Leadville Trail 100 2019 - EF Gone Racing

After Dirty Kanza and GBDuro, Rapha and EF Education First Pro Cycling’s alternative racing calendar set its sights on the Leadville Trail 100, one of the world’s toughest one-day mountain bike races. An out and back 100-mile course that never drops below 10,000 feet above sea level, Leadville is a lung-busting, heart-breaking hit-out for its 2,000 participants.
Newly minted USA road race champion Alex Howes and GBDuro conqueror Lachlan Morton were the two EF riders to take to the startline. What follows is the story of their race, and of an old mining town saved by a race and its riders.

Lots of people do that at Leadville since it's rare you have to get off and it allows better power transfer. I read an article with a line from Todd Wells about it. He does the same thing...
I am thinking about going with my road shoes for the DK200. I just can’t get my mountain shoes dialed in to be as comfortable as my road shoes. Probably has to do with all the thousands of miles I have done in them on the road.
I have watched this several times since it was first posted. It gets better every time. Lachlan is just one of a kind.
Thanks for the memories. I did it in 98, 99, 2000, & 2001 and it kicked my ass every time! Great race, well organized, great people, and beautiful country!

These gone racing films are the best content Rapha has ever produced and this EF team is one thatll be remembered for years to come.
You guys are making some of the most powerful cycling videos out there, this stuff is just amazing and that pep talk made the heart rate flutter and bring up some emotion, it was really beautiful. Thanks to everyone who contributed to the making of this, it's truly inspiring.

I did Leadville several years back, and I have to say, it was probably the best day I’d ever had on a bike. Riding bikes in an amazing place with hundreds and hundreds of other like minded people was absolutely amazing. I will always look fondly at my bucket for all the great memories from that day. If any of you are thinking about doing Leadville….DO IT!
To whoever edited this piece - A+ all the way. Timing was impeccable and you really told a fantastic story, complete with suspense. Every one of these episodes just get better and better. Don’t stop crafting these mini docs!
Well done film. Finished Leadville 100 MTB 4 times myself. Agree with Phinney's comments about everyone doing it being crazy! Love it though...and love the area. Something raw about Leadville as compared to rest of Colorado. Probably why I bought a cabin near the race course.
Shows that you can be valuable for sponsors without winning, shows that you don‘t have to win to inspire people, shows that winning isn’t always the most important thing.
Signed up for my first gravel race after watching these EF series! Borrowing a gravel bike for the event! No expectations, just looking forward to having fun and trying something new!

These films are amazing. Watching how this race/ride galvanizes the cycling community gets my eyes pretty misty. This is the side of cycling that keeps people doing crazy things. I love seeing a pro tour team being involved with these things and closing the gap between the average joe and the pro. Keep making these films!! The cycling world needs more content like this!!

I could watch these videos forever. I love being able to see the personalities of the riders and the chilled run-through of the event with them. That's whats missing from the TdF, which is more stilted and distant a lot of the time. I love the UCI world tour, but there's something down to earth and levelling about the behind-the-scenes videos of these alternative events, love it
i live in leadville! the race is great and a great way to get economic growth in our community. the only thing i hate is when people park in front of my driveway.

In an age in which professional cycling seems so foreign and disconnected from the every day cyclist, this sort of content does a great job of connecting the professionals to everyday people, and frankly reminding all of us why it's just a lot of fun to go out and ride your bike.

Great video and great story... I'm doing my first endurance event in like 5 weeks... a local race here in Namibia called the Desert Dash... 393km in 24hrs... pretty young event, but its starting to attract people from all over the world... wish me luck!

"I've pushed through enough injuries in my career..." Taylor Phinney. Jeez, such an understatement. A few feet either way, and maybe Taylor died hitting that guardrail. If the guy never wins, never even podiums again, just to come back and be racing at such a high level after that crash is truly amazing. Guys in Lycra might not seem as tough as contact sports dudes, but the more you know about bike racing, the more you realize how hard as nails these folks are, going through what they do.
Somebody sign him up for 2020 already! I want to see him in Paris-Roubaix again!
