Yeah there are so many games that could be huge hits if the developers would improve sometimes only small aspects, but they don't, they instead give up and even leave the entire games industry. Happens so many times..
For being a very small dev team project, the game is pretty cool, but almost every element feels like it was just scratching the surface of its potential. Every individual ‘book’ has an incredible premise, but most of them start very strongly before kind of fizzling out into anticlimactic endings. The last book especially builds a gorgeously deep and interesting world, but doesn’t really pay it off. Plus the ending overall felt very underwhelming to me, the whole idea of someone collecting these powerful artefacts could’ve lead to a really cool story of someone trying to alter the state of the world using these magical items, but the villain turns out to basically just be some guy
I wish the game had ended one book sooner. The 2nd to last book would have been the perfect place for the climax, narritavely speaking. The actual final book feels thrown together.
@@trise2033 My issue isn't that they didn't explain WHY the final level feels boring and thrown together. My issue is that it feels boring and thrown together, and I would have rather stopped one book sooner.
I agree, it felt very strange that the protagonist’s relationship with the penultimate book seemed to come up and disappear within that book and didn’t carry over to the next one
omg such a good review!! I have been watching too much gamespot and ign lately and i forgot what an actual REVIEW sounds like those dudes just trying to be funny, I don't even know what they are talking about during the review half the time
It was such an incredible concept that just didn't quite amount to anything special in the end. As you're going through it, it really feels like all these interesting worlds are going to be tied together thematically somehow and that there's gonna be some interesting commentary on the nature of creation/storytelling. Then it just rushes to an unsatisfying ending that literalizes everything in the most boring way and makes everything feel like unimportant window dressing.
I tried the demo for this during one of Steam's recent demo fests. And I found it....very lacking, much like this review describes it. It's a shame, because on paper, it's a great idea. It reminds of the comic book series, The Unwritten. Unfortunately, the execution just didn't live up to the idea.
games really do have to be trend setting to get an overall positive as Frost says. Serviceable and enjoyable are not good enough, as we humans get bored of the same things.
Darn, I was really interesting in this game when I first saw it. After listening to this review and looking into it, it seems disappointing despite the cool concept.
I love the main character's design. The book for a face and pages for hair is super cool
I completely agree its a really good idea !
Yep!
I didn't even notice that till you pointed it out lmao
Such a cool concept.
Shame it seems to fail to deliver on it.
I hope the developers take the criticism on board and use it to improve upon what they've already built.

This review is accurate. I'm just playing it now on Game Pass. Its a fine diversion. No bugs yet as well.

Their previous game, The Final Station, also had quite an underwhelming ending to it
Reminded me the book series Inkheart exists, so thats something.

It literally was. In game, no less. Didn't you read the story?

Very inspired by Disco Elysium
Let's hope this one doesn't get stolen by fraudsters, like Disco Elysium.
@@deusexvesania1702 what u mean bro?
Well this looks neat as hell.
That premise is like a somehow nerdier Neuromancer... If that's even possible.
Strong Little Big Adventure vibes
this game looks heavily inspired by disco elysium which is evident in the portraits and UI, but not nearly as deep or as well rounded.
A little disappointed as this was I game I was very intrigued by it doesn’t sound like it lived up to the premise. I’ll wait for it to go on sale.
It's on Game Pass in case you have it.
Like commando not real 3D ?
Now take this concept and make the Last Action Hero game!
On Xbox series X I'm playing with a mouse. It is a lot easier to find interactable objects by moving the mouse cursor around
what a great concept
Concept over Content is good summation of my feelings for this game. As well as others.
The game does talk about the consequences of your actions. You never read the newspaper.
omg such a good review!!

Good to know Rohan kishibe is still getting work
I'm getting Bill and Ted NES vibes ...

I thought I would be treated to something similar to Disco Elysium but after this review I think its better to replay DE.
so glad i have this game, i never knew it would be as good as it is! super fun and engaging IMO! great review!
Lost me when he said the approach to every level is the same with similar outcomes...😢
It bugged on me in the magic school book, game breaking, could not progress
Titanic.
I cam here expecting Dishonored 😂😂😂 after watching the trailer. What the hell is this
Visually, this reminds me of Disco Elysium.
i liked it...

"That's Thor's hammer". Sure, but you pronounced it wrong.
Shame the game isn't that great
Ngl I loved the game
I could feel how much this game would make me pull my hair out, no thanks.
Oh no, I hate pixel hunting but love adventure games. Good to know the story isn't that great, so I'll skip.
Dumbest comment I've read today.
