Nice! Fancy biscuits, or plain?
Book haul time! 🎉
Another great video with so much to sit back and enjoy thanks John interesting, infotmative and entertaining as always
Fab, glad you enjoyed it, thanks for watching!
Jon, I'm so pleased to see that _Tusks of Extinction_ made it safe and sound! And thank you for the thank you. It was my pleasure. I realized in recent weeks that I forgot to put a note in the book. Instead, I am pretty sure I left the store's bookmark inside. Whoops.
Bookmarks always welcome! I'm forever misplacing mine. Cheers Kev, thanks for watching 👀!
The 1st 15 lives of Harry August is one I want to read soon. I'm glad to hear you liked it enough to spend money on a hardback.
Great book. One of my fave reads of 2023.
Really impressed by your copy of Robert’s History of Science Fiction. My memory may be off, but if not, it came out of a masters thesis (or PhD paper, I can’t recall), which is, to my mind, a dream subject to study.
There is a later revision, apparently, but this'll suit my purposes. The first fruits of my research will be out tomorrow! Thanks for watching 👀!
Dust jackets are just a maintenance nightmare.
Mmm, but sometimes so pretty! Thanks for watching 👀!
Informative! BTW, I like your t-shirt.
may the force be with you, and thanks for watching 👀!
Blimey John, hardcover heaven innit ? Can't say I've heard of any of 'em except the Priest and one of the Bears - maybe I should get a life. I sense some new bookshelf construction . . .yes??
I have shelf space, but not for hardbacks. It's an issue.....thanks for watching 👀!
Speaking of signed editions in Libraries..... When I was in the Air Force, and while stationed at Williams AFB, Arizona, the library on base had a copy of BAA BAA BLACK SHEEP signed by Pappy Boyington himself! I never wanted to NOT return a library book so badly. I often wonder what became of the books since that base was closed down years ago....
Sounds like a classic! 😀 thanks for watching 👀!
You should have kept it, ensuring a good home curated (you) by an appreciative reader. Hopefully it went to someone who appreciated it for the treasure it was. 😢😉
I love your shirt bro...
Thanks for watching 👀!
I would like to suggest finding the space opera series, Saga of the Seven Suns by Kevin Anderson. It now totals 9 books and a comic book graphic novel prequel to the entire series. I believe you would enjoy series.
Thanks. I read it years back and i thought it just about ok. Not one I'm in a hurry to re-acquire, didn't float my boat. 🤷♂️ thanks for watching 👀!
2 votes for being a Stross completionist. I remember the Gibson Trilogy as being quite fun with the right sense of scale for space opera
Hi Tom, I'm getting there! There's a lot of Laundry Files books I don't have, so might be a while before i get em all. Thanks for watching 👀!
A great haul, mostly books I never heard of until now … but I recently got a copy of LEGACY OF HEOROT in very good condition, based on (I think) a video on your channel. And let me just say that you seem to be one of the most grateful TH-camrs when it comes to gifts from other viewers.
I am genuinely super grateful! Blows my mind every time. Cheers, and thanks for watching 👀!
Oh, and Legacy of Heorot is great fun. 👍
You'll love it. Genuinely awesome book. It's like watching the movie Aliens...terror mixed in with satisfying heroics, pathos and determination. Genuinely good read.😉
Love the Clarke-inspired thumbnail Jon! Well done. Nice haul, very selective. Enjoy. Cheers.
cheers Rick, well spotted, and thanks for watching 👀!
Libraries are largely digital these days so withdrawal stamps are few and far between!
More's the pity, I think. Thanks for watching 👀!
Wow, what so beautiful books. If you find somewhere reading time somewhere please tell me. Enjoy
It's a challenge! Thanks Andrei, and thanks for watching 👀!
@@SciFiScavenger No need it's a pleasure .
Im trying to collect more sci Fi 😊
@YW2324 best of luck, thanks for watching 👀!
@@SciFiScavenger Of course 😁. Thanks so much 🙏🏻. I've collected some tv tie in books. Like star trek and doctor who. And some other stuff that looked interesting 😉
Hi John, well that was... (Note the tactical use of ellipses to build tension) expensive. I bought 5 books: Red Dust for the Jim Burns cover, The Queen of Springtime to replaced my old one, Traces by Stephen Baxter, Child of Time by Asimov/Silverberg and Otherness by David Brin because he's always fun.
Now that you've set the precedent, you're going to have to paraphrase lines from famous SF films for all your videos. The possibilities are endless: In space, no one can here you read. Put that book down, you B*TCH! The possibilities are endless! (No pressure)
Thanks for another great video.
Ah great, you followed the breadcrumbs! I was inspired for this thumbnail, just popped into my head. May never happen again! Glad you enjoyed it, thanks for watching 👀!
"In space, no one can HEAR you read." 😂🤣
Hm, Stealing Light sounds intriguing.
Yeah, sounds good. Thanks for watching 👀!
What does your library smell like? I heard that the cellulose in wood pulp paper degrades into vanillin but my house smells like various fur babies or I've become so used to it I can't smell it any more. I never had the sharpest nose anyway.
No particular odour, really, or not so as i notice. If you get close to the older books there is that must old paper smell (which I like).
I hate to say this Jon, but neither the Smoke Ring nor Dragons of Herot live up to the quality of the first books in the series. They're rather forgettable, even though I remember plot points from their predecessors. 😶.
However, like you I loved Legacy of Herot very much, and like you, I'm a completionist. 🙄. So your mileage may vary in enjoying Dragons of Herot. I remember being unable to finish reading Smoke Ring, but I didn't like Integral Trees very much either. Seriously, and honestly, I plodded through Rendezvous with Rama, and Ringworld. I just don't find Big, Dumb Objects books all that interesting. 🙄🐶
Update: On double Kindle day (today) finished getting the second Honor Harrington spin off series. Got all four Shadows of Saganami books. Frankly, I don't enjoy the main Honor Harrington series after book 8 or 9, but really enjoyed the Crown of Slaves series. I really enjoyed the first two Shadow of Saganami books, I'm hoping the remaining two are as good. 😮
Party pooper!! I'm mainly pleased to have such nice copies of the books. 😀📚✅️
Thanks for watching 👀!
Best thumbnail yet!
Thanks!
Is steaming better than a splash of lighter fluid?
I said steaming, i meant soaking. I just held a damp cloth to it for a few seconds, it came off no bother. For more sticky stuff you need a solvent.
Man, besides Greg Bears and KSRs books I haven´t even heard of some of the authors.
Hi Thorsten, awesome! Whole new worlds have been opened up for you! 📚📚📚
Thanks for watching 👀!
