I have only been into buying and selling coins for a year now and there’s just so much involved it’s pretty overwhelming. Guys like you are just helping learn this business so much that I can’t thank you enough man.
I picked up 50 Morgan's & 25 Peace Dollars from a collector. All common dates sold just above melt value. Peace's are pretty much all 1922/1923. Morgan's are quite a few 1921's. None hold numismatic value. The resistivity came back on a Sigma Metalytics Precious Metal Verifier between 1.85 - 2.55 (in the range of the Sigma for Pre-1900 90% silver). All passed specific gravity testing right around 10.34. The weight is consistent with the physical wear to each coin. They also all passed the Bullion Test App on the Morgan/Peace dollar setting. Even after all that, I still wonder if any could be fakes like the ones in this video. I'd love to collect more but you really do need a lot of knowledge. I would never catch the visual inconsistencies of the coins you showed.

As a Morgan guy, I found that a $2 magnet has saved me from a $2000 mistake a couple times. However, the best thing I found that save me a lot of money as a couple $20 books with photos and pictures. I just ordered an 87 Morgan dollar on ebay and this video came up. But it's in a pcgs case so I always feel better when it's graded and the seller has 100 percent feedback.

Probably the main reason I stopped buying raws. I try and purchase only slabbed coins, and specifically with the true view on the TPG website to ensure the same coin in the holder is what was authenticated during grading. It's a shame this is allowed.
It stands to reason if you think you're going to get a "great deal" on Ali Express, you're really just wasting your hard-earned money. Reputable sellers are not uncommon and you can buy with confidence. It pays to research!

Daniel, what do you think about a "Morgan" Silver dollar that weighs only 21,91 grams; 5 grams less than what it should be? I'm sure there's a good amount of silver, because it sounds good when it's dropped on a tile floor (not as good an original Morgan though)

I've been buying a few junk silver coins for awhile , Morgans and Peace dollars. I'm scared to even check them out ! Geeze ! Makes me sick. What about highly circulated pre '64 quarters ? Just subbed , Thanks !
Yes, none of them are safe from being counterfeited but I rarely see fake quarters. I have only see 5 or so in the last few years and I handle a lot of coins.
85 cc one you dont buy unless its graded lowest mintage of all morgans most were in the gsa and mint strikes are different from most mints example s are not the same as cc
I use a Niton XL3t GOLDD+ to check my PM's.. I work as a inspector in a chemical plant so use this PMI gun on a daily basis. This allows me to have a real 401k that I have possession of.. Not one that I am labeled the "beneficiary" of.
I got about five or six Morgan cc slabbed mint state from Stack's and the rest (another 6-7) from APMEX. I HOPE that gives me a real good shot at being legit.
Great content! Thanks for these videos. I went over to the VAM website and am amazed at how many variations there are for each date and mint. How do I know what to look for even if I know that my Morgan is an 1882-P??
Is it likely that there would be counterfeit Morgan Dollars for common dates like 1890 and 1896? Mine looks near Uncirculated and were bought from someone who had bought from a roll.
Thank you for this video , I'm new to collecting and already got burned on a Morgan dollar we bought , lucky for us we only spent 10 bucks , when we got the coin it says copy on the back ...
Great video, I picked the correct fake but I have one with very little wear. Are the fakes worth anything? Mine is made from silver at least 90 percent.
Fakes are becoming a big problem. I can eye them pretty good but when I go to buy I would buy from one of the big three bullion dealers and even then I still check them out very well. There are even fakes of Franklin half dollars. Thanks for the good info.
okay I've done many ways of detection of the fake coins but the easiest is you use your cellphone you grab one of your Morgan's that you know is real and you grab the one in question and you put them side-by-side and take a picture then with your phone you can magnify and see that the one that is fake as easily scene
Very informative. Big thanks from Ireland. Can u tell me a ball park figure of what you would pay for a pristine 1900 Morgan compared to what you'd pay roughly for a circulated but not tattered Morgan? 🤔 any help would be HUGELY appreciated.. Thanks in advance

Well I tell you this I bought 5 morgans off ebay and they past the weight test the magnet test only test they did not pass was the width test with the calipers me and buddy who owns a pawn shop who has been dealing with coins for years himself we both spotted it it was crazy and the coins if they was real went for thousands even used a file to scrap off some of the coin and he tested it to and it was not silver but they use a medal to where is does not stick to the magnet and matches the weight to fool people but they haven't yet got the width part down yet because they don't use the right medals but a average person who isn't aware of it will get beat I been collecting since 1984 and my father longer so I learned how to spot a fake I still have the coins to use in spotting fakes

I use a Niton XL3t GOLDD+ to check my PM's.. I work as a inspector in a chemical plant so use this PMI gun on a daily basis. This allows me to have a real 401k that I have possession of.. Not one that I am labeled the "beneficiary" of.
What is the first step to educating ourselves on fakes? You mentioned Vanworld or something like that
Read about and study the coins.
Just have to do the research
I have an 1847-CC Sitting Liberty complete with the Motto in a banner above the Eagle on the reverse!
Is it likely that there would be counterfeit Morgan Dollars for common dates like 1890 and 1896? Mine looks near Uncirculated and were bought from someone who had bought from a roll.
Every date has been counterfeited.
Great video. Buying from a reputable dealer who offers a lifetime guarantee of authenticity is a must!
Once again Dan you impress us all.
Thank you Mr Daniel this was a great and helpful video 👍👏😃
What did the fake 1882 O weigh? That wasn't even real silver. Was it magnetic and was the thickness and length the correct size?
All of that doesn't matter when the coin doesn't match die pairs or the strike and surfaces of a normal Morgan Dollar
Silver melt only
There are ads on Facebook for various Morgan dollars for far below what prices on APMEX- - less than $10 per Morgan dollar
Fakes are becoming a big problem. I can eye them pretty good but when I go to buy I would buy from one of the big three bullion dealers and even then I still check them out very well.
There are even fakes of Franklin half dollars. Thanks for the good info.
you mean slabbed Franklins or just loose?
@@teller121 I saw loose ones. But I am pretty certain graded ones too. China makes them in bulk and they sell them right on eBay and eBay let's them.
okay I've done many ways of detection of the fake coins but the easiest is you use your cellphone you grab one of your Morgan's that you know is real and you grab the one in question and you put them side-by-side and take a picture then with your phone you can magnify and see that the one that is fake as easily scene
thank you for your videos very helpful in coin collecting. Just curious what you all charge for cull morgans dollars
We don't have any. But usually $18
I wish your shop was in Middle TN.
I appreciate your honesty and love of coin collecting you have great advice thank you
I don't think I would have done well without your input. My apologies for misspeaking. Great job.
Nice video! It shows you what people do to make some easy money when we are not informed!

Yep. Portsmouth, Ohio.
