I really admire how SM has given Riize songs that emphasize the members' strengths. Hoping for the same for ZB1 going forward, since most of their title tracks are too high to sing comfortably even with most of the members having good breath support and competent falsetto. Their Run Run cover really showed what they're capable of!
totally agree. i think some of their bsides are getting there ("dear eclipse" on their most recent ep was mostly lower chest voice and falsetto) but even some of their best songs overall (looking at you "take my hand") would be so much better if they were just slightly lower lol

I can't believe how much Gyuvin has improved since BP. He came from being criticized for having just a pretty face to now people in the fandom and outside the fandom praising him for his beautiful vocals in their Run Run cover. He even is showing hints of support, so now his beautiful tone is highlighted even more. I am glad Gyuvin gained more confidence in his singing and dancing. He deserves the respect!
Seeing boynextdoor at last, it actually hurts but my boys are doing so well, they are not just vocalist but all rounders!! Jaehyun and taesan has so much potential....they are already ace.... jaehyun is a good singer, he just need a little control over his voice.....he is still doing good tho!!
This is just an analysis of their vocals, but as artists they are the best performers. I think that's the most important skill, that's why groups like bts become popular.

i am so happy to hear more and more people praising zhang hao for his control over his lower register! combined with his naturally clear tone it makes him one of the most impressive vocalists in 5th gen! can't wait to hear more from him
i love hao's voice! not only is his lower register really strong but his transitions between registers are so smooth. he has kind of a weird falsetto so i don't enjoy that as much but overall he has an incredible range and a really versatile sound!
Sungeon (Evnne) is my favorite vocalist in 5th gen. I was really rooting for him in Boys Planet. His voice is very clear and at the same time, it's raspy. The high notes are not always supported but it's just very satisfying to hear him.
I think he is the most memorable for me because of his unique vocal tone. As you mentioned, he has incredible support and I find his head voice transition so satisfying. He is easily my no.1 pick from the entire list
Tbh I've never seen a group as complete as zb1 and the fact that such a perfect group has come out, with members with insane vocals, ethereal visuals and amazing dancers makes it even more incredible, also the natural chemistry they have, instead of treat each other as a coworker more they treat and supprt eo as family and i love that bc its so natural, its like them find their soulmate in 9 ppl
then you don't really know what kpop is. Because there are many groups like that which far more complete than zb1. I am also a zb1 fan but some of the groups eat them up in every aspect except the visuals and even some of their visuals is because of surgery.
@SonalGupta-el7vv now, cmon, no one is saying their vocals are the best of the best. yes some groups like exo and nct are just as great and complete, but zb1 has something i cant explain. and i say this as someone who has liked exo since 2013 and nct since 2016.

boynextdoor members have always said they believe their strength lies mostly in their performance ability instead of technique, they really excel in performance compared to other groups but this video explained how theyre lacking in technicalities really well

Riize definitely needs more material because sohee’s predebut material showcases more than now. I’d say he has the best agility out of anyone and this video and he supported an a4 predebut. Wonbin too his predebut video showcases his vocals better
so I'm just bout to say something, and it might or might not be completely born out of my head but hear me out. Since Kakao news just popped out the other day, it turns out they are selling SM and we still don't know who's buying it but we'll find out anyways, what's interesting about that is it came to my mind again that Kakao took over SM in february. Since at that time I followed Riize closely (unlike now), I read on twt from some SM closer person (leaker or whatever), that there was a plan to bring Seunghan back then in January/February. Then his return didn't happen, and the person who talked about that plan seemed openly confused, and they said they didn't know what happened and why he's still on hiatus. Other than his hiatus, many people have started questioning Riize's musical direction since Impossible - including me. I, personally, after loving Love 119 so much, think that Kakao themselves literally butchered Riize's first and planned concept in this recent comeback, and that they were responsible for Seunhan's hiatus being prolonged. Riize's music went from a nostalgic sentiment into completely westernizing itself and trying to be sold to western public for some reason - and that very reason might have been Kakao trying to reach western market through SM entertainment. Now that they are finally gone, we might see a different direction in their music (and see someone come back).
ZB1 Zhang Hao is my new favorite vocalist, he can literally sing anything, even songs i dislike, he makes everything sounds perfect, he rights the wrongs
Taerae and Hao is easily my favorite vocal duo of 5th gen. Their voice always compliments each other. I'm so glad this group had such strong vocalists on their wing.

Boynextdoor, are great performers, for me they are the IDOL CODED group. they keep improving and gaining recognition with every comeback and i believe in there skills and believe they gonna overcome there weaknesses precisely

cix only have seunghun who is main vocal level, jongho is the only one in ateez who's main vocal level but taerae is still better than him because he has more ease and better quality over his mid range and G4/G#4 + better lows down till C#3 treasure have relatively shallow vocalists who need to work on their technique more but u could say they're decently stable kiss of life only have belle who is main vocal level and taerae hao > belle while hanbin gunwook matthew > natty and haneul so yes they are the best 4-5th gen boygroup vocally and the groups u listed besides aespa and nmixx are not better than them or at the same level and while i disagree that they're unmatched in the industry vocally i don't think it's that srs because everyone says the same thing about their favs
Idk how to explain it but matt and Ricky make the verses better bcuz of their voices and vibrato, like matt in his part in the bridge of dear eclipse, in bloom or take my hand, and Ricky in melting point and the final part of in bloom and + i LOVE when the company actually uses jiwoong's voice well like in take my hand
while im admittedly not as knowledgeable with vocals, ricky as (said by both taerae and himself ) likes to utilize lay-back where he falls behind the rhythm by a bit so thats why he tends to have a more relaxed groovy style of singing!
at the end of the day zb1's talents will ALWAYS get recognised no matter how much ppl will try to hate on their vocals, they're so far one of the best vocal groups in the last 4 years, and that proven within a year of debut !!

Zhang Hao is one of the best idol I've ever seen. His voice is clear (live/encore) & beautiful, he's also versatile & stable when dancing (rare). With his amazing mindset of his, I'm sure he'll continue to progress as he did with dance. I'm rejoicing to see Yuehua together in one team, I fully love the matching voices of Hao & Seungeon in Jelly pop. I'm sure they'll deliver wonderful performance with a song that fit them. Taerae will do well after ZB1, he has an angelic voice & is made to do OST. I just hope he knows his potential & won't stay with that company
I think 5th gen boy groups are really defining a lot of things for male idols. Voice colors, dance caliber, and visuals are the main things I notice and for vocals, they are bringing back the vocal standards for male idols
i think its bc koz is such a performance and rap based company that they don’t really focus as much on vocals but would love to see bnd improve more on their vocals since they’re so good at other aspects,, great analysis btw loved the video!!

Watching Boys Planet in real time was so amazing! Glad to say Taerae was my 1 pick since episode 1 and even my other picks that didn't make it like Park Hanbin and Seungeon, got to showcase their great vocal skills. Truly a one of a kind show!

It's worth watching boysplanet, it can be considered as, after produce series one of the most successful survival show. & it's also one of the survival show that gave the best line up, Just sucks they debuted under wakeone.
Fact: I don't know if SungHanbin is aware of this or not but he sounds same like NCT Doyoung, I just noticed these I think a month, that's I'm loving his voice, the way I love Doyoung voice. I think he would be happy if he will knew this cuz he loves NCT sunbaenims.
Lee mujin also said that hanbin's vocal really reminded him of nct doyoung, and hanbin said it might because of that he watched nct videos and sing nct songs alot so he kind of influenced by their style You can watch it on sung hanbin's lee mujin service
Boys Planet final line up especially the top trainees really showed that being good looking, entertaining & being talented in vocal & dance can co-exist into 1. This is by far the most honest pick I've seen in any other survival shows where they mostly pick visuals, dancers, kind & entertaining trainees compared to trainees who have it all. I'm way more pleased that they managed to debut good vocalists where music is what they sell here so it only makes sense for this group to have good vocalists.
3:02 as you said SHINYU didn't have many vocal lines in their debut album. but in this comeback, it looks like he took much more parts in vocal than before. He has a calm and warm voice tone rather than a fancy, seasoned one. It would be another pleasure to keep your eyes on SHINYU expanding his spectrum :) Also TWS has tremendous potential to show, and their fresh new album is coming up on June 24th so plz look forward to it :)

Thanks for this balanced and very informative analysis. Every group has so much to show musically and I’m so glad to hear that many of the members have improved over time. I love how RIIZE’s discography highlights their strengths and showcases their harmonies and layers. I also really appreciate ZB1’s strong vocals but somehow it seems like their vocals are at their best when they are doing covers like Start Over, Run Run and Lee Mujin service. Hopefully wakeone selects songs that suit the members well and showcase their talents more!
As someone who loves music and singing very much I personally tend to focus on the vocal + voice quality and the rawness in that voice. And among the 5th gen vocalists I really like Sungho's voice (notice I mentioned voice and not vocals) Reason being if you watch their recording behind the scenes you can observe how much good his raw voice and vocals are, he just needs more vocal training and guidance (which kinda sucks that he's in hybe since they're very business minded and it also really not helps that his group, boynextdoor feel more like a hip-hop/rap kinda group). I also feel like his vocals aren't fully explored and definitely aren't at his full potential too. I hope he finds the right and good guidance cause he has immense potential :)
i love sungho's voice so much too, he has beautiful vocals, he's my bias but i can see that sometimes he struggles with hitting really high notes, but i know when he works and improves his technique, he will be a better vocalist than he's now

No wonder sohee's analysis is so short, they have not fully assessed his vocal ability yet😅. But it's alright, i hope when they do, they will include sohee's predebut materials when he sings in his vocal academy (huh gak song, sofa crush, ballads, perfect ed sheeran, etc) time of our life day6 solo stage, to. X cover. At least i think sohee has big potential with range and vocal control. Plus, especially his low notes, people did not talk about his low notes enough, while i think his low notes has quality and potential to be effortless husky and smooth.

separate comment bc it's a bit of a different subject. re: zb1 i have two thoughts on this analysis. one is that i think jiwoong is a much better vocalist than he is given credit for and is severely underutilized in zb1. in boys planet he didn't get to sing much and worked mostly as a rapper. but he has his own pre-zb1 body of work including a number of OSTs he sung that really showcase his vocal ability, and you can hear it pretty clearly in the run run cover and also in some of zb1's b-sides. alternatively, i think gunwook, while a very good vocalist overall considering he is technically their main rapper, needs some work in his high range. he is very throaty which you can hear clearly in his choppy vibrato. but i think if he had some good training on how to better utilize his diaphragm and lift his damn soft palate (!!!!) he would be honestly unstoppable.
Honestly, when I was creating a video about their potential positions just after their formation, this was one of my concerns about Jiwoong. Given that ZB1’s vocals are already strong, he might have fewer opportunities to showcase his talent. While this would allow other members to shine, it could disadvantage him, as underutilization might hinder his improvement. However, it's important to note that this is not the fault of his fellow members; it's simply the reality of idol groups, and any industry, where sacrifices are often necessary for the group's overall success.
Regarding Gunwook, I had similar worries about his vocal opportunities, fearing he might only be given rap lines and miss out on developing his singing skills. It turns out I was overly concerned, as he has shown tremendous potential. It would be a loss not to utilize it. I'm grateful he is given vocal lines and chances to showcase his talent, but I agree that his throaty sound in the higher range indicates he still has some areas to work on.
@@EKCristobal It's a bit sad cause I really like his voice. Reminds me a lot of Taehyung from BTS, this lower velvety quality to it. And I feel like if they have given them lower range songs he could display it more. Have you seen him with Hao on this one show where they had to go higher and higher on Feel The Pop. That was quite impressive especially for Jiwoong. As I had no doubt Hao would do it.

i love hao's voice! not only is his lower register really strong but his transitions between registers are so smooth. he has kind of a weird falsetto so i don't enjoy that as much but overall he has an incredible range and a really versatile sound!
Sungeon (Evnne) is my favorite vocalist in 5th gen. I was really rooting for him in Boys Planet. His voice is very clear and at the same time, it's raspy. The high notes are not always supported but it's just very satisfying to hear him.

boynextdoor members have always said they believe their strength lies mostly in their performance ability instead of technique, they really excel in performance compared to other groups but this video explained how theyre lacking in technicalities really well

so I'm just bout to say something, and it might or might not be completely born out of my head but hear me out. Since Kakao news just popped out the other day, it turns out they are selling SM and we still don't know who's buying it but we'll find out anyways, what's interesting about that is it came to my mind again that Kakao took over SM in february. Since at that time I followed Riize closely (unlike now), I read on twt from some SM closer person (leaker or whatever), that there was a plan to bring Seunghan back then in January/February. Then his return didn't happen, and the person who talked about that plan seemed openly confused, and they said they didn't know what happened and why he's still on hiatus. Other than his hiatus, many people have started questioning Riize's musical direction since Impossible - including me. I, personally, after loving Love 119 so much, think that Kakao themselves literally butchered Riize's first and planned concept in this recent comeback, and that they were responsible for Seunhan's hiatus being prolonged. Riize's music went from a nostalgic sentiment into completely westernizing itself and trying to be sold to western public for some reason - and that very reason might have been Kakao trying to reach western market through SM entertainment. Now that they are finally gone, we might see a different direction in their music (and see someone come back).

Idk how to explain it but matt and Ricky make the verses better bcuz of their voices and vibrato, like matt in his part in the bridge of dear eclipse, in bloom or take my hand, and Ricky in melting point and the final part of in bloom and + i LOVE when the company actually uses jiwoong's voice well like in take my hand
while im admittedly not as knowledgeable with vocals, ricky as (said by both taerae and himself ) likes to utilize lay-back where he falls behind the rhythm by a bit so thats why he tends to have a more relaxed groovy style of singing!
at the end of the day zb1's talents will ALWAYS get recognised no matter how much ppl will try to hate on their vocals, they're so far one of the best vocal groups in the last 4 years, and that proven within a year of debut !!

Zhang Hao is one of the best idol I've ever seen. His voice is clear (live/encore) & beautiful, he's also versatile & stable when dancing (rare). With his amazing mindset of his, I'm sure he'll continue to progress as he did with dance. I'm rejoicing to see Yuehua together in one team, I fully love the matching voices of Hao & Seungeon in Jelly pop. I'm sure they'll deliver wonderful performance with a song that fit them. Taerae will do well after ZB1, he has an angelic voice & is made to do OST. I just hope he knows his potential & won't stay with that company

I think 5th gen boy groups are really defining a lot of things for male idols. Voice colors, dance caliber, and visuals are the main things I notice and for vocals, they are bringing back the vocal standards for male idols

Fact: I don't know if SungHanbin is aware of this or not but he sounds same like NCT Doyoung, I just noticed these I think a month, that's I'm loving his voice, the way I love Doyoung voice. I think he would be happy if he will knew this cuz he loves NCT sunbaenims.
Lee mujin also said that hanbin's vocal really reminded him of nct doyoung, and hanbin said it might because of that he watched nct videos and sing nct songs alot so he kind of influenced by their style

Boys Planet final line up especially the top trainees really showed that being good looking, entertaining & being talented in vocal & dance can co-exist into 1. This is by far the most honest pick I've seen in any other survival shows where they mostly pick visuals, dancers, kind & entertaining trainees compared to trainees who have it all. I'm way more pleased that they managed to debut good vocalists where music is what they sell here so it only makes sense for this group to have good vocalists.

He has a calm and warm voice tone rather than a fancy, seasoned one. I love how RIIZE’s discography highlights their strengths and showcases their harmonies and layers. I also really appreciate ZB1’s strong vocals but somehow it seems like their vocals are at their best when they are doing covers like Start Over, Run Run and Lee Mujin service. As someone who loves music and singing very much I personally tend to focus on the vocal + voice quality and the rawness in that voice.
And among the 5th gen vocalists I really like Sungho's voice (notice I mentioned voice and not vocals) Reason being if you watch their recording behind the scenes you can observe how much good his raw voice and vocals are, he just needs more vocal training and guidance (which kinda sucks that he's in hybe since they're very business minded and it also really not helps that his group, boynextdoor feel more like a hip-hop/rap kinda group). I also feel like his vocals aren't fully explored and definitely aren't at his full potential too. I hope he finds the right and good guidance cause he has immense potential :)
i love sungho's voice so much too, he has beautiful vocals, he's my bias but i can see that sometimes he struggles with hitting really high notes, but i know when he works and improves his technique, he will be a better vocalist than he's now

Thanks for this analysis, people were mad when I pointed out that Riwoo's it's an stylistic singer rather than a technique one, when reaching high notes, his voice gets too strained and nasal, he doesn't support and has problems getting the right pitch

separate comment bc it's a bit of a different subject. re: zb1 i have two thoughts on this analysis. one is that i think jiwoong is a much better vocalist than he is given credit for and is severely underutilized in zb1. in boys planet he didn't get to sing much and worked mostly as a rapper. but he has his own pre-zb1 body of work including a number of OSTs he sung that really showcase his vocal ability, and you can hear it pretty clearly in the run run cover and also in some of zb1's b-sides. alternatively, i think gunwook, while a very good vocalist overall considering he is technically their main rapper, needs some work in his high range. he is very throaty which you can hear clearly in his choppy vibrato. but i think if he had some good training on how to better utilize his diaphragm and lift his damn soft palate (!!!!) he would be honestly unstoppable.
Honestly, when I was creating a video about their potential positions just after their formation, this was one of my concerns about Jiwoong. Given that ZB1’s vocals are already strong, he might have fewer opportunities to showcase his talent. While this would allow other members to shine, it could disadvantage him, as underutilization might hinder his improvement. However, it's important to note that this is not the fault of his fellow members; it's simply the reality of idol groups, and any industry, where sacrifices are often necessary for the group's overall success.
Regarding Gunwook, I had similar worries about his vocal opportunities, fearing he might only be given rap lines and miss out on developing his singing skills. It turns out I was overly concerned, as he has shown tremendous potential. It would be a loss not to utilize it. I'm grateful he is given vocal lines and chances to showcase his talent, but I agree that his throaty sound in the higher range indicates he still has some areas to work on.
@@EKCristobal It's a bit sad cause I really like his voice. Reminds me a lot of Taehyung from BTS, this lower velvety quality to it. And I feel like if they have given them lower range songs he could display it more. Have you seen him with Hao on this one show where they had to go higher and higher on Feel The Pop. That was quite impressive especially for Jiwoong. As I had no doubt Hao would do it.
