If I was a dad, I wouldn't mind this. It would be reasonable to introduce my son to the doom franchise in a slow and steady, yet reasonable pace. I would start by easing him in with Mighty Doom. E1M1 never dies, no matter how many times it gets redone, the original will always live on, but that doesn't stop the new ones from being good. But still, there is always Ole reliable.
