      It’s good to use a film extensively Steve, I can change around a bit but once I’ve used my old stocks up I’ll settle on a handful of materials. Pan F has a lovely tonality to it although in contrasty light it can be tricky. Using it at home I imagine you can control the subject brightness range.

    A great video, thanks ! I like to shoot landscapes with Ilford FP4+/125... I've heard somewhere that PAN-f 50 must be processsed very soon after the exposure is taken - like in 1-3 days... is it right ?

    • @SteveONions
      @SteveONions  ปีที่แล้ว

      It’s often been said that you need to process Pan F+ fairly quickly after exposure (and I do) but Ilford state within 3 months so not urgent. It is interesting that they don’t state this for their other films so there’s probably some reason why the latent image isn’t as durable as other stocks.

    Normally I find so much of my own style in yours (mine with far lesser mastery), but on this one point I just don’t connect. While I love your images here, I’m a sucker for those superwide angle shots - even fisheye - drawing the eye to an object in the foreground which seems huge but then as you follow the visual lines, it becomes insignificant in the rapidly increasing field of view. Those are some of my favorite shots to take (and honestly, virtually the only ones I take wider than 28 on 35mm or 55 on 6x7).

    • @SteveONions
      @SteveONions  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      We’re quite different in our approach, I favour longer focal lengths and find wideangles especially difficult to use in the forest.

    • @MD-en3zm
      @MD-en3zm 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@SteveONions I love my longer focal lengths too - I have been known to carry my 300mm for my Pentax 6x7 - but I do like the wides as well. Lots of beautiful images possible with either of course. I find different focal lengths can help me get out of a rut sometimes when I just can’t seem to find the right image. Sometimes I will deliberately take a lens I don’t use as much just to force myself to see things differently.

    Great video again! I love PanF+ film but so far only used it with 35 mm. For 120 format, I always used FP4+ instead which has a similar tonality (Pan F+ is a bit better though). Do you think that the 120-format PanF+ has the same thickness as other Ilford films like FP4+ or Delta? Asking because I heard that the thickness of PanF+ is the issue why Ilford never made PanF+ 4x5" sheets for large format.

    • @SteveONions

      Hi Peter. For the 80mm PS I’ve found f/22 to be very good and don’t hesitate to use it. The 50s however is bad at f/22 so I never go below f/16. I need to test the 50 PS but so far it looks like a better lens than my S variant (sample variation?).
