@@PekkaEräreikä51 That doesn’t really relate to the comment or video, but I agree. I think Norway’s song from Alessandra was good too and better than Loreen’s.
I left Bergen Norway for the U. S. with my family when I was nine years old. My memories are of the fishmarket in Bergen with my mom, and Floybannen where we lived just above the station. Also of my grandfather Karl Normann and his cabin on and island just outside of Bergen. We were there every summer. We left for America in 1957. I'm now in my late 70s in Northern California, and have visited Norway many times over the years. I love my family and my life here in the States and the amazing opportunities this country has given us all. And as a American Veteran I have a special place in my heart for all my fellow veterans. But I have to say, that way down deep, there will always be a special place in my heart for my home country of Norway. Whenever I hear music like this, it brings on a tear of remembrance.
As a Swede, I genuinely envy you Norwegians for the amount of patriotism you have for your country. And yes, this song definitively speaks to me: I can relate to it on so many levels - the longing for the green pastures and forests of my northern hometown, where I played in the backyard, where I got my first job, where my dad and mom cook(ed) the best food I've ever eaten! We scandinavian people are more similar than we think, and more different than we sometimes may refute. We should celebrate our near-unique standing in the world as the brotherly people that we are, something that no one can take from us. Gratulerar på dagen, kära grannland.
Just gonna preface this with that I just started writing in Norwegian due to you ending your comment in Swedish. I can not be bothered to rewrite all of this in English. At våre land samles under ett flagg. Vi hadde blitt en større politisk makt og eg trur det hadde tjent oss ganske bra. Men det ville ikke vært problemfritt.

It’s actually our constitution day. It would take 91 more years for us to gain full independence. Only to lose it 35 years later. Our freedom has now lasted 79 continuously. Such a long history, yet only a lifetime and a half of independence. But the constitution marked the start of our new identity. The one we had lost to the plague in 1349. @@DontReadMyName9461 well firstly there are still absolute monarchies and “semi-constitutional monarchies” but even in constitutional monarchies, the monarch retains significant power as a matter of law, even if custom usually prevents monarchs from exercising their power, custom can and has been broken. In 1975 for example, Australia had a constitutional crisis bc the representative of the king dismissed the PM. Even if we say that most of the time custom works, that doesn’t mean you can’t improve and also if custom does work and constitutional monarchs have no power, what’s their purpose? There’s no point to keeping them around, they have no job. If we did this for any other family there would be public outcry, people would say they’re welfare whores, but for royal families it’s different?
