- (Webinar) Rigorous research and ethical research are two sides of the same coin, and are mutually interdependent. Ethics in qualitative research is concerned with the shared principles that qualitative researchers purport to uphold that guide our behavior in the field and our interactions with research participants. Ethics addresses the protection of human participants in research, including issues of confidentiality, privacy, anonymity, advocacy, and human dignity. Qualitative research is, at its core, about sharing, respecting, and most importantly authentically and ethically representing diverse voices. You may be asking yourself how researchers can prepare to respond appropriately to arising ethical research issues during the conduct of research? When you write a well-articulated research proposal, you have , yet anticipating all the ethical issues that might arise unexpectedly along the way is unlikely. The challenge, therefore, is that you will need to be prepared to respond appropriately throughout the research process. You will also need to indicate in your dissertation how and when you addressed all relevant ethical issues.
