Something I have seen in the wild is pawn shops or different stores that buy gold and silver over the counter from the public that don’t have a metal verifier to authenticate….. I find that crazy especially dealing with gold
There's a LCS near me that doesn't have a verifier. I asked about some 1 0z silver rounds he had for sale if he checked them and he said "why"? I said there's LOTS of fakes out there and he then tells me he's been dealing for 30+ years and knows his business. I walked out. I was stunned by his lack of street smarts on this subject. Great video Josh, keep em coming!
I trust the pocket Pinger I have. I could tell by the sound right away it wasn't real how wavy the sound is vs a real coin which sounds very consistent tone. Good educational video 👍
I purchased a 1909 Lincoln penny,1918, over 7 standing Liberty half dollar 1921 peac dollar, 1927 S peace dollar, and 1936 music half dollar. All of these coins were fakes
U can buy fakes anywhere. My last visit to my lcs, I bought a fake 26s buffalo nickel. Didn't know how to take it back to him . What do you say to him? His credibility as a coin guy is kinda over
You have to call out your LCS. If you don't, others will get scammed also. Perhaps they don't even know, and that's another reason why you should absolutely talk to them...

Really surprised about the Trade Dollar - it would have fooled me
Trade dollars are one of the most counterfeited and must use high caution and I would only buy them from a very trustworthy dealer

Hi Josh, Thank you for the learning experience. Seems like they are getting pretty good at counterfeiting.
Thank you ,great video..
Excellent video. Thank you!
Very interesting, to bad we don't know the exact metal in these two as these were not magnetic......
Great video Thanks
Thanks for this info!
Trade dollar? I bought a fake one 40+ years ago. Haven’t recovered yet. 😢
Testing platinum is a hard one
Thanks
the half i figured was fake. color is off and when it was dropped, it didn't make the right sound.
the trade dollar had me thinking though...
And yet NO ONE seems to want to do anything about all these fakes coming out of CHINA. go figure....
It gets a little ify, I ve noticed on those great deals sometimes it says “plated”…

Yeah prolly not easy to do but if you don't bring it up you aren't giving him the chance to make it right.
