Longwood Gardens, visited by me several times in different years, then Nemours, Winterthur, each of them visited more than once. Thanks for this review.
I've been to all of them. I was so taken by Montpelier as it was not restored yet and the debate was still in question as to what era it should be restored - Madison or DuPont. It was so facinating to see pencil marks on the walls depicting original Madison features and then walking into the Marion DuPont kitchen. A true adventure for my children and myself.
At the beginning of the Nemours segment, that's not a picture of Alfred I Dupont (1864 - 1935). That's his grandfather Alfred V. Dupont (1798 - 1856). You also realize that the same room is shown as being in both Nemours and Winterthur, don't you? Francis was considered crazy to waste his money on "old junk" when he started to collect Early American furniture and decorative arts to create his museum. They're now worth a large fortune. It's a weird house because many windows are in odd places to accommodate where they are in the old rooms that he purchased for the mansion. One of his daughters said that growing up in Winterthur was not fun because it was "Don't touch" "Don't sit on that" and so on. What do you mean by the "no longer extant" Italian water garden at Longwood? It's closed for the season, but still extant. I've toured all four of these estates. Montpelier was derelict, but still had the Dupont additions that have since been demolished to bring the house back to Madison's time. I've read that the Art Deco lounge (only room that was furnished and in good condition at the time) was saved and moved to another building on the property. BTW: Marian's name of Scott was from her short marriage to actor Randolph Scott. Nemours was my favorite as an estate. Winterthur was always intended as a museum by Francis. Longwood is really just the gardens (not much of a house). Montpelier was derelict and about to be returned to its colonial size and look. There is one other Dupont Brandywine Valley home that I have toured: Eleutherian Mills (within the original powder mill complex).
I lived in Atherton, CA! The DuPonts had an estate in Atherton on Atherton Avenue near the intersection with Mercedes Lane!! Can you do a video on this DuPont Estate in the City of Atherton, CA., PLEASE? 🙏🏽👍🏽❤️
Have you visited any of these Dupont family mansions - and, which is your favorite?
I've been to Nemours during the garden restoration. Largest French gardens in the USA. Also to Winterthur and Longwood gardens

Had no idea any of the Du Pont mansions were even still around - nice to see they're still there!

What about Liseter Hall Farm also known as Foxcatcher farm?
Is this the same DuPont that murdered a lot of people in WV with Chemicals?
Yes.
