So, both this and Lines in the Sand are largely Derek Sherinian compositions (though DT added a lot to lines, including the lyrics), with some of the same material but taken in different directions. The guys were working on a lot of side-projects at the time and sometimes they bled together. Petrucci recorded a solo for the Trent Gardner album “Age of Impact”, right after he got out of FII sessions and where they started writing Metropolis 2 (with Derek, btw). 2 years later, same melody from his solo winds up being a major line in Scenes from a Memory. Funny how that works!
