    Nice vid; I also loathe the push pads as I've had them slide and lose grip which only makes me paranoid around those blades. This is a great alternative, I'ma have to throw one of these together !

      It only took a few hours to build and a lot of that was waiting on glue to dry. I've already used it several times and I love it, I have a lot more control with it. Thanks for watching and for the sub!

    If you’re looking for alternatives, Michael Fortune has amazing jointer push blocks. You can see them hanging near his jointers on a pillar. They’re bright orange.

    I have to ask one question, and that is hy you call this machine a Jointer. It is a mechanised version of a very old hand tool called a Jack Plane, so it's a 'Planer' or, as we called it in high school, a Buzzer Planer
    It certainly does not make any 'Joints'

    • @CaddoCreekWoodworks
      @CaddoCreekWoodworks  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      You are correct but that's typically how it is referred to here in the US. And a better name for the planer is a thicknesser. But, when in Rome...

    Don't be too self-critical about your drawing or sketching skills, those mud-maps are just about getting your ideas onto paper to be able to refer back to later on.
    The only time i try to do an accurate drawing is when I am figuring cutting up a new sheet of board for my latest project

    Thanks for the video. I also hate my push pads that came with my jointer. One question though. Why bother with the shellac for a shop tool? My table saw push blocks are raw wood and perform just fine. I'll admit though that I made them from white cedar, not plywood. Would that be the reason, plywood splinters?

    • @CaddoCreekWoodworks
      @CaddoCreekWoodworks  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Yes, I did it to keep the plywood from de-laminating over time and to keep it from splintering. But also, I saw a video of someone who said he tries to stain or paint his shop built items because if he's going to be out there using it, it might as well look nice! Thanks for watching!

    Sorry to rain on your parade but you dont understand how to joint boards. You start with the pressure on the infeed table but as the board becomes stable then the majority of the weight moves to the out feed table. Dependent on the board, if you keep tòo much pressure on the rear of the board the front can rise up and you will never achieve a flat surface. Two push pads are essential so you can transfer the pressure.

    • @CaddoCreekWoodworks
      @CaddoCreekWoodworks  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes, this is true. The transfer of weight from one surface of the jointer to the other is required to keep the board flat. Proper technique is required to get a flat board, which is one reason I made it so long. It is useful to use a known straight edge or a dead flat surface (such as a cast iron table saw top) to make sure you are getting flat boards. Thanks for pointing that out, and thanks for watching!
