      I keep getting that about that mark and cod, one guy told me there never used to be any rays there. Funny how things change. Tight lines

    It's ace when the rays are on the feed like that. Have sessions like that quite regular here. If you want to join up with me I fish for huss often on Anglesey. Great vid again🐟🎣

    Spent many a cold winters night there 😂
    Used to be a mecca for cod fishing back in the 70's and 80's but not many now.
    Dogs a plenty tho 🤦🏻‍♂️

    Hey Nathan , another great video from you. I have no intention of teaching my grandmother to suck eggs ( Whatever that means), but we catch loads of thornbacks here in the rivers and estuaries of Essex. The main thing to get your head around is that the shape of these fish means that when they settle on your bait their wings and tails very often hit the main line giving you a line bite. We tend to leave them for a few minutes and just wind into them. Anyway forgive my interference and keep up the good work, you are always worth watching.

    Great video mate,, I'm from Northern Ireland, but fish regularly in Co.Kerry,,, Bass, Rays are abundance also. We caught a Ray and it was tagged, so we sent the tag of to fisheries ireland, they sent us back a pack with thirty, a twenty euro checque and information on where the fish ha been.... Class!,, get yourself over to Cork and Kerry for a holiday,,, you will love it as much as the Guinness. .

    Unbelievable episode! It wasn’t raining, snowing or blowing a gale. No tackle losses. A shed load of the target species and most unbelievable of all this top angler has only ever caught 3 dogfish! Obviously never fished on the south coast.

    A great watch. Not many anglers realise the potential with ray fishing. They shoal and can be caught in big numbers if you're in the right spot at the right time. One hundred pound of fish on a tide is a realistic target with two rods. You had a good weight on your fist try so I hope you hit this mark again.

    • @SlippyLimpets
      @SlippyLimpets  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hard to imagine how many fish could be swimming around there. Just need a double now. The rod is great, it's like a continental rod (15ft), in terms of bite detection but with plenty of grunt like a 13-14ft rod. Tight lines👍🎣

  • @Joe_L1c
    @Joe_L1c ปีที่แล้ว +2

    That was a great session 👏, I love catching rays and I don't mind the dogfish either although they can become a real nuisance when there's hundreds of them around, on the holderness we catch mainly thornback but you do get the occasional spotted and blonde ray aswel

    • @SlippyLimpets
      @SlippyLimpets  ปีที่แล้ว

      They're a great species to look at, similar to wrasse with the different patterns and colours. Not much of a fighting fish, but that could have been because I was in deep water

    Great video mate. Those missed fish are the exact reason I won't go to the dongle, I can't get my head around taking a hook away from the bottom of the bait. Though I can see the benefits of using when fishing for Smooth Hounds that 90% of the time fall to the pennel hook.
    Really enjoy your videos as always.

    • @SlippyLimpets
      @SlippyLimpets  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Think I missed them because I lifted in too early, after waiting a bit longer I didn't miss any. I've used it again and didn't miss a fish and none of them were deep hooked. The big test will be the cod this coming winter. Glad you liked the vid and tight lines👍🎣

    Sometimes days like this really test your back 😂, fishing in the Bristol channel with the current and even a small swell you will get doggies that will pull a 7oz lead right out the feel like a dead weight cod of 5 or 6lb until it breaks the water its a killer sometimes.

  • @Allyby58

    You might want to think about getting out on a Boat up at Oban, fishing for Common Skate, the best man to contact is Ronnie Campbell and charter his boat the Laura Dawn, you fish in a depth of about 400ft and use whole Mackrell and Squid for bait, I got one at 147 lbs but I believe the record is 238 lbs, it's an eight hour trip and a great day out but you,ll need about six folk. Should be about a five hour drive up for you but it,s an experiance not to be forgotten,

Still think all that tackle will crunch my knee so I’ll only ever be catching rays vicariously with you. Bring on the return of the pollock! Gonna try MOGarea or up near Oban this weds/thurs just for a wee explore; Kip in car overnight if it’s going well. School hols = freedom! Skye again on 13/14th. I’m itching to get out. Aye, it was good to get them ticked off. The mark was great and popular for a reason, not really my type of place mainly because of the number of rods.
