On Day 12 in Osaka, Japan, we decided to first take a quick day trip to Nara, a city that’s about a 45 minute train ride from Osaka. We then returned to Osaka, and had some of the finest sushi I had during my trip there.
00:27 Trip to Nara - Nara is an old and historical town in Japan, not far from Osaka and Kyoto. It’s very easy to get there by public transportation. The first thing you’ll notice as soon as you arrive to Nara are the deer - they are free roaming all over the city, and people love to interact with them.
2:48 Todai-ji Temple - 500 JPY ($4.17) - One of the biggest and most famous temples in Nara is the Todai-ji Temple, and although it was intensely busy, we decided to pay the entrance fee and go inside. It was good to see, but it was a very busy day that we visited.
4:09 Lunch at Happoh Restaurant (和食屋 八寶) - After walking around Nara for a while, we headed back towards the train station, and had lunch at a restaurant called Happoh Restaurant (和食屋 八寶). The food was alright, but not the best. We then took the train back to Osaka to do some shopping and eating.
6:15 Tenjinbashisuji Shotengai - Tenjinbashisuji Shotengai is the longest shopping street in Japan, and it goes on for something like 2.6 km. We got back to Osaka, and walked around this area, before eating some amazing sushi.
7:23 Harukoma Sushi (春駒 支店) - While walking around the shopping market, I noticed a line of people, all waiting for a turn to get into Harukoma Sushi (春駒 支店), a famous sushi restaurant in Osaka. I had researched this restaurant and had wanted to eat here, but I didn’t know when we were going to get there, or where it was - but we stumbled into it, and decided to go straight in line to eat there. The sushi turned out to be some of the best sushi I had in Osaka. It wasn’t fancy, but it was good quality, big pieces of sushi and fish, and it felt like we were at a fish market. Awesome sushi, good prices, and friendly service.
Read more about this restaurant on my blog: migrationology....
That was all for Day 12 in Osaka - it was another good day, and the sushi was the highlight for me.

The technique of taking the fish off the rice and dipping it, then replacing it back on the rice is fantastic. I'm surprised I've never seen it before, as it seems the intelligent thing to do.

Not a proper way nor beautiful, elegant way to eat Sushi.

Oh your uni face! Tuna belly! I’m dying! I’m American but had the wonderful fortune of having a sushi chef teach me how to eat sushi more than thirty years ago. My sushi experiences today in my local area are hit or miss. Americans (and don’t get me wrong; I am very proud and happy to be one) seem to love and also produce sushi with a ridiculous amount of rice. When I am presented with a platter of nigiri and fish > rice, I could cry with happiness,

Its been so hard not to eat, but your videos (especially these Japanese videos) have let me taste and eat food without actually tasting or eating. Some people told me I was just torturing myself, but honestly it is one of the only things helping me through this time in my life right now. I watch it before bed so I can dream of fatty tuna sushi, tmepura and young chicken XD. anyways, thank you! And keep eating!

I liked it, but I already thought that eating the real deal (from a restaurant, not necessarily an expensive one), or something more like it, will taste really good... and God, I couldn't have been more right! Go an try it at a restaurant in town with good reviews... and if you have the chance, at a more exquisite restaurant... YUM!!!

You're not supposed to take the fish off the rice you're supposed to hold the whole piece and dip the fish side down only, and shaking the soy sauce off is rude and considered bad manners.

Just a wonderful envoy for Japanese food which I am discovering bit by bit and tuna belly by tuna belly-super.So far although sushi seems to predominate I have to confess that the cooked meats were a delight and unknown to me and many of my colleagues and I will endeavour to find them here in London although I suspect they will not match those in Osaka-sigh!Thanks for opening all our eyes and taste buds to the delights of Japanese cuisine your vlogs are our journey which none of us will be ever to afford but we can dream about and sample a little in our restaurants.Your website is a treasure trove of recipes just fantasticEven my meat head of a husband is now enjoying fish-thanks for that. From all of us in London, cheerio! And as ever-more please!
