Thank you Keegan! For the guy who doesn't like being on camera...he did do such a great job behind the camera!! I'm so grateful for everything he brought back. Journaling and pen collecting has been my therapy lately! Happy New Year!
You are one lucky girl, with a very nice husband. I would love to go do what he did and get them pennies on the dollar. Getting high end products that would take me awhile to save up.
My husband is traveling to Japan next week. I am so thankful I came across your video. This will be very helpful. Thanks for sharing your haul, they are lovely:)
Subscribed; this is amazing! I would love any tips you have for stationery shopping and general traveling tips for Japan! Thank you so much for sharing everything! Gorgeous!
Thanks for uploading this entertaining video. It reminded me of my frequent visits to Japan while I was working. For about 10 years (before I retired) I used to visit Japan on business at least once a year: it was not good for the bank balance as Tokyo is full of temptations. Apart from Itoya, there is also the famous Maruzen store (almost across the road from Itoya on the Ginza) and Kingdom Note in Shinjuku. The Japanese are so fortunate to have a culture that prizes excellent writing instruments, ink and paper. I built up a huge collection of Sailor pens and quite a few Platinums, to say nothing of the inks... I have all but 2 of the Iroshizukus (those 2 not being my sort of colours) but my standard blue is Asa-Gao (morning glory) and Tsukushi (horsetail, although that one is being discontinued so I have bought a back-up supply). The only drawback to the Japanese pen makers is that they keep on producing new series or limited editions. I highly recommend the Sailor series of pens based on cocktails which, happily, has been 'revived' with a new production of their line of annual editions from 2010 onwards at the start of 2022. They are colourful and exquisite writers! Enjoy your haul...!
Your collection sounds incredible!! I love Sailor and Platinum! The cocktail series is really fun!! I hope you get to visit Japan again soon. It is definitely on my bucket list! I'd love to check out the places you mentioned!
Imagine my excitement when you began describing your ink selection for your new 823... I saw the ink bottle, and thought "can it be?"; then you named it... OMG Robert Oster Caffe Crema! First time I saw a swatch online I was sold... before I even knew its name. I finally bought a bottle and it is as incredible as I hoped it would be. Actually I'll go as far as to say it's even better than expected. It was the first ink in a recent pen purchase, and I cannot say enough about Caffe Crema, especially on Tomoe River paper. Cheers!
i love SO many iroshizuku inks! I started with Ku Jaku and it was a gateway drug. There are the obvious ones like kon peki & yama budo. But a sleeper choice is Tsutsuji. Bright, saturated dark pink with some sheen. love it! I also enjoy Yu Yake as a bright true orange. (the other orange is more red to my eye and I didn't love it.) I'm so jealous of your haul! (I know this was a year ago, still jealous. ha ha)
After I watched this video, I couldn’t stop thinking about the Platinum 3776 shape of heart. I’ve been wanting to try this model for some time and the shape of heart really speaks to me. I saw a 20% off sale from Goldspot Pens and decided to grab it lol. You pen-abled me lol.
How do you like it!!? I finally did open mine and I'm in love! It's the perfect "classic" black fountain pen with that gorgeous bling! I am loving the carbon ink too! I've even used it in my FWP Carousel fountain pen and the ink has transformed how I feel about my writing experience with that budget friendly pen! I'm so happy for you!
@@timewithtata8004 I bought it in medium nib and at first I wasn’t sure about the pen. And then I found the perfect combination of pen, paper and ink and now I’m in love! I inked it with Sailor Manyo Kakitsubata and wrote on Endless Recorder Regalia paper. It’s so smooth and has so much shading 😍 It’s always a great feeling to find the perfect pairing. That’s the fun thing about this hobby.
@@timewithtata8004 What do you think about the Pilot Custom 823? Everyone keeps talking about that pen and I really want to try it, but I’m not sure about the vacuum mechanism. I like to change out my inks often and I don’t have much of a need for the high capacity. And it looks like it’s hard to clean.
Yes LT, I like the Amber more than the transparent! I worked in Japan for a month! I am obsessed with all things Japan! The stores are amazing! The people are amazing!
Gorgeous goodies you have there! I have the Pilot Iroshizuku inks Kon-Peki, Ku-Jaku, Yama-Budo and Tsutsuji and love them all ♥️ Beautiful inks that behave well in just about any pen that I put them in. Thank you for sharing Tata and Happy New Year 🥳
That was so exciting to see your haul that your husband got for you! My brother will be travelling to Japan in March, I'll have him go to Itoya or another big pen store for me too and have him shop for me! Haha, the shape of heart is definitely such a beautiful and excellent every day writing pen to use with black ink. I just bought my Custom 823 and it will be in my hands in about a week, but that is a Medium, so it might not be my every day black ink pen...I have yet to choose one of the Japanese pens to be that for me, but hearing your thoughts on the Shape of Heart is making me feel the same way now too! I have a Century in Medium, and that actually feels like a western medium, so I'd like to see how your Shape of Heart Fine tip writes when you get to that soon. Thanks for sharing!
Hi Lori! I go hard into hobbies too. 😂 My wife said I can’t start any new collections or she’ll lose her mind. But she’s so nice about all my crazy interests and spending. I just got a pink Sailor fountain pen from Amazon to try it out. Happy New Year! ❤ Megan
I'd take all of the pens your husband brought home. I have been using a 3776 since November and it's hands down one -maybe the- of my favorite pens. What a great haul! Just as you I am trying to reign in my spending and explore what I have more. Let's see how that turns out.
Loved your video so much Amanda. I am obsessed with itoya. Might be my favourite shop in the world! Just got back from Tokyo and I got the sailor Zoom nib pens. They are so kind and helpful. I had went twice ! Even bought cute clips of their logo. $2.50 each. I don’t even want to use them. I just want to look at them :). Loved your video. I will try Platinum - even though I might be a Sailor boy for life now !!
Your husband did an amazing job in Tokyo! One of my bucket list items is to go to Tokyo and attend their International Pen Show! And I'm like you... when I get into a hobby, I go hard down that rabbit hole and I then have to take a few steps back. And I have too many of the Pilot Iroshizuku inks... my favourite is either Tsuki-Yo or Ina-Ho! Great video!
Thank you Karyna! I have been loving your videos! I feel validated every time you upload a "NEW PEN DAY" video, lol!! I love your taste in pens...I've been really contemplating getting the Pelikan 605 in green b/c it is on sale in a few places. Do you love it??? I'm going to hold out as long as I can and enjoy these pens from Japan but I think that might be my next big purchase. I have to make a trip to Japan. The International Pen Show sounds like Heaven!! Take care! Thanks for watching. xo
Hi - I just found your channel and have to say, „I‘m amazed“. ITOYA is definitely on my bucket list now! That’s a really nice haul. Congratulations and have fun with them!
Jay did a great job for you in Japan. I think you should use the more teal color ink in the rice description pen. It goes with the colors. Pretty pens.
That is one enviable fountain pen & ink haul! Congrats. I was planning a bikepacking trip through Japan for 2020 but then, you know, that didn't materialize. I've been writing with fountain pens for many, many moons (here in Belgium, they were mandatory back when I was in primary school) but Japanese pens and ink only appeared on my radar a little over two years ago. Now I'm thinking I should leave the bike home and just rent a U-Haul. 😃 PS: you look like you could be Sela Ward's younger sister. 😉
Way to go Jay 💫 My husband shops for me on his business trips and we have so much fun with it - he FaceTimes me at odd hours 😂😂😂 from Tobichi, Loft, Narita Airport … Lucky for sure! Enjoy your new pens and TFS 🤗
Oh I loved seeing this!! Thank you for sharing!! And I feel seen cause when you said that you go hard when you get into a hobby, cause I’m the same 🤪 I’ve been into fountain pens since November & I have 5 pens now 🙈 One was gifted to me & the other ones aren’t that expensive as some pens, but anyway 🙈 I’m really enjoying it & Im waiting on my first FWP inks now! Can’t wait until they arrive!
My favorite Iroshizuku ink is momiji - the colour of maple leaves going from pint to brownish in autumn. It is the only one I ever had, but I love it to bits. It would probably be much too cool a colour for you.
What an epic haul! I feel you - I’m also a hobby extremist. 😂 Now I have to add that calico Platinum 3776 to my collection for sure. Thanks for sharing ❤
Massive thumbs up for pulling out Tsuki-yo (or Moonlit Night in English) first. It is my favorite ink from Iroshizuku (or Colored Dew in English). Its color goes from grayish blue to pitch dark blue, depends on how much ink you put on paper. I like to use it in ample amount, creating an almost black color for the untrained eyes. Black at the first glance, blue when looked closely is the perfect effect I'm looking for.
Right on Jay!! He did good! I love what you picked out, that 823 is high on my list. I'm just trying to pay down some of my credit card debt before I purchase it. I would go for the Amber too but probably a broad nib.
Hi Lori, I know you from your reselling channel. I’ve been a reseller for 10 years and also happen to have a fountain pen/stationery hobby so I’m very much enjoying this channel too. I love your pen selections and tell Jay he did a great with the video!
Ku jaku and Yama Budo are my favorite from the Iroshizuku line. Tsuki Yo is a very pretty blue black that has a lot of character, so I'd say you definitely chose well!
Mixable inks are just that. Platinum has a bunch of inks where you can play mix master and create new colors or shades. That line of inks I believe all have the same properties and chemical compositions.
Hi Lori . Happy New year from Malaysia. Love your pens . Can you share the name of the organizer brand ( in camel) that you got. He is going to Japan for 2 weeks . 😊
Loved this video❤ I live in Japan and have been to Itoya a couple of times. It’s a fantastic store that one could spend enjoyable hours and days in. Just a note about the pronunciation of Itoya. The I is pronounced like a double ee
I long ago gave up trying to match ink color to fountain pen color. That would mean that I'd need to have brown, black, blue, green, red, orange, gold (yellow or orange), burgundy, grey, and purple inks to match all the various-colored pens that I have. Generally, I use blue-black, black, blue, and darker-hued green and brown inks--conservative colors. I have had trouble with "fad" inks, shimmer and glitter, causing feed problems in my pens, so I don't use them.
Oh how I can relate to you with the new hobby "obsession" and your taste in pens! We have the same set of pens and I also purchased most of them within the same time frame! It all started with the Yoseka Refresh and I just had to find out about the other two brands. It's so cool that both of our starter platinums are the same ones. I also feel like my shape of the heart is my executive pen 😂 I think that will be my first and only black pen, the crystal final is just gorgeous! I'm curious to know if any of these have become your everyday grail pen for you?? For me, my amber 823 is the one. It's not as pretty as the other ones we have, but there's just something about it that just feels one with my hand lol
I enjoyed your programme to such an extent that I have subscribed . I noticed something interesting about your handwriting and a fault I had most of my life until at age 75 years , I purchased the inexpensive German made LAMY Safari . I shall not presume to tell you how to improve your but simply buy a $25 LAMY Safari on line or watch a video about the LAMY .
If you had gone I’m sure you would’ve left with less lol. Maybe it’s just me but I’ve noticed if I send my husband out with a list, the man will come back with everything on the list that was in stock. But if I go with him I’ll be more critical and want to save where I can. My husband is more frugal than I am but when it comes to me or the kids he’s very much a “just get it if you want it” kinda guy lol
He sounds so sweet!! Jay definitely stayed the course with that list! I'm sure I would have made more emotional impulse purchases if I were there (but maybe less, I agree).
Great video! And some really cool pens!!! I felt like I was there opening them up too! How many can you keep inked at once without one getting dry? The most I will keep inked is 12. I’m a little further down the fountain pen journey…but not by much… maybe a couple of years. I can maybe save you a little money, or rather help you spend more of it, faster! LOL! My advice. Go up-market faster (it appears that you are doing just that anyway!) I wasted a lot of time & money buying midrange pens (I have a drawer full of Lamys), that write perfectly, but don’t excite me. I bought a whole bunch of $50-$100 pens before I started buying grail pens. All of the medium level ones, with a couple of exceptions, are now in storage. You KNOW you are gonna eventually buy that Pelican 1000, Sailor KOP, MB 149, Pilot Custom Urushi (or 845), or Visconti Homo Sapiens….or equivalent… I can tell…. My only advice is to not waste a ton on different colors of the midrange, or upscale (like the same Sailors or Platinums,) and save for the big Kahuna sooner. I also love my semi-expensive Sailors & Pilots (the 823 is one of my favorites and belongs in every collection!) , that I bought too; but I wish I hadn’t bought so MANY, before I splurged on the 845 & the 1000! Next, I believe it will be the KOP!! Happy trails & please keep us up to date on your Japan purchases!!
@@timewithtata8004 Heyyyy! Not yet!! I didn’t take my own advice, and bought a Vanishing Point. Really cool pen…but, not in the same league as the KOP. It’s gonna happen soon. My issue is that I acquire Amazon points or equivalent at a significant rate every month. Enough for “free” midrange pens; not enough for a grail pen like a KOP…I have to exercise a lot of self-discipline to keep from pulling the trigger & wait for 2 months until the points build for a really high-end grail pen…that is $800 plus. I did so a few times; but often I can’t wait. But trust me…the high-end ones are where it’s at!! Lol. Do a video on the Visconti!! I want to see what you think. I think it will be like the 823, but nicer in appearance.
Hi! Thanks for watching. I would say I get a lot more feedback from my Sailor pens...it is a stiffer nib, but I love them. The PGS size is smaller but super lightweight which is nice. The platinum I am using is a medium nib and it is just so incredibly smooth. Feels very luxurious and I love the material of the pen. I think the finer Platinum nibs are more comparable to the Sailor nibs....but I haven't used it much yet!
Fine Platinum nibs are a bit toothy. Broader Platinum are pretty smooth. Sailor nibs have a graphite feedback. Feels like using a school pencil. All Pilot nibs are smooth. I am referring to the gold nibs. I have limited experience with Pilot and Sailor steel nibs, though I have the 1911 Compass and the Petit. Both are smooth. Can't speak to steel Platinum nibs. Hope that helps.
This is cool, so happy to see you happy getting all of those neat pens!!! Platinum 3776 Century is my all time favorite!!! 🤗
This was such a dream come true, how exciting for you and how much fun to live vicariously for me!
It was so much fun!!
Gorgeous pen collection you have there! I just ordered the Pilot Custom 823. Can't wait for it to arrive. 😊😊
A travel company needs to offer a stationery tour of Japan!
Check out inkyrocks on youtube. She lives in Japan, and she does videos now and then on where and how to buy pens and stuff in Japan.
Yes!! I love Inky Rock's Videos!! Thanks for watching Ann! xo
If I ever went to Japan, I wouldn't care about the sites, just the statoinery stores!
Jay did a great job with his mission and recording! That store is massive! You can’t go back to a normal pen after these! Congrats!
Thank you Keegan! For the guy who doesn't like being on camera...he did do such a great job behind the camera!! I'm so grateful for everything he brought back. Journaling and pen collecting has been my therapy lately! Happy New Year!

Thank you! I feel very lucky. The prices were much better in Japan.
Omg so beautiful! I think you made the right call by getting the amber pen instead of the clear.
My husband is traveling to Japan next week. I am so thankful I came across your video. This will be very helpful. Thanks for sharing your haul, they are lovely:)
Jay did a great job. He is like my husband is... SUPPORTIVE! They show their love this way! We are so blessed!
We're lucky girls!!
I’m so happy I’ll get to play with these pens!!

Just getting into fountain pens, just stumbled across your video, excellent. Really enjoyed it.
Enjoying your videos! Keep them up!

Wow what an amazing haul! The minori and shape of heart pens are top on my wishlist. So exciting for you!

11:22 all in favor of having the packaging the same as thos in Japan say, I
They did a really great job!
Beautiful pens Lori. What do you use them for? Calligraphy?
Thank you Gloria. I use them for planning, journaling, letter writing, drawing...any excuse to use them!

I just invested in the Homo Sapiens! I love it! Did you get your KOP yet???!!
How do you compare sailor with platinum?
@@timewithtata8004 thanks
@@timewithtata8004 when you mention the pilots being very smooth writers. What model are you referring?
Fine Platinum nibs are a bit toothy. Broader Platinum are pretty smooth. Sailor nibs have a graphite feedback. Feels like using a school pencil. All Pilot nibs are smooth. I am referring to the gold nibs. I have limited experience with Pilot and Sailor steel nibs, though I have the 1911 Compass and the Petit. Both are smooth. Can't speak to steel Platinum nibs. Hope that helps.
