      Thanks brother! Yes I am absolutely amazed by this thing and have been playing it a lot. When I do worship leading in future this might just be my new go-to honestly. Acoustic guitars lend themselves well to worship but I don't like playing them as much as electrics. I prefer the lower action and electric strings etc. This is like the perfect fusion - all the warmth and acoustic clarity with the ease of electric playability and tones. And the looks... Like jaw dropping and yet not overstated - very classy.
      And yes O Brother is one of my favorite films and soundtracks!!! "I am a man... Of constant sorrow!!!!"

    Great video. I have the IJZ 300 TB (Tobacco Burst). It has the same style inlays as yours. I cleaned the inlays with metal polish and cotton swabs. Then lubricated the fretboard. The inlays really came to life. Amazing 3D affect. As far as fit and finish, virtually flawless. It's a smaller, thinner body semi hollow. It was on sale for $149. I had to check it out. Glad I did. Glad you did. Looking forward to the follow up video for this one. The only real downside to mine is that the Destiny pickups are a bit dark for this style of guitar. They do handle distortion well though. I'm not going to change them out, but that my be an option for others.

      @@thehobbyguy4me oh no! That's tragic. It is always a gamble shipping guitars. When I ship I am OCD about packing, but the manufacture boxing is much riskier. I tend to buy on Amazon and Reverb for their protections. Ebay is a little riskier. Amazon does super fast refunds too. I got a partial refund on this because it has minor shipping damage and it was like a few hours to clear.
      Let me know if you need any tips doing the kit build. What sort of kit did you get?

      @@TheRevDr I did buy off of Amazon. After some bad things with eBay, I no longer will use them.
      I was just told I got the refund today. They told me yesterday that I would not get one until the end of the month into Jan. So I was glad to see I got the refund today.
      I got HB2 Hallow Body off of Amazon. It's the same body shape as the 500. I bought all new hardware for it along with new pickups. Should be a fun thing to do! I used to build " Kustom Guitars” And have put together a few kit guitars.
      At one time I had a few Jazz guitars and over time I sold them off. So I thought I would get another one. I was heartbroken that the 500 had a bad neck. I could have fixed it, but Amazon did not give me an option to give me a discount. Otherwise, I would have kept it.

    This is not like a byrdland. The byrdland is from the "Thinline Series" which makes the body about the same thickness as an ES-335. And the Byrdland has a 23-1/2" scale length.

    • @TheRevDr

    • @jfinester
      @jfinester 18 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      @@TheRevDrNope. The ES-5 was the same size as the L5-CES. The Byrdland had the thin body and the short scale, but otherwise it was trimmed like the L5. There was also a less-fancy version of the Byrdland, called the ES-350T, for “thin body”, but they didn’t come any other way. Chuck Berry played one for a few years in the 1950s.

    • @TheRevDr
      @TheRevDr  18 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @jfinester I thought the ES5 still had the full acoustic thickness... Which model am I thinking of then? I readily admit I don't have a lot of experience with Gibsons in general and that era in particular, always happy to learn more. My knowledge on this is mainly from browsing forums (not always reliable) and searching listings on Reverb etc. Thanks for the clarifications. If you have a moment can you indicate the image I have as an ES5 which shows the full 4" thickness (it has triple pickups and the Venetian body cut). It's around six minutes in.

    They'll feedback clean too. I took my L-7 on a ballroom gig where I thought I would be straight rhythym. The keyboard player didn't show so I had to play melody to spell the sax player. Was fighting feedback all night.That's why they added the center block.

    • @TheRevDr
      @TheRevDr  18 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Yes absolutely, the center block cuts a lot of the problems out. Proximity to speakers is a huge problem with hollow electrics, less with semis and much less with solids. Thanks for the great comments 👍

    Beautiful guitar! I get it now. Not really a copy but still really close to a Byrdland. I’ve been researching the hollowbody for a couple months now and I can’t decide between it or a semi-hollow. I primarily lead worship live on acoustic guitar, but I want the playability of an electric. What worries me about the hollowbody is that feedback. Which do you think would be more versatile but still gives that acoustic like tone?

    • @TheRevDr
      @TheRevDr  12 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      Hey Ryan! It would largely depend on your setup and style. I assume you aren't using a lot of distortion or effects which are the main problems for feedback. The full hollow has more acoustic output and that warmer tone but the semis are more versatile and less prone to feedback. When I get back into worship leading I plan to use this one as a primary go to. As long as you can keep the feedback in check it's got such amazing tone it gives the acoustic vibe while having true electric setup.
      Also there are "hybrid" guitars that incorporate a piezo in addition to passive electric pickups. Michael Kelly is well known for their Hybrid Special. I have one of their lesser known strat style hybrids, very cool guitar. Doesn't have the unplugged output of a real acoustic but still gives that warmth and twang, so that might be an option to consider as well.

      @ thanks for the feedback. I’ve been looking at the Gretsch 2420 and 2622. They seem to have great tones and coil-splitting. Reminds me of a telecaster like tone. I’m curious if one could get the same tones with a low end tele?

      Yes absolutely, they were doubly thin lined (the L series was thinner than full acoustic and they were even thinner still). The scale is shorter too, 23.75, though I did end up changing mine to the Byrdland shorter scale after shooting the video bc this has a floating acoustic style bridge that was easy to adjust for shorter scale length.
