- We have had so many emails, comments, and questions on what it actually takes to get the ChangLi or Truck here to the USA. While the car is $900 on Alibaba that is just the start of the fees, duties, taxes that you will be paying. This likely will not be out most exciting video however we really wanted to make sure that all of you understand the process and the fees that are associated with it.

I have imported one already and currently have a full container in route. Trust me he is 100% telling the truth, and I experienced a huge learning curve with my first one. Shipping costs are outrageous right now, and just to add to his list of costs you don’t find out about until you actually bring one in….this does get hit with that additional 25% tariff on top of normal duties. You also need to pay for importing bonding license. I imagine that those who have their item stuck in customs aren’t bonded. If you want one of these buying one from these guys is by far the best option for you, it will be quicker and cheaper then trying to do it on your own!

I imported two car parts from Finland to Norway (much closer)!
Long story short. Import fees, taxes, transport fees, port fees, paperwork... All the accessory costs. Was more than 2x the cost of the parts themselves! :-(

Back in April, I've imported a ChangLi into my native Romania. It cost me US $2500 for the car and FOB shipping to Shanghai, plus US $3000 customs clearance and shipping to door. Total: US $5500. At the time, I thought the delivery charges amounted to highway robbery, but now I think I got off pretty cheap.

All the info you said is spot on. I haven’t ordered a truck yet but have ordered an engine from Japan and had I not used an import company the fees and headache would’ve been nuts.

I deal with Air and Ocean freight. You are spot on. I've seen storage fees for air freight that was over $10k because the shipment was not or could not be picked up on time. You need someone competent to deal with the import stuff...Trust me! (I deal more with airfreight but handle some ocean but not at the ports)

I used to work for CBP, you would need a broker to import something like this from another country. Finding one that has experience with this could be tough. It’s the same process some car companies go through like Mercedes and BMW. Seems like this company has a good broker and infrastructure in place. It makes sense to buy from them.
Nope Changli company website says you can buy the car or truck cost less then $5000 with delivery and shipping.

This gentleman is telling the truth, and I'll add that there aren't big bucks to be made on the dealers end here in the USA. It would have to be a high-volume dealership to do very well. I'd say this guy probably averages only about five hundred dollars or so on a given unit. As well, I'm sure that he consistently loses would be customers letting them down when informing them that these vehicles aren't street legal. Another thing that will work against guys in this business such as the gentleman in the video here, is that General Motors and Wuling Motors (China) have been working together to bring a very low-cost model of Wuling's here to the USA, and that will be street legal. As far as I know the import merger units haven't arrived as yet. I'm sure they'll sell well here because we don't have decent paying jobs for a lot of people anymore since our politician's along with corporate greed sent those jobs overseas. And please don't get mad at the people that buy the upcoming Chinese cars, because they can't afford anything better that comes with a factory warrantee. And it's not their fault our politician's and big businesses like GM screwed us out of their mindless greed. This has caused a lot of needless poverty in the USA. And there are children that go to bed hungry in our USA. If you didn't know that, it's true.
ChangLi Explorer with upgraded batteries and other kits including hydraulic dump bed (loaded) delivered to Ocala Florida all in was $8650. Will check your website to see what you charge.
People acting like this major undertaking is something he should do for free. He's in business in an attempt to make some sort of living. Shipping cargo is an expensive and time consuming undertaking, especially bringing it into the U.S.. The guy needs to make some compensation for his efforts. I have a very close friend that ships commodities (rice, wheat etc) to Guam and brings containers back with products for companies here, Guam is a U.S. territory and he says it is extremely difficult when it comes to vehicles. I have asked him about importing a whole container load to Guam where his son lives and runs that side of his business, then bringing it to Port of Oakland where I can pick it up with a flat deck trailer so I can get the container to my warehouse. It is a logistical nightmare to pull off and something he and I both decided is simply not worth it unless we were going to make huge profit on the items. Mind you he is already bonded and has 2 full time employees working in the import/export of goods from overseas to American ports. It would take 2-3 months minimum to get and then time in customs. He has a warehouse at the Port of Oakland so that part is a bit easier. Still, no thanks.

You should work with the factory to assemble them in America 🤭 at least you can source the battery etc from a local shop. And do modification upgrades and ship to Canada 👍👍

I've shipped brand new BMW's and Mercedes from Germany with the German specs and it's not that difficult or expensive but this guy's people do the service of taking out a lot of the hasel and aggrevating factors.. and I Love convinence! Sometimes it's worth paying a little more for services this company provides..

WOW shipping this to NJ from Shanghai would be insane and time is no joke also. Ship to the west coast ( Prince Rupert) and rail to NJ. 50% cheaper and save three weeks.

this is a good concept and I applaud you in your effort to get ahead of the curve. I just want to add though, regulation seems to be the great hinderance in this. Its unfortunate that you have to go through the conglomeration of flaming hoops to stay a successful business.

100% correct. I looked into importing golf carts. It's sad the end user ends up paying $8k-$10k for something that is literally worth $2k because of cheap production, the logistics, and all the red tape involved in getting it to US soil and the seller just trying to make a living. So frustrating!
We need to figure out how to make these things here, to reduce costs.
What about if you ship it through Mexico I think they don't have the 25% tariff but I don't know how much it would cost to ship it from Mexico to USA.
I wanted to buy a go kart buggy shipped to Texas but the distributor from Alibaba said it couldn't ship it to USA but it could ship it to Mexico I just need to go cross the border to pick it up.

Anything of significance, like automobile manufacturers, get targeted by organized labor unions which in turn make the production of these products their business, not the owners and not the consumers. People always complain about costs but they’re often times the same people who complain about “living wages” which can’t be two priorities held simultaneously by any one person without them being dishonest.
i am in transportation and deal with customs on a daily basis. yeah you guys are making a few bucks as a business should)but the price youre asking is right in line.

TOTALLY worth vs the headache of manually importing. I'm guessing revenue per sale is around $500 max $1000 which is a very low price for this service compared to the headache.

@P A : Except this is 2023, not 2019. You're easily looking at paying at least $11,000 to $13,500 for a Pak Yak electric mini truck, delivered.
I ordered a tractor and didn't pay 1/2 of the fees you listed delivered to my door. I ordered other equipment it was an easy deal. But I had a shipper do it which the manufacturer set up
It's cheaper to have your ChangLi vehicle delivered by baloon. Arrange pickup off the coast of South Carolina.

As a UPS driver of 26 years, i can back him up on the surprise fees you can end up paying. i kew of a guy who tried to import Ebikes, and lied and said they were power wheels, they took the bikes and charged him $10,000.

Funny story, A former client of mine some years ago spent half the year in Cape Town, South Africa and the other in his other house in Delaware. In both countries he drove South African built and manufactured Mercedes Benz 230 cars. Funny thing the South African built car in the USA is one third cheaper than he bought it in Cape Town. The cars leave South African from the city of East London weekly by car carriers by the shipload.
So what is the classification for this type of vehicle? Is it street legal, does it need to have insurance like a normal car, is it insurable?

However, I suggest that if you want to buy this car, you'd better find a professional purchasing agency. Because of the complicated tax declaration, paperwork, customs clearance communication, etc., you also need to consider the external damage caused by the logistics process. The price of the purchasing agency is a little expensive, but you will save a lot of trouble

Initial price, versus the reality of parts and maintenance. The worlds running a resource shortage on everything that was normal to even the most abundant supplies. Manpower, resources, forces directly against stabilization and what do you have to gain getting this vehicle or any other? Debt.
These are toys with no backup. Get a bike, hope you can keep the tires from going flat.

Obviously, even purchasing an entire container does NOT ensure a dent free vehicle as I see a dent on the hood of the Truck and the front valance on the car is also dented. As interesting as these are... that's a lot of money in the end for something that isn't even street legal.

They are NOT legal for highway use in the USA, & for all practical purpose, they cannot be made legal. They are legal for off-road use only.
That said, as "neat" as they appear to be on the surface, there are simply many better & less costly alternatives already here in the USA, in my opinion.

My friend Aaron imported a Changli pickup for use on his farm. It cost him $7,000 and it arrived basically totalled. I was loaded in a container full of truck and tractor tires which basically shattered it. He ended up paying a junkyard to come haul it away. He received no support from Changli or the shipper. $7,200 was thrown away.

Just wondering if you could import things other than these electric vehicles? I would like to import sidecar motorcycles which would involve the same problems as these electric vehicles. It appears the crate for a sidecar motorcycle is roughly the same size as the vehicles you are selling. Motorcycles don't have anywhere near the DOT restrictions so it's possible for them to be titled, insured, and registered for legal road use. I would rather have it show up in it's crate so you would not need to do anything but remove it from the container sharing a container with your electric vehicles and send it on to me. Yes: I know you would charge and need to make a profit doing that, which is not a problem for me. I just ask if you would want to do something like that in addition to what you are doing now. Also I'm in Alabama which has a law allowing low speed Farm Truck's that will only operate on secondary roads and the electric truck's you sell fit the discription in that the vehicles speed is limited and is not allowed on interstate highways. I've been asking if it's possible for your vehicles to be registered and be street legal at my State DOT but can't get any of them to say yes or no being they are state government employees so I would need to show up with one to actually find out, which I can't do without knowing for sure if it's possible.

Right lol he thinks we're all dummies 😉 I've imported and exported Cars and Trucks overseas and yes the papers list a million things but there not ALL charges and most are minimal Like the MPF if the value is Below $2500 is only 2$ up to 9$ lol Duty from China to U.S is UNDER 20% On a $1200 Car what's that lol so u can list all those fees all day they are tiny tiny amounts these guys are smart and Makin a killing off these. Good For Them the cost of Shipping is gona be by weight $200 per 500 lbs and all the rest of the cost is based on the PRICE of the electric vehicle so at $900 or even $2000 insurance is $50 port fees maybe $50-$100 Customs and Declaration Fees and Taxes won't total more then 17% of the price of the Vehicle on a $900 Car I'd be surprised if it even came near $2000 for EVERYTHING on a $2200 (the Truck) not even $4000 for Everything. all the costs are gona be $9 + $50 +$26 + $374 for (taxes customs declaration) + etc etc of course it's just the Hassle that's the worst part its gona take about 45 days for you to receive it at ur door that's all so if u want the vehicle hassle free and dont want to wait (or risk delays which happen often on lg shipments from China, theyre Famous for losing things, unloading in wrong Countries etc lol not even kidding so ur 45 days could be 5 months) then of course buying it when it's Already in America it your best bet.
BINGO...But the insurance companies and car, and truck factories would have a fit! (you would not have to pay an evil amount of money for their cars, and trucks!)

It’s rated at 25, we have seen 28 a few times who knows tail wind, slight down hill . But it is rated with a top speed of 25 mph

One of my concerns is aftermarket support and the warranty. One Y Tuber did a review on a ev utv he bought through a dealer here in the U.S. The manufacturer were hard to deal with on warranty and replacement parts. He had issues which resulted in his vehicle being the dealer's shop for 3 out of twelve months. The manufacturer just about demanded return of the defective parts so they could determine the issue and before they would send replacement parts. The customer hard to intercede between the dealer and the manufacturer just to get the manufacturer to agree to the return of the defective parts, and then cover the labor costs. To me if the supply chain of parts and a system to ensure repairs are not possible, why would you want to buy an ev from China? Until either the Chinese manufacturers realize they must have a parts and repair system set up, and back up their warranty's, they have closed themselves out of the U.S. market. The other issue is the variety of state and federal regulations that govern these vehicles. In some states these are viewed as low power vehicles and require no licensing or registration, in others they do. In some they are street legal and in others off road use only. Then there is the issues of DoT and NHSTA. As you pointed out the Changli's you order in have auto safety glass, and this doesn't even address other safety issues (seat belts, air bags, etc)
They are made for the Chinese market originally. Unless u have a full service an parts backup , like E.I.E.. Its gonna cost u thousands of dollars......

Are these even street legal? It’s just a golf cart with a fancy shell. I mean if your a rich guy in a gated neighborhood I see the desire to have the fanciest golf cart in the country club. But outside of that and maybe for those who do maintenance at the courses what’s the point? 40kmh top speed and lousy 80-100km range with a 5hr charge time? I modified my kids power wheels to take two de Walt drill batteries and it will outrun these “cars”. The shipping is triple the cost of the thing and with only 10 month battery warranty it’s nothing but a trinket to show off how much disposable income you have.

These schip by sea so if You order one then You have to add shipping kost from China to the harbor then arbor costs Tax and transport to Your house . Do note, NOT in Europe allowed. First crash test needed. Chinese VIN numbers are not allowed in Europe.
