They did leave out an entire character from it. There was a girl patient that feared dead was coming for her and everyday she'd be a terror. One of the dreams the man had was him being married to the girl and ran to her before his situation could be reexplained to him. He was in his advanced aged state and his appearance terrified her more and she called him death. Breaking the man's heart. Once the man died the doctor actually injected the woman with some of the man's fragments to give her the long dreams to help her fear of death.
The Soichi's "one in the million" phase has different versions. The one I watched shows Soichi called himself a "fiend" as if he was a dangerous person but his older brother surprisingly accepted it and call Soichi humble. This was because the definition of a fiend is something along the lines of (at least in the anime) "someone that is disliked or undesirable".
Yet another variation is that he calls himself "wonted", and his brother tells him that he doesn't even know what it means. Souichi mistakes this word for "Wanted", and says that he does know what it means. Later he looks it up in a dictionary and finds out that "wonted" means average.
I don’t feel like Junji Ito’s beautiful and terrifying artwork, translates well into anime. It’s just much more eerie when you read it rather than watching it for some reason. For example. If you read the manga version of The Model. Just looking at the design gives you chills. But an anime, it just looks like a weird anime character.

I know these are two different works and universes but Junji Ito’s stories and characters are similar to SCP like scenarios. I can see all these having classifications and the foundation having to intervene at a certain point. Some are Keter like the peeping Tom town that seems to be spreading, some could be safe like Suchi, who they could easily hold in a containment facility much to the employees annoyance as he’s constantly using his voodoo to escape and prank them, the blood bubble tree being linked to a Sacric cult/ritual and Tommie, she would have to be in an all female containment facility but how they capture her would be quite a story as the male agents can’t resist her and would constantly try to free her.

The doctor (which is taking care of both of them) is fascinated by the man long dreams and like in the show, he witnessed his disappearance when his body crumbled. But, the story continues! After, the girl started to accept to sleep, even enjoying it. The hospital staff is glad and think it's because she heard about the other patient death but it's revealed it's because the doctor injected her some cells coming from the long dream man! All of it to continue studying this strange case. The last pannel is the girl sleeping but starting to morph into the strange being the long dream man became.

The dream one is not particularly nightmarish...imagine living several lifetimes and waking up with the knowledge and experience gained from each one...as long as you remember everything from one dream to the next it sounds amazing!

Tomie’s teacher was incredibly predatory. A high schooler claimed to be pregnant with his child, and he dismembered her alive. And involved other kids.

In cases, such as vampires ( folklore is far different than movies), seeing a dead loved one was terrifying, because the loved one often returned to the family to prey on them, family would let them in to rejoice, only to end up dead by mourning. Then there's demonic spirits that take forms of loved ones to do harm... There is a lot of different folk lore to do with the dead and is a staple in why the dead are feared and should be feared. Every country has its myths and lore, but most the lore, the dead loved one returned was a very bad thing. It can be really fascinating stuff if you want to know why anyone be afraid of the dead, for most part it's the unknown and unnaturalness of it that causes fear, the this isn't right as spirits and the dead walking isn't a natural part of our lives.

In the manga I always love hate Tomie she scares me but does get revenge and is op on other hand I feel sorry for her curse. Overall love her story they should animate all of juunji it's work for sure. good unsettling atmosphere you never get now a days.

My personal favorite short was Splatter Film(SMASHED). There’s a roll you gotta follow when eating the “honey”. Don’t get caught. Well, in the anime, the thing says “don’t get noticed” but after seeing where the stuff comes from, it makes sense why you don’t want to get caught.
Love Junji Ito's Art! ❤ The characters look so good. For example, Tomei looks eerily and disturbingly gorgeous. The art from Uzumaki is just stunning. The Placentas, the swirls, I can only describe it all as Hauntingly Beautiful and Terrifyingly Gorgeous. Some of the other ghastly things transfix you. They're so horrible that you can't look away

Most like because him and his family are less focused about horror and more about comedy despite the curse and voodoo stuff, which makes for a break between all the full horror stuff. He is weirdly adorable I'll be honest XD I like the comedy and light horror of it where it's always more for fun and he fails most of the times. (Not mentioning other times where he actually find himself in genuine horror situations)
Am I taking crazy pills or do most of these stories go nowhere? "Creepy kid is putting curses on everyone, then gets caught trying to prank a kid but his brother saves him." "Girl turns into a doll and her parents don't burn her like they're supposed to so she turns into a monster." "Monstrous woman creeps a dude out but then gets invited along to film a movie where she turns out to be a monster and chases them. The End." There's no resolution in any of these stories. It's like they end right as they should be getting to the mid point.
It's basically flash-fiction. The last paragraph or outcome is only hinted. I noticed it too, as if at least some splatter is well deserved. But that's the style. I find the other Macabre collection better.

I don't know why but "Adorable Souichi" made me laugh and at the same time I agree with it, for some weird reasons I think he's adorable.
Most like because him and his family are less focused about horror and more about comedy despite the curse and voodoo stuff, which makes for a break between all the full horror stuff.
He is weirdly adorable I'll be honest XD
I like the comedy and light horror of it where it's always more for fun and he fails most of the times.
(Not mentioning other times where he actually find himself in genuine horror situations)

Am I taking crazy pills or do most of these stories go nowhere? "Creepy kid is putting curses on everyone, then gets caught trying to prank a kid but his brother saves him." "Girl turns into a doll and her parents don't burn her like they're supposed to so she turns into a monster." "Monstrous woman creeps a dude out but then gets invited along to film a movie where she turns out to be a monster and chases them. The End." There's no resolution in any of these stories. It's like they end right as they should be getting to the mid point.
It's basically flash-fiction. The last paragraph or outcome is only hinted. I noticed it too, as if at least some splatter is well deserved. But that's the style.
I find the other Macabre collection better.
