We compare two extreme ends of the MPV segment. The Datsun Go+ takes on the Honda Mobilio.
India is a country of big families, where people likes to travel together. In these situations, 5 seater cars fails and that is time when MPV comes into picture. Honda Mobilio, Honda’s first MPV premium 7 seaters, on the other hand, GO+ is the Datsun second attempt to enter the market. The Datsun Go+ seems to be made to cater the needs of a big family.
Exteriors:
On the outside, Honda Mobilio and Datsun Go+ both seems to share some similarity from their Hatchback. The Datsun Go+ looks much like the Go from the front with same large headlamps and massive radiator grille. Even its side profile is similar to its younger brother till the C- pillar after which, the Go+ gets an added length of 200mm. While the front of the Honda Mobilio looks like Brio, the grille on the front is chunkier and side profile has distinct shoulder lines that show the flow of the car. Both the cars have large windows and manage to pull off the good appeal. Mobilio will give you the boot capacity of 223 litres, while Datsun Go+ has 347 litres of boot space.
Interiors:
In terms of sitting, both the car gives ample space. Datsun Go+ offers a good amount of legroom and adequate headroom in the second row. The rear seat of Go+, however, is enough for small children, but fails to accommodate elders easily, on another hand Honda Mobilio is very spacious in the second and rear row. The interiors of Datsun Go+ fails to match up with Honda Mobilio. The dashboard of the Go+ is much identical with Go. Its dash has an attractive dual tone color scheme and is integrated with a few features like an instrument cluster, AC unit and a mobile docking station. On the other hand, the dashboard of the Honda Mobilio is identical with Brio and Amaze. The infotainment system of Honda Mobilio provides Bluetooth, USB, Aux-in and iphone connection for Navigation. Both the cars offer ample storage space for bottle and cup holders.
Engine and Performance:
Powering the Datsun Go+ is the 1.2-litre petrol engine, which churns out a maximum power of 67.1bhp along with 104 Nm of peak torque @ 4000 rpm. The MPV delivers a fuel economy of 20.6 kmpl, whereas Honda Mobilio comes with both petrol and diesel engine. The NVH level of Go+ is good and the engine is noisy after it push to its limit. Talking about Mobilio’s engine, with the maximum power of 117.4bhp and a peak torque of 145 Nm. Mobilio will not disappoint at higher speeds, even in cuts and corner, it drives well. Both the cars offer a better suspension and shows great maturity on broken roads. The ARAI tested fuel economy of Mobilio is 17.3 kmpl.
Verdict:
The price of the base variant of both the cars varies about three lacs and top variant about four lacs. Honda Mobilio is costing more in both the cases. If you are looking for low budget 7 seaters and have risk for safety and lack of features, then Datsun Go+ is an option, while the Honda Mobilio is much superior vehicle, it's an MPV that is efficient , premium and comfortable. In this comparison, we recommend Honda Mobilio.
