At a dark time, this really made me happy. I played it for my teenage son in the car today blasting with fresh air and it was a relief from sadness in the world. God bless rock and roll. Fun watching you jump in and play along.
they need to make another Garage album with this cover on it, it sounds absolutely awesome
Awesome! I was really struck by their performance. Amazing on so many levels vintage sound... 80s vibe tone...they are a tight band and the song flat out rocks made it their own!!
Your face playing this makes me smile as much as you were smiling. 😂 Love it.
It was an amazing cover . Quite rock n roll and by far as i have rode the most heavy performance till now played at the serious Library of Congress. It was fun watching it even more fun listening it. Great flow from the boys .
Elton is very fond of Metallica " Nothing else Matters " is one of Elton's favorite tunes ever written. "Saturday night is all right for fighting "would be good one to cover 🎉 thanks for the video time to make a beer run🍺 15 miles to nearest beer store 😂🤘💪
Nickelback did a cover of „Saturday“ and it‘s killer! Enjoy your beer run and have a couple of cold ones for me today! I‘ll have to wait until Saturday. 😀🍻❤️
Check out Flotsam and Jetsam’s cover of «Saturday» ,very cool cover from their second album.
I love the song, the Dream Theater version is the one I once learned to present to the band...they said "no".... But this version rocks, I love how they stripped it down for 4 people and still sounds full.... dropping to Eb helps. SO well sung too, my only fear is there's a bit of post autotune on the vocals, it's very perfect but even so, the power is great .
I would even say they’re using a ton of autotune even live not just in post but yes, their version is phenomenal! 🤘❤️
@@schorschharrison With the recent revelations regarding the Eagles I was skeptical when I heard the vocals. I suspect you're right through. They are probably running their live rig through something like an Appolo X8P and autotune the crap outta Hetfield's voice. I've heard the UAD stuff is great at autotune live but there's probably even better hardware available for live.
@@DanielC__ If there‘s one band on the planet that isn‘t on a budget, it‘s Metallica 😂 I don‘t know what they’re using exactly but I‘m sure they hired an extra person that’s responsible for the autotune only during their performance. 😅👊
Never been a Metallica fan but I can't get enough of this!!!!!❤☺️🤘🤘🤘🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🔥🔥🔥🏴🏴
This cover is immaculate and infront of Sir Elton John himself. Truely a special moment I'll keep coming back to. It's wild that they are in their 60's, I've never seen a more vibrant band.
Amazing!
Saw this when I woke up this morning. It started my day off on the right foot. Now watching your video on the way home from work. Completes my day!
I just subscribed!
Thank you so much! 🤘 I felt exactly the same this morning. Amazing cover from an amazing band! Enjoy the rest of your day Jeff!
Metallica and Elton john should make an album together
Would it sound like the Lou Reed/Metallica collaboration? Saxon had Elton guesting on Party 'til you Puke' and 'Northern Lady' decades ago.
This show was in Washington DC where Elton John and Bernie Taupin recieved the Gershwin award. LOVE the DT version and this one aswell 🤘🤘🤘🤘
This is my third comment in one day, i hope im not annoying but this reaction of yours to the performance makes me so happy. Much love from south africa ❤
You feel the same way I do and anybody with a musical bone in them. Amazing!
Do a search for Elton John, Howard Stern, Metallica... Elton give James such a wonderful compliment about his dong writing that James was on the verge of tears. It was really moving. That was when Metallica performed Nothing Else Matter with Miley Cyrus... which was really cool too.
Dude, really cool reaction video. This cover to me is a masterpiece. These guys are at peak level as musicians. the Sir Elton John live version is fire good. Showing your guitar licks with the song is really intriguing in a good way and you seem super fun and cool. This was a really good reaction.
@schorschharrison appreciation of good music and musicians are happy people. Your welcome friend. Keep it coming. Rock on brother.
A very strange combination indeed. I never would have thought of Metallica and Elton John in the same sentence. It’s like rock cakes or marshmallows. Hey rocket man, is that a rocket in your pocket? Sorry 🤪 But it worked.
While playing the triads, James has a sitar effect on his guitar. Probably a Flanger.
And not just a baritone, but hitting the notes at his age, with no difference to when he was thirty.
Indeed Jim! Maybe they will be on tour together. What a package, haha 😃 Elton covered „Nothing Else Matters“ on „The Lockdown Sessions“ in 2021 so he was already familiar with the mighty Metallica. I wonder what James Hetfield from 1988 would have said to that. 😀 You‘re right, sounds like a Flanger paired with a Tremolo! He and his voice definitely aged well! 🤘❤️
So good to see how this performance makes you happy! I think we have got a 100% new James Hetfield since his divorce. He is smiling all the time, you can see how much he enjoys music and life. A changed person really. Completely the opposite of the sad looking guy he used to be. I believe his former wife must have had a very negative effect on his soul. So good to see him happy.
Whatever the reason might be, it‘s great to see him in good shape! 🤘🤘
The original guitarist (Davey Johnstone) on Funeral for a Friend/Love Lies Bleeding
th-cam.com/video/oj7KySpukkU/w-d-xo.html
This is my first time seeing your video, it's pretty cool! And I woke up the same day and saw the same thing on TH-cam and was blown away! I love it!!
This was fucking phenomenal!!! Metallica is the greatest cover band of all time. I loved Elton watching them. I was more excited for this than I was for 72 Seasons.
Metallicas is better than the DT one by far, as DT made it feel like work, Metallica you can tell did it whole heartedly
Carsten your pure joy and happiness towards music and everything guitar related Is a absolute gem.
Gebt dem Mann Abos, Freunde! Toller Content! Danke :D
Every of those gigs will raise the value of Kirks "Greeny"... right now it's a million $ easily, I would say.
Such a great cover! You could tell they were having fun. I also agree with you about James' conditioning as of late, he's in top form, and I think his vocal performance across 72 Seasons is some of his best. Took my daughter to see them live for her first time last summer and they were on point. Also, your reaction video was awesome! Very infectious energy and you had me smiling and laughing as well. Definitely subscribed. Thank you!
Funeral for a friend, love lies bleeding by Elton John has always been my favorite Glam Rock song. 0:55 he has always been a rock n roll, Glam rock and soft/piano rock artist. I do like the rock sound he had during the 80s with- Im still standing, and those classic piano rock songs from the 70s like Saturday Night's Alright For Fighting and crocodile rock
I had so much fun watching this reaction video. First time seeing your content and subbed. Cheers!
I really love kirk and james harmonizing guitars, you can tell Cliff taught them well
I knew Dream Theatre had covered this many moons ago but Metallica doing it recently has just reminded me and they did a great cover. It's one of my favourite Elton John songs and one heck of a album opener
Another Prog Metal band doing a cover of this is Redemption (bonus disc of 'This Mortal Coil') which I'm sure you'll like - in the the same league as the DT cover
Same story, but I was scrolling making my coffee hehe At least I had some time without the phone in the morning. The performance and the cover is amazing! I need it on spotify!
Nice reaction video mate. Sounds like they're tuned down a half step, is that correct?
Thank you very much Daniel! Yes, you‘re right. They‘re tuned to Eb. 🙂🙌
You need to watch the Howard Stern interview when Elton praised the band for "Nothing Else Matters" and left Jaymz speechless and a little teary eyed.
It was about Elton John and Bernie Taupin! Bernie wrote all the words.
Thanks for the info! I didn‘t know Bernie was responsible for the lyrics! Love his work! 🤘
James is the man. Metallica has been my favorite band since 89, but I almost wish they would retire so James would stretch out and do other projects. I'd love to see him and Jerry Cantrell do a bluesy rock project together with lots of vocal harmonies.
It‘s so hard for me to imagine a world without Metallica. I‘d love to see and hear a blues rock project with Jerry & James though! The JJ‘s! 🤘❤️
Given James’ pretty consistent stance on anything side projects or other I don’t think we’d ever see it unless its Metallica as a whole going a different direction. It would be cool though!
I've always wanted a James solo album just him and his guitar (maybe acoustic), would be so cold without hearing Lars behind him 🤘🏻
@LacedGuitars There are some acoustic videos of him online somewhere. Or you can watch the famous gig at Download with every famous metal drummer except for Lars 😂
@@schorschharrison I love those live shows and yess classic Joey Jordison with Metallica but I just mean Lars kinda has an upbeat happier style (writing and playing) that blends well with James' dark bluesy angry sound but I want all the darkness. Outlaw Torn acoustic type vibes. Nice vid btw! 🫡
Lieben Dank Anja! 👊❤️
Watched the show last Sunday night. Been playin this video over and over all week--the original that is
This was a reciprocal performance by Metallica I would think. The award is for Sir Elton John and Bernie Taupin to receive the Library of Congress Gershwin Prize for popular song. If you had seen Metallica's appearance on Howard Stern a few years back, they had Miley Cyrus with them to perform her cover of Nothing Else Matters which she did originally featuring Elton John. Stern had Elton John on Zoom call to add comments about the song and Elton called it one of the greatest songs he had ever heard. Well, that comment just about brought James Hetfield to tears coming from the master songwriter himself.
I saw the Stern performance on TH-cam and was overwhelmed by James‘s reaction when Elton said that. To me it really shows that James is a great human being. Although they‘re filthy rich rockstars they really care about their music and that makes me happy. Miley sang the song ridiculously great! 🤘❤️
Great video Carsten...they did a great job of this...Elton has some classic/ Rocky songs ...I watched the footage its excellent...🤘🤘🎸🤗
Thank you so much Kenny! The Metallica video has inspired me to listen to the good old Elton J. again! Tiny Dancer black metal version coming soon! 😂👀
I think Kirk was channeling one of his Guitar heroes on them solos! Michael Schenker ! Tell me Im Wrong! Amazing!
Amazing performance, no one makes better covers than MetallicA.
James voice is amazing.
The outro was a cross between Fade To Black and Halo on fire ( Lars).
Thats is the really video reaction !!! ... Watching and playing ... Great Talent!!! Salute from Brasil!
Gershwin Prize Award honoring Elton John and Bernie Taupin. On PBS for a limited time. Kirk was generating extra tension and anticipation in his solo by playing the D over A , D in second inversion is very unstable, anticipating the upcoming G chord. He's thinking horizontally.
You have so much fun. i like your reaction and action. go on!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I just subscribed b/c of this vid and your knowledge... and comedy. Thanks!
I love both DT version and this one. Metallica and DT are two of my top 3 favorite bands.
Great video man! Metallica are masters at covers. They should do another Garage Inc.
Don't know who you are but this might be my favorite reaction on this.
Definitely amazing 🤩
schorschharrison The thing to remember is that it probably took them a day to put it together, while following the Metallica pattern…
Hope there will be a Studio Version of it… and by the way: you‘re a very cool dude and I love the way you know how exactly Play the Guitar 🤘🏼🤘🏼
I like your style. It’s like a react video but you’re a legit musician, yeah, not actually teaching guitar or singing. I get to enjoy a reaction as if I were reacting as a musician and you have credibility in any of your opinions because I can tell you really play. First time senior channel. Liked and subscribed.
Metallica’s version sounds like something high school kids came up with in their garage. DT’s version is what a grown up version sounds like. I’ve been listening to both bands since the 80s btw. 🤷♂️
Actually that‘s exactly what Metallica stands for and I like that approach! 😀 For sure, the DT version is on another level skill wise. A grown up version is pretty accurate, I agree🤘❤️
PURE GOATALLICA!!!💀🤘💀 ABSOLUTELY BRILLIANT!!!THIS CRIES OUT FOR A COVERS ALBUM!!!
You critique Kirk’s solo and the chromatic “party” ending but really, if you listen to the original, they are staying fairly close to the source material. Kirk’s solo is fairly close to the original as is the ending. They just made it their own.
I‘ll have to give it a listen. Haven‘t listened to the original for ages! 🫣🤘
Kirk is unreal
As a dedicated Metallica hater i must say: this is a decent performance.
Elton is the best🤟🤟
Elton is the best, no doubt! And when a Metallica hater is giving probs to a Metallicats performance my day is complete! 😻🙏
You should check out the down 'n' outz Version of it
I just did! Thanks for the tip, it‘s insanely well played and reminds me of the Dream Theater version but with more soul in it! 🤘❤️
As an Elton John fan, I'd say this is a better cover. Metallica took a classic Elton song and made it their own. The Dream Theater version is a more or less copy of the original...and it misses the mark because it's so much of a copy it invites comparison to the original.
As I tell everyone...listen to the original studio version.
Volbeat - For Evigt, Hey Du hast das Drauf! Bitte spiele das doch mal!
Lead guitarist makes a mistake - it's alright, it's a jazz approach ;)
dirty ^^
Either u play along or react bro, confusing video... I'm sure you can generate even better content, success!
Dream Theater did it better.
@@genemoorman3065 Technically definitely 👍 But the ‘tallica version has a certain Garage Days vibe I really enjoy! ☺️
Does someone hav the tabs for this? I don't have the talent to find it by myself (even though I tried) 🥲
Metallica are the GOATS
I couldn’t agree more! 💯🤝
@@schorschharrison 😎👍💯
🖤 MAGICAL PERFORMANCE!
