Hey kingjae, I want to tell you that your partly responsible for helping my nephew who I adopted. He is autistic and he had motorcontol issues as a little boy. The Dr gave him these boring Dexterity workouts. I pulled out the arcade stick and made him do combos (I have his first combo on my channel) he saw your t7 how to play videos and said he wanted to play tekken "to do cool stuff like kingjea" you helped him learn the game. He went back to the Dr 6 months later and the Dr couldn't believe how his Dexterity improved, he asked me what I did, I said fighting games. The kid has had a very rough life but he felt so proud of himself over coming everything. I m not going to lie it made me cry. Fighting games helped his quality of life so much. All the quick decisions and Dexterity it takes helped him even in school he is now out of special Ed and doesn't have any Dexterity problems or fine motorcontol problems..we watch your videos together and it's brought us very close. Thanks man, TH-camrs get alot of crap but, here is my testimony telling everyone you helped my kid. Thank you keep up the good work. My kid has a very amazing story to tell he has been though more tough stuff most people that are grown havnt seen or been through what he has. It's amazing seeing something that brings joy to him he really needed something and he found it in tekken and your videos.
Tekken 7 became popular by the competitive scene alone, and T8 is selling because of it.
Now when it’s a bigger game they try to target casuals and give them tons of 50/50 tools so casuals always have some chance of getting a win.
They have forgotten why people love Tekken, which is the competitive scene and there’s a lot of noise fighting against that.
Its such a shame that theyre going so hard for casual players by breaking the skill system in tekken. Most casuals will drop the game after a month or theyll stop playing because when they get higher up and people start spamming them with the same mixups that theyve used, theyll quit. I got into tekken because i when i a saw a move that fucked me up i searched ot up and figured out that there is something i can do other than guess. Taking that aspect of the game away is just a stupid decision. Also, the ft2 makes people detached from the game, you dont ever really get invested in a matchup you just get a rush from winning or annoyed from losing, but you dont learn how to play against specific flowcharts. We know that we could lab certain things, but casuals dont know that. They're just gonna get blown up, get annoyed, and quit. I dont get who they're making this game for it seems like they missed the mark on everything trying to appeal to a player base that they dont understand.
The game isn't even for casuals. I'm casual and I don't even want to play the game anymore.

In all honesty, I only play for Zafina as I enjoy her gameplay. Everything is expensive, battle pass rewards are lousy (free and premium), online is getting worse day by day. Tekken Ball is a huge miss, so is Arcade.
Super Ghost battles are not getting updates as people don't care about them.

I pretty much have done EVERYTHING ELSE & all i wanna do is rank up & i can't even do that because of how bad it is. 🤦♂️🤦♂️

Tekken views are definitely down. 1 to 4k max lately. Sf6 20k and up. Even mk1 10k and up recently. Tekken going in the wrong direction
Well it says a lot when me a big Tekken nerd left T8, then got back in 7 , wanted to try something new and bought Sf and had a blast... It's not a perfect game or balanced, but is way better than Tekken... So I'm not really surprised.
1:29:23 Well yeah man, they’re trying to be like Virtua Figher. Throws also track in Virtua Fighter but that’s part of the VF meta.
They’re trying to copy VF without utilizing the same system and the worst thing they could have done is give King a running throw and allow him to do it in Tekken 8. It completely locks you down. And don’t get me started on the fact King has a low crushing power crush.
In Tekken some throws connect before attacks. In Virtua Fighter if someone attacks, their attack beats your throw everytime. It’s built into the system.
Tekken needs to quit trying to copy VF and SF and just be it’s own game.
I still wonder if any Tekken game had Rock-Paper-Scissors consistently implemented in its battle system across all characters and how well it worked.

Seiichi Ishii was the game designer who left SEGA’s Virtua Fighter team and helped design Tekken 1 & 2. Even though he was on the design team and not a programmer, it may be worth looking into that system.
The oldest Tekken I own is Tekken 3 though. Yeah we have access to Tekken 1 and Tekken 2 on the Tekken 5 disc but that disc only works if I get lucky 😂
Although those things are in VF, I'm more inclined to say that these things being implemented are more likely due to the Soul Calibur team working on Tekken 8.
SC also has grabs that track, and in SC6 they added one of the most embarrassing 50/50 mechanics in a fighting game called the reversal edge. Armored move that beats practically everything and puts both players into a literal rock, paper, scissors cut scene stand off (avoided only by 8 way movement aka side step).
You also had soul charge which activates a powered up version of your character with improved/new abilities for a limited amount of time (meter drains). It also has push back, plus on block as well as armor. And surprise surprise, if you do soul charge outside of range of the opponent, they can punish you for it.
You can use the soul charge meter for more power and new abilities, or use the whole bar in one go for a very powerful super/rage art like move. Soul Calibur also has many moves that gives huge frame advantages, allowing for a very oppressive game style, but at least it is balanced with the guard impact system (like a parry). Yoshi in T8 also got quite a few moves from his SC counterpart.
SC6 was a travesty, and an insult to older SC games.

I didn’t know grabs tracked in SC though, but what you’re saying makes sense.
Mike is spitting here. I don't think Jae really understands that Bamco is the one making a lot of these decisions, while they don't obviously control balancing they definitely have an input on the idea to "simplify" the game for casuals and they definitely are the ones responsibly for the monetization ideas. Jae giving them way too much benefit of doubt when Bamco controls so many live service and franchises to games (dragon ball and almost every other major anime game) and they have a crap ton of F2P mobile games. You're fooling yourself if you don't think the predatory monetization is not heavily influenced by them on purpose. They're a multimillion dollar corporation; they have a crapton of experience doing these thing and they literally hire people just for monetization.
I think he does understand, but he ain’t trying to be blacklisted by Bamco. Politics at its finest.

King Jae is right. This game is totally rushed. Namco is obviously so frustrated that they don't want Capcom to steal the spotlight so they decided to release this game without caring about the issue. It's actually obvious with those marketing they made before the release
It’s funny King Jae mentioned Lars because yesterday I was playing ranked and made it to Fujin. I played vs a Raijin Lars player and he kept spamming those sliding attacks and even when I sidestepped the first move the follow up moves always tracked which is just dumb that Harada nem think that should be in the game, as well as King being allowed to block after he enters that running stance.
If you miss an attack from opponent making the right read and sidestepping your attack, no character in the game should have a follow up attack that turns the character in the direction of the opponent and allow for the string to continue and with Lars it isn’t just that one if he continues to slide attack string it will continue to track you sidestepping. Win or Lose I don’t run back no matches vs Lars because that character is brain dead 🧠 Dragunov and Eddy Gordo gets the same treatment F those characters 😂

The ball is just a customization item but the really insulting part if you know anything about 3d modeling at all is that every single Fin 3d modeling app by default gives you default geometric shapes to work with because that's generally where people start. You start with basic shapes and use those to build up more complex ones before getting to sculpting. They freaking added the basic sphere that requires zero work to do in any modeling app and put in in the game under premium for money. Scumbag behavior at it's finest. It's the gaming equivalent of opening on Microsoft word and opening a new blank document. Then saving it and having the gall to sell that to people for money. They are just hoping the avg person doesn't know any better.
bruuuuh you're both going to EVO Japan? That's mad, I hope I can one day get over my crippling fear of travel and flying and go over to Japan (having a 3rd world salary doesn't help). Like I've watched a bunch of t8 videos from hollow, so i feel like I know him. And I like him a lot, so it's like hanging around for a few hours with a friend.

The game isn't even close to dying ppl trip too much.
DOA6 went F2P weeks after release, 4 short seasons lasting 3 months with $90+ each(most of the content were skin and 2 characters, & the final straw was changing for hair colors.
Nah, Tekken is now too big to fail, like Street fighter. I do understand what you're saying but I just don't see it happening, as frustrating as the game can be.
@@RationalMinded if SFV survived I'm sure Tekken with a larger casual player base definitely can. Then casuals will get the battle pass and not care about patches that break super niche combo routes. They'll just enjoy the game.
The game won’t die. People were complaining just like this when T7 dropped. This is usually the cycle.
I enjoy the game, for me half the time its still tekken. But also half the time it feels like you cant do anything. Even offense is a nobrainer sometimes. I agree if they remove a BUNCH of plusframes the game will open up much more.
For me, i was told in t7 that i needed to work on my defenses,like back dashing and sidestepping. In this game it feels like it was all for naught, i can pick jun and hit random buttons and the character plays for me. So when i face these characters YOU HAVE TO play aggressive if not you'll lose there are no other playstyles. The only playstyles archetype is straight up aggression
The fact that you set the standard with the last game and Bamco now wants to charge you for costumes that where in the last game...F them we need to call out ALL the bs including the predatory psychological shop practices.
Tekken 8 is my first fighter, ever.
I came from FPS games/Mobas, and let me tell you about casual catering, i quit playing them because of casual catering.
Tekken 8 is no where near, and down to its core mechanics, can never be a casual friendly game.
The Heat/Heat Smash/Armor for SURE give some shortcuts, but the game is still very rewardable to the better player.
My point is, you guys have a great game still, the casual appeal changes aren't even close to what it could of been, and the games core values exist.
I think people moved on to other games. Until they properly patch the game it’s best not to stress over how bad it is and get into arguments with people.
Okay, so I'm a bit of an oddball. I hate playing games online, no matter the genre. I love fighting games, but I love playing arcade mode by myself or offline with friends. Tekken is one of the few exceptions where I play online SOMETIMES. It's still a rare occurrence, despite me spending hundreds of hours on them. Now with the Tekken Shop and the Fight Pass it looked like they went for the same model Street Fighter 6 does. So I actually bought the premium pass. It was my first time buying one or even really interacting with battle passes, so I might actually get my money's worth since I play T8 a lot. But unlike Street Fighter, playing offline doesn't advance the battle pass! So for the last week I was forced to play in a way I don't like, because I don't want to have wasted that money. That the rewards aren't the greatest is just the icing on the cake. So yeah, unless the rewards become the coolest stuff I've ever seen, they won't get more money on that from me.
Damn i hit the "why am i doing this?" Last night, i still want to play but i just feel like I'm not learning when im fighting drag->jun->azu rotation constantly.

I bought all the Tekkens since Tekken 1 (all except Teken 4), and ive been playing a lot in all of them, but i have never got this casual about a Tekken game before. For me, this is just a tell tale sign, there is no soul in this game atm, and that makes me sad, because i want to play some god damn Tekken! XD
After finishing the ranked set. The rematch button should turn into a "keep playing for fun" button and you instantly rematch into a game for no points
I understand balancing a game can't only be around the 1 percent of players. World of Warcraft Retail is a great example of why you shouldn't do that. But ffs, let's have more defensive viability. people still saying Panda is a waste of a slot as if the slots are limited. They can make as many slots as they want. Even if they removed panda , there wont be another character replacing it. Panda's is always in the game is because its easy to make, its just Kuma with additional move. It caters to the few panda players that exist and they get their character. It feels like the ppl complaining to these are the players that havent got their character and blaming it on panda. when in reality it doesnt matter

11:30 it should be noted Yoshi can only recover health up to the point any other can, but he just has tools to do it faster and be vulnerable in that moment. In every previous tekken he was able to recover as much health has he wanted while his opponent back dashed like a scared biotch to the other side of the map. YouComeToMetsu.

This is the video that we need to listen unlike from Max's video about the patch surgarcoating this game too much and even said that SF6 is dead while the Steam count is in 24k while in Tekken 8 it went down to 12k a day lol.
If they put tekken 4-6 on tekken shop id honestly have to buy that. Especially if they could retrofit with online
Great podcast guys, good to see some takes from some UK lads. I mostly align more with Mike, but there is definitely still hope for Tekken 8.
Not gonna lie....I am a casual and it is a lot. I picked up on some things....but the fact that heat takes away my flow is nuts. I could be doing just fine; but when heat is popped from some character with crazy heat moves......all hell breaks loose. I even feel like neutral is gone. I am a casual so maybe the whole neutral game being lost is just me.
So Dead or Alive did this exact trickle effect. Doa4 and DoAU2 especially , didn't hold back on content. Itagaki is forced out and now DoA5 and the even worse DoA6 just give limited cosmetics with a few recolors. Then sell $100 costume season passes. 🙄
They also removed tag from 6.
DoA for me is like DBZ to others. I grew up with it and it hurts my soul to see it get the treatment it gets.
I remember getting onto tekken 7 in 2020, watching massiveZugs video on Tekken being a game that if you put time into it you reap the rewards over time, Tekken was sold to me like an rpg that you level up yourself instead of a character that prises legacy skill.
The promise of legacy skill and proof looking back with a roch catalogue of Tekken game's going back to when I was a kid playing Tekken 1 2,3.
The clarity of punishment, ducking strings, whiff punishment, timing, spacing, keepout, pokes and the importance of df1 and implementation of philosophys. I gradually got better and better and there was never a question as to the rhyme or reason as to how.
I feel this idea of tekken as time = level up was a lie I was sold with tekken 7.
You guys are probably wrong about them selling the older games in the shop. The reason tekken 5 had them was because it was Basically the same console architecture. Its not a simple emulation for the current gen its the same reason why we havent had ports of the older games for pc, i don't think namco are willing to do that much work for the roi. Remember these where complicated generation specific arcade 3D games its a bit of a different Situation to what sf6 are doing in their battle hub
Mike Hollow I agree with everything you said in this video.. Harada and Namco had the microtransaction planned way ahead of Tekken 8 production, and its the principle and business practice that consumers need to be aware of that we are humans and if a person can take an inch of you they will surely for a mile. also I need to add that The broken characters in this game were purposely design to broken to keep new comers to the series, and when new players start to move on from tekken thats when Namco decides to balance the game out, its a form of disrepect to the veterans.. its disheartening to hear that KingJae doesnt see the whole picture of what is happening.
Its gonna be like the bad cycle of MK1. Them working hard on a new character, the character comes out too early and breaks the whole game .
If they want to keto casual they need more casual game modes. No casual will hop on to just play ranked or quick match all day. But they said it's not enough demand for all the fun modes we want
Feng is Average, there is still way more characters better than him, the problem is this game forcing aggressive playstyle on every character, Feng is not an Aggressive character, he is a poking character with evasion, the only thing I agree with you about Feng is that he didn't need certain moves because he was already good, but he is arguably top 10 not 5 imo.
51:00 about that, it was 100% planned from the start cause the golden karate gi you unlock in the battle pass is already in the game but only for males.
They removed from females to give it back to you through battle pass.
im a casual Tekken player, love the game, but i also hate the game. Some characters feel incredibly half baked compared to others, and ever since the shop got added i just played less and less. Also, after the battle pass i just dont have the interest to play.
Supposedly Harada wants more team modes.Give us Tekken Force and a Tekken tag mode that allows players to go solo and be on teams Tag Mode 2 v 2 online Why is this so hard when it isn't ?
the casual fanbases for these fighting games are complete trash, lets not forget these are the same people that destroyed mvc3 or was it ultimate mvc3 sentinel, they all cried on twitter about justin beasting a few scrubs and got a mid tier character nerfed who wasn't even that good, roll on years later and the stink that was dark phoenix and zero completely ruined that game and sentinel was never in there league in the first place, devs need to stay off twitter and listening to these people that do not fully understand what they are saying otherwise you just get cases like mvc3 sentinel which is the biggest joke i can remember and the nerf wasn't even a smart nerf it was just lets just destroy this character by giving him no health! the biggest character in the game who's ment to have huge life because of he's so big it's how the character is designed!!!

Lol, years later when KBR won Evo with Hulk/Sent/Haggar there was a dude who was utterly convinced that it "proved" Sent was top tier and the health nerf was completely necessary.
Everyone is blaming harada but bandi is to blame. Its then that wanted the game yo look better at tournaments so thry made them focus more in offense. Bandia also is the one who wanted the shop, harada isnt the one making the paper off the shop its bandi..go after the company not the maker of tekken.

This randomly hopped into my reccomended and I do love that King Jae's passion for Tekken carries over onto other channels. Tekken 8 is my first game and the battle pass is kinda weird which I wont pay for but I cant dent how much fun I have had with the game.
I think you can beat fangs 3+4 heat earthquake by using the up-back, backwards jump
14:23 The ball is supposed to be like the accessories in soulcalibur 6 where they gave you random shapes so you can be more in depth with customize characters. A lot of things wrong with it though 1. SC6 had more slots for that kinda stuff
2. SC6 had it for free alongside cubes, triangles, etc.

Mike I just wanted to say thanks because I thought you were going to fall into a sadly realistic trap up choosing channel success over being authentic and truthful.
During the deserved dunking of MK1 and the peacemaker update I was afraid you were never going to speak out agaimst bamco for their shady practices like the shop coming out at the time, and while I was annoyed that you didnt intially cover these things, you did speak out and made it clear to bamco and your growing audience that these things do need to be discussed and called out.
The sad truth is that a lot of growing creators in your position *cough cough Phidx* would absolutely decide to never call out bamco for things that are actively harmimg the game if it means their statistics continue to grow and they stay in bamco's good graces which is shameful. It feels like an unspoken rule to me that at a baseline level, you at the bare minimum need to look out for the audience you cultivated and speak out in their best interests, because saying nothing might as well be agreeing with these scumbag practices.
So thanks again, and honestly to hear your 2 cents on the sort of "creator responsibility" debate would be interesting. Maybe theres something im admittetly missing.
Thank you, bro. My only intention with this channel (aside from having fun) is covering things as accurately as possible. I might miss out on some sponsorship deals or being flown out somewhere, but I'd rather not lie. I'll get things wrong and mess up from time to time, but it'll be because I thought I was doing the right thing. Not because a company told me to after tryna rip us off.
Admittedly, Tekken 7 is definitely an easier game.
The universal mechanics are far more generous, in that something as "intermediate" as a low parry can be capitalised on by any player, so long as they understand the sandwich formula of "Starter, extender, ender" for juggles.
You cannot B!/S!/T! after a low parry in Tekken 8, this makes dealing with lows far more demanding for the average player. Unless you have Nina's db2 pseudo screw mechanic.
Some characters can utilise the pseudo screw mechanic, in Tekken 8. Where others simply do not have it.
Some get full combo damage. Others get a pittance.
This makes the whole low parry mechanic far more unbalanced and complicated, compared to Tekken 7.

I feel exactly the same about feng, played him since T5 as well. It used to be rare to run into another feng in previous tekkens, not so much this tekken 😂
i mean, isn't the jaguar sprint thing a little dumb? if you character has an ability that gives the other player literally a free rage art? how's that fair at all
think outside the rage art: if he does that raw in neutral he can just block punish attemps
but shouldn't he be able to? (im not playing king) the move itself does nothing, its like a stance. so every stance should be punishable by itself without using a move? that'd be the logic then

Ok, that blank ball is a Soul Calibur throw over asset from the character customization/creator. I saw it used to recreate male genitalia or large female breasts/buttocks. It has some brilliant uses of this item, but it's just an extra accessory. A dumb item for a battle pass reward for sure. What was Bamco thinking? SMH
