Hi again GunznGear, nice to see you again, its funny I came across this saw video, I just up-graded my saw, I like a folding saw, usually I do alot of my wilderness work in cold weather, and when my hands get cold, wing nuts, and trying to put together like your saw video, made me stay with my folding saw style, so far I'm very pleased with my Silky Bigboy 2000, not too heavy, yet its big, saws like a hot knife through butter, but that Bob's saw caught my interest, since I followed your suggestions on some knives I bought that you recommended like my Bark River's. I might get that Bob's saw.Thanx again, and nice to see you again.
I'm not ready to say the Sawvivor is flimsy, but I will say that the other two designs are more sturdy. Yeah, I'm really liking the Bob's Buck Saw. Thanks
Bobs's saw seems to be great, but I notice that it is LOUD! A wood take down buck saw is about 90% quieter, and only slightly if at all heavier. I believe I weighed my 21" bucksaw at 20oz with two spare blades, and that was after several coats of linseed oil was applied for moisture protection. If a part of a wood buck saw breaks in the field, you just carve a new replacement piece with your knife.
I've had a Sawvivor for quite a while and while it's performed some amazing feats, I've made observations similar to yours. The Bob's looks like a much better option. I have minor criticisms of most pack saws I've used. I think in the end I may just make my own saw out of milled aluminum so it has added strength were I need it but would still have the lighter weight.I may go with Ti or steel tube stock for durability. Not sure yet. Thanks for posting.
Yes you can sharpen saw blades, but some are going to be a lot more difficult than others. All I have ever used is files, but I've never tried to sharpen sawblades like the Gerber folding saw b/c the teeth are so close together. Saws, like the three in this vid, can be sharpen to good effect.
That was my camping buddy Sarge hassling. We had just learned that ole Sarge had an enlarged heart and wasn't going to be with us much longer. He has joined me on many a camping trip, and I wanted one last memory being in the woods with him.
I like the point you made to let the saw do the work. It is too easy to try to pur your back into pushing the saw and end up buckling or skipping with what you do, can even be a bit dangerous if you force the blade out of a cut. I like to sing to it as I go, seems silly but what the heck.. Thanks for this post.
There is no comparison between the two when considering the robust construction, and superior design of Dustrudes Quick saw. The sawvivor needs to change it's name to "Light Weight Weekender" LOL
I am between the Bob saw and the Sven saw any suggestions I've used the Sven saw a lot and really like it but I broke it and I found this one which looks great but the Bob saw is double the price so idk what to go with right now.
Johnny Airesman Not sure if you made a decision, but I have a 21" sven saw & actually dislike it's triangular shape. I have a cheap bow saw right now from Menards, looking at my options for preferably a collapsible bow saw like the Bobs one here. The thing I don't like about the Bobs is nothing to keep hand from getting cold. no nothing. I understand a person can wear gloves, so not a deal breaker. But I will still explore. I am from MN. It is made by someone in northern MN. But that doesn't mean I will buy it. It's tempting to support ones own economy though. Let me know what you find. I am also looking at Japanese foldable blades (Gomboy, etc.), but I like design of a Bow saw better.
Steve Lahr Hey Steve I actually got the Bob Dustrude Quick Buck Saw a few months ago it's great the only issue is what you said about your hand but for me if I put gloves on it is not a big deal at all and I like wearing gloves while sawing anyway. I also have the bacho laplander and my friend has the silky gomboy both are great for small backpacking saws. My other friend has the silky zubat which is right in between and also a great saw. I have the Sven 21 also it broke after the second week of having it not saying it's a terrible saw but the Bob Dustrude Quick Buck Saw definitely beats it. Let me know what you will do Johnny
If I had thought of carrying a collapsible saw when I was in the barroom/one night stand stage of life, my teeth would have sustained a lot less wear and tear.
wow, excellent review. I never even heard of of the Dustrude saw. Checking it out now, 16 oz and about $45, not bad. Still, the sawvivor comes in 10 bucks cheaper and weighs only 9.5 oz. trade offs, trade offs...
I've made wood buck saws, and used limbs to make bow saws. They work just fine, and it's fun to make the components, but they will never be as tough as a quality aluminum frame. I believe in "to each his own" and I am impressed with the design and durability of Bob's buck saw. BTW wood buck saws can be a little more quite, but no where near 90%, I don't see an advantage in the difference. Depending on wood being used they can also be heavier than the aluminum frame.
I've only used it for this 4 day trip, but I really like the Bob's buck saw. I agree w/ you in that pack saws are a little lacking... until someone makes a chainsaw that only weighs 5oz!! LOL If you do make your own, then I hope you post a vid. It's hard to beat homemade equipment. Thanks
I've wasted plenty of money on bow saws trying to find one that is easy to carry in my pack while not losing capability... I recently purchased a Silky Bigboy folding saw... it will blow all of these out of the water by far and some
shanes channel . Agawa Canyon Boreal 21 stays in one piece when collapsed . It is available with different blades depending on your use . The raker blade on my saw is very aggressive . It is also comfortable for extended use .
Maybe not that critical, taking a different angle, but I hate the sound the "Bob" saw makes. That wold get on my nerves. The Saw-Vivor actually was much easier on the ear.
After a year and a half, many trips and uses with the Bob's saw, I can say that it is vastly superior in every way concerning construction, and performance to the sawvivor. Any noise difference doesn't really matter to me. Thanks
I was going to make a point that comparing these saws is like comparing apples to oranges but I cant do it without making the comment sound rude even though I tried not to do so. Great job and nice video, thank you.
Your dog is breathing a mile a minute, I think he's getting exhausted watching you work. I think Bob's quick bucksaw maybe better than the sawvivor that nutnfancy reviewed.
Say Heah, Check out a new saw I just got. It's the Agawa Canyon 21 Boreal Saw, yeah, similar to the Bob Drustude Bow Saw, Another one saws a little faster made by Ead KUT WoW Folding Saw because of its unique saw teeth.,,.
I have had a wyoming saw forever and it is my favorite but the Bobs sure looks sweet, however the dinky ass sawvivor must be the best cuz nutnfancy says so, lol.
Really like Bob's saw! Used to like his camping vids, but he's turned into a cult leader. He's become dangerous to his following, and other unsuspecting weak minded folks
I agree. He is full of himself for sure. I called him when he got way off base one time and got over a 100 likes on the comment within hours so it stayed on top. Guess what, comment deleted and I got banned, lol. He can never admit when he isn't right.
Thanks for the comment. I'm glad you found it useful
That is true, thanks
Thanks bro!
Happy, Healthy, and Prosperous New Year GunZ, yup the Wicked Tough Saw is great, but Thanx for sharing your saw's, that BOB'S Saw look's sweet.
Happy New Year to you as well
Thx for the video
Glad you liked it!
Thanks, I'm glad you enjoyed the vid.
Thanks. Useful info.
I am buying the Bob saw based on this video. Thanks for the review.
Thanks for the comment! hahaha I love that you sing while you work!!
Hope you found it useful
I hope you enjoy yours as much as I do mine
Very informative, thanks for the video!

Amen to that!!! Thank you
It's the best packable saw that I've tried so far. The design is quite clever. Thanks buddy!

LMAO!! You crack me up buddy! I think Major has learned not to wake Sarge, or the big dog!! LOL Thanks
I completely thought you were sawing in the background at first because your pups breathing was so even, like a saw. Hilarious.
I dont remember if you mentioned this or not, but it looks like Bob's Buck Saw would make a deeper cut w/out running out of head room. Thanks.
I've had a Sawvivor for quite a while and while it's performed some amazing feats, I've made observations similar to yours. The Bob's looks like a much better option.

LOL yeah Sarge and Major had a lot of fun running around in the woods, but it was a little hot for them. Thank you ma'am

Yep, we were up there for 4 days, and had a great time. Thanks Ben
Sarge is a good sport. He follows me where ever I go. Thanks
Hope you like yours as much as I do mine.
They're all nice saws , but i'll go with Bob's buck saw . In the end , at my age i'll find room for my Stihl 'Farm Boss' ... LOL !. Good vid Van !.
The Sawvivor will serve many folks well, but I do like Bob's Destrudes saw much better. Thanks
That was my camping buddy Sarge hassling. We had just learned that ole Sarge had an enlarged heart and wasn't going to be with us much longer. He has joined me on many a camping trip, and I wanted one last memory being in the woods with him.
Yes it is. After a year of use, I like it even more!

You'd have had a blast after the wind that came through here yesterday :) I like saws that have a motor on them, lol. :)
Oh yes! I love my Stihl chain saw!!! It kinda sucks to carry it in a backpack though.
It is the most capable pack saw that I've seen yet.
I am between the Bob saw and the Sven saw any suggestions I've used the Sven saw a lot and really like it but I broke it and I found this one which looks great but the Bob saw is double the price so idk what to go with right now.

Johnny
yea i was sitting there like how the hell is that a saw.. lol .. but that sure does look like a winner
If I had thought of carrying a collapsible saw when I was in the barroom/one night stand stage of life, my teeth would have sustained a lot less wear and tear.

A lot less easier?
I have the Wyoming saw and i love it

Is it possible to sharpen a saw blade? If yes do you have to have a special tool(machine) to do that or you can do it with a simple tool or a stone?
I think Sarge would enjoy camping even more if we could bring the A/C!! LOL
24" blade.....if it is the middle one...
they come in 21, 24, and 31 inch
I've wasted plenty of money on bow saws trying to find one that is easy to carry in my pack while not losing capability... I recently purchased a Silky Bigboy folding saw... it will blow all of these out of the water by far and some
Are you familiar with the Boreal 21? That and the Bob are the two that have my attention. Would love to know how they match up.

Roll up a rag or lay a tight fitting stick in the C of the back and the sound will go away. Its a sound chamber like a drum.
Good review. Sorry to hear about Sarge.
If dogs aren't allowed in heaven. I don't want to go.
I think his dog is filming the video.ha
I thought you were sawing something while talking at the beginning of this video. Nope, it was Sarge breathing. lol
I was going to make a point that comparing these saws is like comparing apples to oranges but I cant do it without making the comment sound rude even though I tried not to do so. Great job and nice video, thank you.
Would not recommend Bob's Saw for Christmas Tree poachers... unless the plantation owner is stone deaf.
i get a real kick when monster dog come's into view.
Your dog is breathing a mile a minute, I think he's getting exhausted watching you work. I think Bob's quick bucksaw maybe better than the sawvivor that nutnfancy reviewed.
I unsubscribed to him close to 2yrs ago. I don't even think about him unless someone else brings him up.
what was that scary heavy breathing in the background for the entire video??
LOL ain't that the truth! I have that same model of Stihl, and it wins, hands down! Thanks bro

Silky Katana much faster
+jrsue Ok.... show us!
hahahaha don't we all
Yep totally did not see that dog. it's really only 20 pixels at the beginning and he/she looks like a shadow or a rock.
do you still use this?
The constant noise in the background was maddening. Other than that....nice job/
Get you dog some water!
