Yes, I discovered early on that double tracking two fiddles on a recording is a great way to add an extra kick after the first 32 bars. I try to use two different fiddles, with different tonal qualities and don't worry about mistakes on the second take, as that makes it sound more like two different players at a session.

Yes, there is a pick up note at the beginnng, which is an open D, then I play the E twice (1st finger position on the D string in this key of D). The first E note is held slightly longer than the second much shorter E note.
