Jon Lord on "The Beast". His Hammond C-3 played through a Marshall amp. Ritchie didn't like playing rhythm and Jon wanted his Hammond to sound like a guitar. If you really want to hear them in sync, listen to "Place In Line". Jon, Ritchie and Roger are pitch perfect.
Gee, you have to listen to "Lazy" live from "Made in Japan". Much, much better. Because of live version, nobody ever listens to the studio version. It evolved to something fantastic, in live.
OH you said it, all that a-kickin music and it was on the radio everyday, still is but now on the classic rock stations - but its still there and says something for how damn good it all was. Remember all the singer songwriter combos, kiiller rock and southern rock bands, the list goes on. Today its all rap and hip hop with no instruments or skills to play them, just beat box and auto tune crap

I then took it a step further and put a Wah pedal between the keys’ output and the amp’s in, and got some some great tones out of it. When I first heard Lord doing this on ‘Highway Star’, I must’ve laughed for twenty min. straight.
Lord and Blackmore were a once in a generation pair with a rare synergy and talent. They had that intuitive connection that you find with twin siblings. Difficult to explain, but wow they were great. Their infusion of blues, classical and jazz put them above their peers in my humble opinion.

I played Deep Purple constantly, back when. Still have EX/NM vinyl. And knew they were great among so much talent of the period, but they are still solid, passing the test of time, with flawless ease. Rush would be close to matching the overall broad musical talent amongst members. Individuals, like Van Halen, Stevie Ray, Clapton and Hendrix are standouts. But its a team effort. Also love Blue Cheer/six LP''s (Peace of Mind/Fruits and Icebergs/more than just wild Summertime Blues. So much complex sound from just three people.
Anyone else a fan of DP's last album of the 70's " Come Taste the Band" circa 75? Considered Purple MK4 Blackmore left due to the funk & soul influence David Coverdale and bassist, vocalist Glenn Hughes were pulling them in. Coverdale recruited guitarist "Tommy Bolin"(RIP) after hearing him on the landmark jazz fusion album "Spectrum" by Billy Cobham. Bolin is my favorite guitarist period. Love Blackmore(& classic Purple) it's just Bolin has more of a warm, greasy tone and made it funky as hell. Check " Dealer" (with small vocal part by Bolin) & " You keep Moving"!!! Both killing!!!!!!

Yup, that's my favorite Lazy - the Made In Japan one. They play for OVER SIX MINUTES the tightest jamming you'll ever hear before the vocal even starts. Amazing.

Formed by DP lead Ritchie Blackmore who took bassist Jimmy Bain and Tony Carey on keyboards from the last version of DP, teamed up with vocalist Ronnie James Dio and one of the best drummers ever in Cozy Powell on his double bass drum kit. They started out as heavy rock which transitioned into heavy metal. Try Stargazer and then it’s sequel Light in the Black. Kill the King, Man on a Silver Mountain, Tarot Woman and Run with the Wolf are also excellent
It was all organ in the beginning and you just experienced one of the things that make deep purple, well Deep Purple - the keyboards and guitar are both lead instruments - and both players are maestros. Actually the same can be said about the drums/drummer
Blackmore is one of the most overlooked and under-rated guitarists in rock history. He is up there with Clapton, Beck, Page, and Hendrix. Good reaction guys!

I'm a guitar player and bass player. The top 5 guitarists of all time are : Gilmour, Stevie Ray, Blackmore, Hendrix, Clapton. Everyone else is overall inferior. PERIOD

You have to remember that Blackmoore and other greats were doing things on their instruments for the first time experamenting sounds and Technics with not many to compare to , today's musicians have a whole music history to learn from and compare. Ritchie's opening lick to smoke on the water was the music that most new guitarist learned before anything back in the day. I played Trombone but even I knew how to play that lick on guitar. Ha! ✌️

Best Guitarist ever, I was in my teens in 68 when they first formed (Listen to Deep Purples first 3 albums with Rod Evans at vocals, some of Ritchie's best playing) and even now with "Blackmores's Knight" he is still playing brilliantly.
What young people need to know theres TONS more kickass music from back in the 70's., and this kind of music was everyday stuff to us back then, I was blessed to grow up in the era

Id like to point out what youre calling old is only old to you young guys; Im 61 and I still have the first copy of this album I bought in the 70's, along with about 150 more albums I have from the same era. I feel bad for the youth of today when all most of them know is hip hop and rap, not really even music as hardly anyone plays a real instrument anymore, its all auto tune and beat box crap, you guys should explore as much of the 70's rock as you can because it will be a whole new world of music for you to discover.

Deep Purple, together with Black Sabbeth, paved the way to what we now call Heavy Metal. Those guys were so innovative, so mesmerisingly enchanting. I was going to recommend this. My favorite song by them. Bought this album when I was 12 only because of 'Smoke On The Water', I had no idea what an incredible album it was. Great choice! Jon Lord played his Hammond organ through a Marshall amp, that's how he got that sound.
Thanks guys. My favorite Deep Purple song. There are so many unique sounds, from every instrument in this song, and then the vocals of course. Another really good 70's opus that doesn't get as much attention, is Sweet's: Love Is Like Oxygen. Long Version is best. Like Bohemian Rhapsody , a whole bunch of different styles and rhythms together in one song.
I adore this song, love it so much, probably my favorite song of all time. I hope you guys like it too. More fun to watch it live though, there is a performance from 72 or 73 that is really fun to watch. This song is genius.

I listened to this album until I wore it out in the 70's then bought a new copy! I always say, if you don't know this album, you can't claim to know Rock n Roll. This must be the updated remastered version because there are subtle differences in the guitar solos from the original 1971 Album recording.
Guys, I was a kid in the 70's hearing all this music being played but never really listened to any of it. It sounded like chaos and madness to me. Thank you guys for putting a spotlight on this music.... it's all just fcking genius now that I listen as an adult.... love you guys. "Ghost love score" by Nightwish.... you'll love it!
That's what music recorded by real musicians in a studio does to you. They put in the energy, and you can feel the energy even 50 years later. There's just so much of it.

I was in the 4th grade in 1972 and already a Beatles fan when I espied two records in the dumpster of my apartment complex in northern California. The two albums were The Who's "Who's Next" and Deep Purple's "Machine Head". That very day my world opened up just a little bit more... a religious experience in my life. These are the best albums from those two bands respectively. So I suggest that you check out "Baba O'Riley" and "Won't Get Fooled Again" from Who's Next as soon as you can!

LOL (kidding) Seriously, great reaction I love seeing todays younger generation discovering the jammin' music we grew up with, I was in high school in the 70's and WE HAD A BLAST-! There was SO much more great music than there is today far as rock, the proliferation of not only rock but soul blues and lets not forget MOTOWN.
You want to freak on the Purple, you need to listen to the live version of Lazy from Deep Purple "Made In Japan". "Child In Time" is also incredible, it is better that the recorded version and on par with the Live Video you reacted to.

Id like to point out what youre calling old is only old to you young guys; Im 61 and I still have the first copy of this album I bought in the 70's, along with about 150 more albums I have from the same era. I feel bad for the youth of today when all most of them know is hip hop and rap, not really even music as hardly anyone plays a real instrument anymore, its all auto tune and beat box crap, you guys should explore as much of the 70's rock as you can because it will be a whole new world of music for you to discover.

Deep Purple, together with Black Sabbeth, paved the way to what we now call Heavy Metal. Those guys were so innovative, so mesmerisingly enchanting. I was going to recommend this. My favorite song by them. Bought this album when I was 12 only because of 'Smoke On The Water', I had no idea what an incredible album it was. Great choice! Jon Lord played his Hammond organ through a Marshall amp, that's how he got that sound.
I saw Deep Purple live at least 6 times in the early 1970's - one of my favourite bands of all time - incredible on stage.

Another really good 70's opus that doesn't get as much attention, is Sweet's: Love Is Like Oxygen. Long Version is best. Like Bohemian Rhapsody , a whole bunch of different styles and rhythms together in one song.

I listened to this album until I wore it out in the 70's then bought a new copy! I always say, if you don't know this album, you can't claim to know Rock n Roll. This must be the updated remastered version because there are subtle differences in the guitar solos from the original 1971 Album recording.

Guys, I was a kid in the 70's hearing all this music being played but never really listened to any of it. It sounded like chaos and madness to me. I was in the 4th grade in 1972 and already a Beatles fan when I espied two records in the dumpster of my apartment complex in northern California. The two albums were The Who's "Who's Next" and Deep Purple's "Machine Head". That very day my world opened up just a little bit more... a religious experience in my life. These are the best albums from those two bands respectively. So I suggest that you check out "Baba O'Riley" and "Won't Get Fooled Again" from Who's Next as soon as you can!

LOL (kidding) Seriously, great reaction I love seeing todays younger generation discovering the jammin' music we grew up with, I was in high school in the 70's and WE HAD A BLAST-! There was SO much more great music than there is today far as rock, the proliferation of not only rock but soul blues and lets not forget MOTOWN.

Highway star is another classic from Purple. Yess Blackmore is God.
It was not a guitar at the start but a Hammond organ played through a guitar fuzz box and a Leslie revolving speaker cabinet.
You want to freak on the Purple, you need to listen to the live version of Lazy from Deep Purple "Made In Japan". "Child In Time" is also incredible, it is better that the recorded version and on par with the Live Video you reacted to.
