Patriarchs of zen are enlightened masters who considered these sutra's authentic. One enlightened master who recently passed away Nan Huai Chin believed the mahayana sutra's were authentic. @@arggh215theravada and mayahana has its own difficult situation in terms of cultivation. The way we live to obey precepts are way harder but the practice/cultivation to get into the Pure land(s) are much much easier. On the other hand, Theravada life style is easier than Mahayana( not saying it is as easy as normal folk life styles, it’s still hard but not harder than Mahayana). But the theravada cultivation is EXTREMELY HARD, TRUST ME It’s EXTREMELY HARD to THIS modern day. They practice theravada only for themselves, If those who are successful to become Arhat,they will certainly have 5 original magics like a Demigod (Monks who achieve this level, he or she can 100% be able to control their life and death situation, he or she is out of circulation of life: The Past, The present and the future, out of time flow of the universe. During the time of Gautama Buddha there were ascetics who practised extreme ascetic practices such as self mortification and animal lifestyles (dogs, cows, goats etc.) with the mistaken belief that those practices will lead to enlightenment and final liberation. The Buddha categorically declared that those practices will not lead one to enlightenment and final liberation. If you think that staying away from eating garlic or onions because its made from Asuras blood and bones and would take you in the path i that falls under Silabbada paramasa.
