Kozub is the greatest Bacchus of all. Listen to those thrilling "Circe, Circe" outbursts at 2:15, I've never heard a tenor negotiate this music with such a sense of reserve, power and beauty of tone. What a great artist. I've gotten my hands of pretty much everything available. Hopefully more live performances will surface.

+michsturge He cops out on "und mich". Too bad. Check out Rosvaenge or Lorenz. I admit that Kozub was one of the greatest tenors of the century. His final notes here are magnificent.

@@walterbenjamin1386 James King does the exact same thing in one of his live performances, so... I wonder if this is a variant in the score which tenors sometimes used to save the thrill of the high note at the very end? th-cam.com/video/57F9bAbtE2o/w-d-xo.html

@@walterbenjamin1386 Guys, Kozub was not “copping out”! Take a look at the score . The notes in question are written exactly as Kozub sings them, NOT the Roswänge way. Check for yourself at Rehearsal 322 of the score. Some tenors do the “tenorismo” thing there and follow the violin part, but it’s not what Strauss wrote. Don’t fault the tenor for singing the correct notes-and the conductor has some say in the matter, too!
