I actually recently came back to this game. Based on my unlocks, i didn't put the most time into it the first time but I'm ready to really give it a go this time around. From a lot of the videos I've seen, there's a lot of depth to be learned when it comes to this game
Im glad the original team behind this game is not around anymore. Maybe when new devs create a Battlefront 3 they'll actually make a game that is faithful to its Battlefield roots instead of overly focusing on jedi heroes and ignoring the infantry combat.
As someone who loved Star Wars Battlefront 1 (from 2015) I in a way always thought the exact opposite way about it (although despite that un the end coming to a somewhat similar result as you in parts). To me one of the biggest mistakes they made with the 2017 game was giving up the unique and creative way of customizing the troopers capabilities and weapons in Star Wars Battlefront 1 for a Battlefield clone style of 'infantry trooper' class system (which doesn't even have much resemblance to the movie originals). As much as I love the game nontheless, it was never nearly as good and balanced as the 2015 Star Wars Battlefront 1 became in the end after it's numerous updates. It's (like you similarly recognized in your own way) just way too much of a 'Battlefield Star Wars Edition' game instead of being a true sequel to the much more unique first 2015 game. Instead of making it a 'Battlefield clone' it could and should have much rather been a more stand alone alternative (like the first game was) with fewer similarities to the battlefield games, not more. On top of that, all of the best game modes and especially all of the best maps SW Battlefront 2 has to offer are all more or less remastered copies of SW Battlefront1 content. The mechanics of the starfighters are indeed much better, but the unbalanced and sometimes outright broken missions make playing starfighters somewhat less fun in the end. I was always really hoping a Star Wars Battlefront 3 game could go somewhat back towards the style and mechanics of the first game again but with new content. Seems like EA will not bring out a 3rd game though, so maybe in the end it's just good that some other game developer may have a chance at doing an all new remake, with better designed maps, better and more balanced missions and game modes, more balanced weapons, better balanced heroes and reinforcements etc. Having to play strike as a rebel with utterly harmless (big or small) furry 'teddies' versus nearly over powered death troopers as enforcements is and always has been rather nonsensical, really, and it just once more demonstrates 'rather poor and somewhat lazy' game development overall (especially when compared to the 2015 game). Despite all these aspects and the vast amount of cheaters running around in the game on PC it still is is a lot of fun to play, of course. But that doesn't change the fact that it could and should have been so much better had it only been more like the first game from 2015 instead of upgrading it with recycled 2015 maps.
@@tomwoggle9411 What are you on about? Battlefront 2015 is NOTHING like the original Battlefront games, its so obviously more inspired by COD's less teamwork oriented gameplay and customization. Its true that Battlefront 2 (2017) is closer to Battlefield's style of gameplay, but it's also far more shallow and less dynamic than games like Battlefield 4 or Battlefield 1. This is why a hypothetical Battlefront 3 needs to be CLOSER to the Battlefield games. It needs better class customization, more weapons and gadgets, cooperative vehicles, and less emphasis on shitty Overwatch styled jedi characters.
11:17 Yeah, this is basically the system in old bf2 2005. randomly, after racking up a bunch of the kills (i think it was if you were at the current top of the leaderboard ingame) it would give you a notification if you wanted to play as the hero/villian. i feel they could improve it to what you said, where it would put you in a queue and let you know when that character is playable
There's a few things I wanted them to release before they stopped supporting the game, such as more co-op based modes and of course a Galactic Conquest mode. It helps to have other mode types that aren't strictly PVP based. Especially like a Duel mode where you and a friend can fight each other in private mode. Similar to Heroes v Villains mode, but just between two people, in a private mode.
Now that the OG Battlefront Games are re-releasing on all Modern Platforms with all DLC's, and Online Support, I'd say it's more likely we get the OG Battlefront 3(if the files still exist and they can find a competent Developer to finish it)before a Dice Battlefront 3, or another Reboot.
Idea. What if there is a game mode that takes place at the Jedi temple and you can choose a Jedi. It is a co-op game that you have 3 other teammates that help you protect the temple from the clones.
Remember this game was trashed… we always look on the past like it was so great but when it’s current we hate on it so much happens in sports movies you name it.
I would've loved if this game had mixed factions. I think the most balanced era is probably the clone wars with regards to reinforcements. Edit: By mixed faction, I also mean skins and cosmetics with the infantry because in my opinion, I think its a shame that some of the cooler skins are only limited to their era and where they take place on the timeline.
Yea it’s so much fun when the community comes back and all the people start immediately using the exploits and bugs left in the game to ruin the experience for everyone else.
This one of those games where you come back to it for two weeks, play 80 hours of it, have it positive in your mind for the next year, then come back again
I like the queue idea you suggested, I’d mix it in with the current system and have it to where- You queue but you aren’t placed in any specific order, you’re just queued to play a Hero character. Now, the way you get “Priority Pick” is by participating and racking up those points, the game will recognize you’ve been doing the most and offer you the pick of the Hero character which you can either accept or pass on. IF more than one person just so happen to rack up the same amount of points/participation score the game will automatically do a lottery pick and offer the Hero character to that player. After that player uses a Hero character they’re locked out of it and the system restarts again for the rest of the lobby. Idk.
Star Wars Battlefront 2’s offline instant action modes are so much fun! Love relaxing and playing the epic battles solo. The AI is really advanced, graphics are great, Kylo Ren and Darth Vader are my favorites to play as, just a joy. Great memories playing it. 😊
One thing you missed is how great the original score for the game is. As a composer and a long time appreciator of the Legendary John Williams scores for star wars I can say that Gordy Haab's music for the battlefront II game is on par with JW. The orchestrations, the motifs, the orchestral textures. It's so satisfying to listen to! It's so memorable to me and possibly my favorite game score.
You don't need a trilogy of Battlefront games. Just give us one solid game that includes a decent amount of starter content and modes. Then over time add characters, add maps at a cost of a seasonal pass to support the devs. Just aslong as there is enough content when purchasing the base game.
I had a lot of fun with my sniper, think i got to lvl 700 something. Getting someone with a tripmine was so much fun, if you were far away you would hear a muffled explosion then points. Or before they nerfed it, on kamino you could put mines on the walls next to the door the enemy team has to through when the map progresses and if done right they cant shoot it so either you got many when the doors unlocked and they rushed or someone sacrificed themselves so the team could get through. Also, the emp rifle was just mean but fun. Its like explosive rounds in that most kills i got where clipping people hiding behind structures, shooting behind a saber block to take down a hero was awesome. Taking down those ace pilot players with it is also a treat.
Queue would have been a horrible thing. Imagine going off as a clone commando and getting pulled out because you queued like 15-20 minutes ago. Just lower the timer to force people back into action, there are plenty of other fun units and vehicles to use. As for galactic conquest, I really wish they added this. So many galactic assault maps would have been easily implemented into this gamemode and worked well.
Alternative solution to the hero queue: add more heroes so everyone can play different hero's at the same time, and have enough variety so they can get someone they like
On a triple xp day it literally only takes a few hours to max out a hero. I did rey from level 3 to 26 yesterday in coop. So i think its not taking to long at all. quite perfect honestly, did not feel grindy just pure fun for me mostly
I think if they reboot it again, it should only be one huge, expansive title with live service. To ensure that things don't go to ruin with planning and such, they need to just ditch the trilogy format and put all their efforts towards one title. No training wheel like they've done with the first game, no loot boxes, just put the best product they can out there for one title.
"There Will Never Be Another Game Like Star Wars Battlefront 2 2017" Excellent. If Disney did so much damage to this franchise already, the EA+Disney duo did way worse. Star Wars needs to be in the hands of people who care, NOT in the hands of people whose priorities are to appease investors, or increase their ESG score.
My theory on why they stopped updating is because they didn’t want the game to get too popular. Like to me it dosent make sense to end a games update cycle in the games peak when it is doing really well. To me it’s just that they didn’t want the gane to expand and wanted to use battlefield as an excuse to stopping the update cycle. And because of that that, the online Star Wars community like gane community took a massive hit.
i was there for beta and launch and everything i met a friend on battlefront i still play with today almost everyday this game was one of a kind its just kind of tragic they ended support for this game so early just so they could release celebration edition and get one more cashgrab i hope in the future that battlefront 3 comes out from another developer and becomes as good as this incredible game
Personally I loved the fact that they added unique side characters as heroes in Battlefront (2015). It adds to the charm and uniqueness of the game. Nein and Dengar will probably never be in another Battlefront game. I think we can all agree the more characters we can play as in these games the better.
Regarding the canon timeline, you are exactly on point. Lucasfilms requirement of canon content within the first few years was an asinine restriction on the developers timelines, it took Lucasfilm FOREVER to approve content for the game and ultimately became just as much Lucasfilms fault as it was EA's fault for its early failure.
When i first downloaded this game about 2 years ago i played heros versus villains and then promptly decided to not play the game. But a few months ago i decided to retry it and ive played the game almost every day since.
They could have brought a lot more heroes than just ahsoka and ventress. We should have had ayla secura, shaak Ti, Luminara, and plo koon. They could have also brought in more sequel villains like commander prye and others as well. SO MUCH POTENTIAL FOR THIS GAME!
More like there will never be a Star Wars Battlefront II 2005. Not "Star Wars Battlefront II 2017" which was a joke and remained one even to its death. Dialogue etc gamemodes however it still does not match up to what 2005 managed to pull off. Not slander just stating basic facts. 2017 however was good and i won't deny that i enjoyed it however it still remained content lacking and did not have certain features that made it more enjoyable -> proper space battles.
This game heavily limits player freedom which was its main problem since the start. This game gets boring extremely quickly because of this. I’m mediocre at battlefield yet it keeps my interest way more because there is so much emergent gameplay while I’m very good at battlefront 2017 but it gets boring very quick because of the lack of emergent gameplay. No multi-seat vehicles and vehicles exploding when exiting them is two examples of dice limiting player freedom.
BF 2 sure didn't die, it was killed. I think ultimately EA didn't want to be led around by fans, even Star Wars fans. They've been getting away with the loot box thing for years with FIFA, just be compliant and buy our loot boxes, pay to win.
I’m almost 100% sure that one day there will be another multiplayer Star Wars action game but it won’t be Battlefront. It’ll have some different name but I’m sure there will be one… In a decade… Maybe, maybe not.

This video hits 1,000,000 times harder after the shitshow that is the Battlefront Classic Collection
I hope we get a new star wars battlefront game that was so much fun in the end
The realization that this game is already almost a decade old gave me psychic damage. Oml.
i cant believe how long the remakes have been out now
11:17 Yeah, this is basically the system in old bf2 2005. randomly, after racking up a bunch of the kills (i think it was if you were at the current top of the leaderboard ingame) it would give you a notification if you wanted to play as the hero/villian. i feel they could improve it to what you said, where it would put you in a queue and let you know when that character is playable
not having Mace Windu is a crime..
It’s a depressing time for starwars fans right now.
Considering how the classic collevtion launched, I would not hope too much
Get into the game late 2018. Still playing it today
No Galaxy Conquest, a bate and switch Imperial focused campaign. This game is nothing compared to the original Battlefront 2.
So happy about the news we got today
Battlefront classic collection: Hold my beer
Fr.
But there still fuckin us why not remaster that game with battlefronts 2 2017s awesome graphics are they scared to release the best game ever?
@@austinporter6701 it's a remaster so it's meant to stay as close to the original as possible plus Aspyr doesn't have that kind of budget.
It was great at the time but bf 2 2017 is just better. Don’t let nostalgia tell you otherwise
@@AREKAY95 2017s game is missing so much content.
Yea it’s so much fun when the community comes back and all the people start immediately using the exploits and bugs left in the game to ruin the experience for everyone else.
you're goddamn right man, that game, it deserves the best🔥✊
Finally you came back to battlefront 2
This one of those games where you come back to it for two weeks, play 80 hours of it, have it positive in your mind for the next year, then come back again
The hero idea you had was awesome. And I think I'm also overdosing on copeium because when you said there might be a reboot in 2025 I got so excited.
The modding scene with this game is crazily active, so the game stays feeling fresh for a lot longer
Idk.
Galactic Conquest Large Scale Multiplayer would be so good
I seriously love this game, the redemption this game went through was just incredible. So sad that it got cancelled.
21:10 man time goes by so quick.
That hero queue idea is a really nice sort of throwback to the 2005 version
Still love playing this game!
Battlefront 3 - We're all playing it in our dreams, and it's an absolute blast!
Alternative solution to the hero queue: add more heroes so everyone can play different hero's at the same time, and have enough variety so they can get someone they like
Something EA would "definitley do"
I remember I got mad once and tried to wait for a Hero... and got kicked for inactivity lol
Was the fairest eff you I got from this game.
The hero wait list is actually a great idea
20:38 😂😂
This man predicted the future
On a triple xp day it literally only takes a few hours to max out a hero. I did rey from level 3 to 26 yesterday in coop. So i think its not taking to long at all. quite perfect honestly, did not feel grindy just pure fun for me mostly
It’s soooo sad that this game and BFV died for the disaster that is BF2042
Miss this game so much, used to watch you stream it on the 2nd channel under a different name (smr)
BF2 2017 had some of the highest highs and the lowest of lows
Tried to play this yesterday and got annoyed by the amount of things my character would get caught on in the scenery
I was there since the beta. It's tragic how this game went, such potential. It really is fun.
I’ve been playing again recently and man it’s so good
I think if they reboot it again, it should only be one huge, expansive title with live service. To ensure that things don't go to ruin with planning and such, they need to just ditch the trilogy format and put all their efforts towards one title. No training wheel like they've done with the first game, no loot boxes, just put the best product they can out there for one title.
Star Wars battlefront 2 remastered would have to be a little bit like it if it were to happen you gotta admit
the fact that i have 900 hours in game with no updates .its that good
"There Will Never Be Another Game Like Star Wars Battlefront 2 2017"
Excellent.
Man I still remember playing this game in the pre release stage
Personally I loved the fact that they added unique side characters as heroes in Battlefront (2015). It adds to the charm and uniqueness of the game. Nein and Dengar will probably never be in another Battlefront game. I think we can all agree the more characters we can play as in these games the better.
Justice! Uninstalled this waste of time and never again. Got og battlefront 2. Easy choice between the two.
The remaster is gonna be great!
@@KeepTheAngerFlowing There probably never will be…
@@grimreaper6939 yeah my reply didn't age well.
We’re getting a GTA 6 before Battlefront 3
Regarding the canon timeline, you are exactly on point.
Lucasfilms requirement of canon content within the first few years was an asinine restriction on the developers timelines, it took Lucasfilm FOREVER to approve content for the game and ultimately became just as much Lucasfilms fault as it was EA's fault for its early failure.
When i first downloaded this game about 2 years ago i played heros versus villains and then promptly decided to not play the game. But a few months ago i decided to retry it and ive played the game almost every day since.
“Balanced”
Death Vader winning a 4v1 because he has OP damage, health and stamina regen:
“A full campaign” is debatable. I do love the game now though. It’s so sad its reputation was dragged through the dirt from launch.
Games like this come out every year. Over monitored soulless cash grab based of a popular ip that eventually gets abondened.. I’m lost
BF 2 sure didn't die, it was killed. I think ultimately EA didn't want to be led around by fans, even Star Wars fans. They've been getting away with the loot box thing for years with FIFA, just be compliant and buy our loot boxes, pay to win.
Never played online once, only did the story multiple times. I'm now realizing how much I missed out tbh
I’m almost 100% sure that one day there will be another multiplayer Star Wars action game but it won’t be Battlefront.
It’ll have some different name but I’m sure there will be one…
In a decade…
Maybe, maybe not.
Sometimes I’m bored and forget I have this masterpiece.
