Hey everyone, I realized after uploading this video, that it is in mono and not stereo. However, if you apply the same panning settings I mentioned in this video, you’ll hear the results. 👍🏽
this video just shows how "fix the sound at the source" is really true. His tuning, mics, mic placement, and playing already made it 80% done/sounding good. The compression, eq and additional plugin just enhances what is already there. The saying goes, "A polished turd is still a turd" lol. Thank you for this!!
You have no idea on how this video helps me a lot as a session drummer and recording my self at my home studio … thank you man !!! You have a brother here in Puerto Rico !!
Hey J- Rod. Im a Masters Students at Berklee for Music Production. Bro I just want to say your video helped me out tremendously. The way you mix your drums is great and I was able to use your techniques for my drum mixes. Just want to say Thank You Sir.
My friend. Thank you for sharing this video. About a year ago I started mixing in my home studio. Mixing a live video project right now from a Christmas tour I do every year with Scott. I love your talent and your heart. God bless you. Hope you’re doing great.
I watched this video last night in full, then went back today to a recent session I did in my home space, and went through the whole process with the video alongside me. Man what a difference! I really got a lot of great sound before I even added plugins! My drums are punchier, more full sounding, and this is my first time using gate, and it's a game changer, especially on these toms! Excellent, excellent, EXCELLENT course! Definitely subscribing.
J-rodamachine I am so thankful & blessed bcuz this helps me be more attentive to my mix when recording in the studio. Great stuff and I'm proud of you bruh.....thk u💜🥁💯
Been waiting! Thank you so much for sharing this man, you don't have too but you do. Truly appreciate it! Buying the hoody to support and cuz its bad ass.
Amazing video! Absolutely love the sound of your mix. When you cut up the tom tracks, do you know you can use the "remove silence" tool that logic provides? It basically does what you do except logic does all the work for you when cutting up transients. Just set the parameters and thresholds in the tool and boom all the cutting has been done for you in an instant.
My question is do you leave your final mix at a certain db before you master ? Cause I noticed it was clipping or the stereo track or do you just leave it be and bounce it as it is ?
Excellent educational video, performance and sound. I have a question: Why don’t you correct the tracks that are clipping (for example once you use compression on the kick track)??
just put mics on my kit so posts like this are clutch. also couldn’t watch entire video cuz my face melted off from ninja ambush sic shredding up top. need a skin graft cuz those single stroke fills are from the surface of the sun. sub’d
Great video. I'm blind, so I really enjoyed the amount of talking in this video. Really helps me understand what you are doing. Only thing is, the video was in mono. Other than that, keep up the amazing work.
hi I get lots of bleeding through my mics. I am using earthworks and API for pre amps. My room is a medium size room, 10 foot ceilings. last question, do you do private lessons?
YOOOO! Thank you for this video. 🙏 Question, I've seen this done in many mixing tutorials but is there a significance or purpose for skipping slots or keeping space in between the plug-in slots within the mixer? I've always wondered why some people do this.
To my knowledge, there isn’t. The only reason I have spaces is that I loaded plug-ins and decided not to use them, so I unloaded them. However, I have heard of the significance of loading plug-ins in a specific order for a particular result (compressor before eq vice-versa). I can’t hear the difference, though.
J-Rod, thanks for the video! Are you using an interface or a mixing board/interface to record? I’m on the fence about getting a new interface or using a digital mixer as my interface. I like to practice with headphones through a mixer, but want to make practicing and recording process simple. So when I’m practicing and I want to record, I just have to plug in my computer and not reroute everything. Any suggestions? Thanks again. B
Now I have the courage to try and record drums once more, thank you… real quick on your interface what are your gain levels set to before they go into your computer?
Hey Jrod! Thanks for this Vid! 😊😊😊😊😊😊😊🙌🙌👌 I use windows and I noticed that logic pro X is mainly for apple. What alternative program for mixing would you recommend for non Mac users?
Hey man , I’m a major fan of your content would love to know what software, mixer, plugins and interface you have on this .. I’m entirely new to all this ..
Personally, if it doesn't sound distorted, I ignore it (as far as the master fader inside the DAW). I just make sure that the signal from my interface isn’t clipping. I trust my ears more than my eyes when mixing.

Was just about to comment bout this. It'd be great if you upload again in stereo.
You are the best

Very well sir.. 🔥 🔥
Solid!
Thats very good sound bro, but you should use the gain structure bro, is very essential for your mixes
Chops are 🔥 bro
I had a question! What mic stands do you recommend and what audio interface/mixer do you use?
Let’s get it
hi
I get lots of bleeding through my mics. I am using earthworks and API for pre amps. My room is a medium size room, 10 foot ceilings.
last question,
do you do private lessons?
YOOOO! Thank you for this video. 🙏

Hopefully my question makes sense lol. Either way, great video! Keep the content coming!! 🙌🏽

However, I have heard of the significance of loading plug-ins in a specific order for a particular result (compressor before eq vice-versa). I can’t hear the difference, though.
I would like to see you play on one of CDUBS episodes. Reach out to him that would be dope.
J-Rod, thanks for the video! Are you using an interface or a mixing board/interface to record? I’m on the fence about getting a new interface or using a digital mixer as my interface. I try to keep everything between -18db and -10db.
Hey Jrod!
Thanks for this Vid! 😊😊😊😊😊😊😊🙌🙌👌
I use windows and I noticed that logic pro X is mainly for apple. What alternative program for mixing would you recommend for non Mac users?
I would recommend ProTools as an alternative, as it is regarded as the industry standard and is compatible with both Windows and Mac.
Make mastering video bro, please.
What’s the name of that track, and where can I find it. It’s slamming, bro!
@J-ROD do yo have/sell a Playalong without Drums for this Song? Like it very much :-)
great! thanks! any reverb used?
Not on this track/video but I do use reverb sometimes on my snare.
Thank u so much for this one🔥🔥..What reverb do u use for the drums?
I didn’t use any on this track but when I do, platinum reverb (logic plugin) for the snare only.
Hey man , I’m a major fan of your content would love to know what software, mixer, plugins and interface you have on this ..
I’m entirely new to all this ..
Software us logic pro X and the plug ins are in logic and the others are in the description of this video
What is the track you’re playing over called?
Finally, thank you dude. Sh!t.
What interface are you using?
Will you tell us where you got the drumless play along track at the intro to the video?
TH-cam “Funky Story” Drumless Track
What's the program your using? Meaning the app or some software, am really interested to mix sound to my kit
He’s using Logic Pro it’s only for Mac
hope it helps me
😮
What program are you using for all of this? I’m still new to the recording world so I’m unfamiliar with it
Logic Pro X 👍🏽
@@JRODSULLIVAN awesome, fantastic work on the video as always!
Hello @J-Rod Kindly What's the name of the Background Track
It’s a track called “Your Success”
hey man do you use a limiter on your master track before exporting
I do not
I noticed that your meter is in the red on your master. Do you do anything to help with clipping?
Personally, if it doesn't sound distorted, I ignore it (as far as the master fader inside the DAW). I just make sure that the signal from my interface isn’t clipping. I trust my ears more than my eyes when mixing.
@@JRODSULLIVAN thanks brother I appreciate that!!!
I hear a snare without snare, the question " Who do you do that " ?
But pls what's the meaning of that * Got Pocket * cms b4 videos or on outfits..
Check this out gotpocketapparel.com/pages/faq
Bro, don't u used reverb for snare and tom?
Sometimes but not always. On this particular track, I didn't.
Why are you mixing your sound with the Master flashing in red from 3-5 dB?
If it doesn’t sound distorted, I ignore it.
@@JRODSULLIVAN LOL
pls what app was used in this drum mix
Logic Pro X
You using interface or mixer?
Interface. Presonus Firestudio Project
Is this the whispers song?
No. An original drumless track called “Funky Story”
Name snare?
