you seriously that dense ? It's a stutter
Sniff sniff
😂🤣😂
Best comment😂
In a turquoise mood....
NICE
Who is he parodying?

Fuckin hilarious this.
The host, look at his hair !! 🤣
RIP Jazz
They edited the ' great Clam on bass'bit
Thank goodness they got rid of the laugh track
Visionary, Joe Biden on vocals!
Comment of the year so far. Oh and EpStein lives in Israel now. Also Biden stole the election from President Trump.
@@airwolf5826 Sore loser alert.

It looks like a Phil Collins gig.
Going Ga Ga in a nutshell. Love it.
Accurate impression of Brandon 20 years earlier
"The Velvet Frog"?!
If Joe Biden did Jazz crooning....
how paul whitehouse looks like now XD
Says a fucking nobody.
Well this sketch goes dark pretty quickly.
Back when we could laugh at life?
hilarious. still
Well not bad for a former President...
This sketch is pretty dark it's all to real.
Good to see the Joe Biden Quintet going strong into the 2020's.
This is too close too real life politics.
Wow, Paul Whitehouse doing an excellent Joe Biden impression!
You know, Alzheimer's is no laughing....
...erm, what were we talking about?
joe bidens jazz pioneers
Never meet your hero's.
It’s Joe Biden.

The velvet frog😅😅😅😅
The velvet frog
Lol!
😂
If Biden was a jazz singer.
Nah, there's something not quite right about these new ones, his delivery is all wrong? i'll stick to the originals.
I found this surprisingly funny. They still got it
I agree.... I can't put my finger on it but it doesn't feel as authentic as the old ones.
Paul Whitehouse is like an early Joe Biden
An obvious dry quip at Alzheimers but very apt.
Lol...
Joe Biden, anyone?
Basically joe biden
You misspelled 'Trump'. Has he been dancing on the stage again for the better part of an hour?
Joe Biden's state of the union address, set to music.
Uncanny Joe Biden impression!
Unfunny arsehole.
Herbie Johnson has Alzheimers.
Very insightful ...
Joe Biden...
