Glad to see attempts to get back to something like that. Something to haul mulch, some bags of gravel, equipment etc. for the weekend home improvements. Also some local light trailer hauling. This truck looks to fit that bill. If Maverick gets issued as a BEV or even a decent PHEV, it is right in there. I like the RADAR AWD for my small boat launching at the ramp.

    1. Height adjustable suspension-low profile in urban and highway for aero purposes, at least 13 inches ground clearance for off road

Being Australian myself and a pretty keen follower of electric car development i think this particular car can herald a pretty big shift in Australian opinion.
Cheap, great range, great performance, looks good and nice inside - all these hallmarks are what will get approval for buyers here. More charging points are being installed every day around the country, in regional and rural areas especially, so that 600 km range will be a reliable (and strong) selling point.
It needs to be reliable though, as well as practical enough. What do i mean by enough? Enough is, being able to load the tray up with stuff and move it. It will need to be able to carry a lot of weight, i'd say up to 7-800 kilos to sell, 1 tonne to be impressive. Below 500 kilos will hamper its reputation though.
The interior fit and finish needs to be "good enough" but two things that must be excellent is a) the seats need to NOT be hot and trap heat (like vegan leather does) and b) a great air conditioning system. I imagine for the US market a good heater as well would be needed.
If it can tow a trailer, say 1,600 kilos of braked towing capacity, or maybe 2.5 tonnes or upwards and it will be a solid offering.
I'm in the market for a new ute too so... come on guys!

The towing capacity and range are at odds in an EV ute. Unless the energy density of batteries can be improved I just can't see how diesel utes can be replaced.
I would love to convert my Ute to electric but from what I can see the vehicles that might do that will be super heavy just to get the range, which means goodbye towing capacity, unless they use something like lithium sulphur batteries and give back some of the weight as towing capacity. These batteries are still in gestation in the magical baby battery growing labs.

As someone who has never owned anything except "the smallest city cars" but frequents hardware stores, this looks like a ridiculously good offer.
Even if the range on the base model is a tad lower than 500km, $25k is just ridiculously cheap. For the Netherlands, a smaller "crossover" pickup is ideal -- We have no mountains/offroad anyway, and our streets & parking spaces are too tiny to fit regular pickups. Really hoping these will be distributed worldwide!

@@americanrambler4972 Mounting cargo containers on the front wheel of a bike is a bad idea. Decades ago as a teenager I had a "cargo" basket on the handlebars of my regular bike and it was a PITA. When loaded the extra weight makes it difficult to steer and balance, inhibits any fast response to road hazards or perturbations, items can easily be ejected from rapid handlebar movements and is of limited capacity. Much better to mount cargo behind the seat - avoids all the aforementioned problems. Especially on a three wheeled bike which jut begs for a large cargo container between the two back wheels.

That front overhang is a bit scary. In the 4x4 world that is measured as approach angle and it needs to higher. Rims are fine, but needs a bit more sidewall for construction sites and mild off highway work with a load. Bulgier 70 series "All Road" tires with min 3 ply sidewalls (rocks & curbs) would be the norm over here in the USA. And I certainly hope it comes our way 😊

@@jeffp3999 Fingers crossed we get a ‘(Ford) Lightning’ culture moment like the Americans did at one point. This might not be a Toyota but if it certainly looks the part in terms of a ‘regular trusty old ute’, the big question is if it can live up to the ‘trusty’ part of that and if it does the job but if it can, things could really look up.
Also it has regular power points you don’t need adapters for! Very nice. I think Rivian just has the cigarette lighters or something, unless I’ve missed something somewhere, which given the Ford Lightning in comparison seems like a massive missed opportunity so glad this company went the more practical route. Also hopefully Rivian follows their lead at some point.
Although I will add my request for higher clearance particularly with the weather damage lately with all the rain and flooding in some areas or just general road maintenance issues. Or maybe they could have a higher clearance option? So people could choose between clearance with a little bit of range loss vs overall range, whatever the calculation is, depending on their needs.
I’ve seen a comment recently about someone swapping to more robust tyres on an EV and being happy to take the slight drop in range for the trade of. The conversation for people new to EVs is very much about range but the Model Y is doing amazingly and it has slightly lower range than the Model 3 so people are willing to sacrifice range for other things they consider important once they have the decision in front of them in a way they understand. I’m thinking in the future ground clearance could be the same.

I would be interested in hearing opinions regarding how pickups, and to a somewhat lesser extent SUVs became so massively dominant at least in North America. When the corporate fuel efficiency rules (CAFE) were first being implemented, they applied only to cars and not pickups. Likewise safety rules generally did not apply to trucks. This tended to lower the costs of pickups and their close cousin the SUV. Some people did not like the lower power cars and did not care about fuel economy so the pickup truck was ideal as big engines and loads of space, towing capacity, and off-road capability were more attractive features. Fast forward to the 2020's and we see Ford all but abandoning automobiles for EVs and particularly truck/SUV EVs. Fascinating.
