I like how you said, we may never pass this way again so I'm going to take advantage of all the trail has to offer (or something like that). That is a good thing to remember whenever you are on the trail or in life in general.
Dear Rev: Good morning from a vicarious hiker from Alabama! Welcome to the state and CDT! Just wanted to tell you that your trail videos serve as primers for hikers. You offer nice pauses for views and steady pans. Also excellent editing and narratives. Thank you for sharing your daily walks.
Rev, Great video! "One of the highest of human duties is the duty of encouragement… It is easy to laugh at men’s ideals; it is easy to pour cold water on their enthusiasm; it is easy to discourage others. The world is full of discouragers. We have a Christian duty to encourage one another. Many a time a word of praise or thanks or appreciation or cheer has kept a man on his feet. Blessed is the man who speaks such a word." Rev, your a man who speaks such a word.
The brown water snake is very heavy-bodied, and its neck is distinctly narrower than its head. Dorsally, it is brown or rusty brown with a row of about 25 black or dark brown, square blotches down its back. Smaller similar blotches alternate on the sides. The brown water snake (Nerodia taxispilota) is a large species of nonvenomous natricine snake endemic to the southeastern United States....Maybe? When I was maybe four or five I found one and bring it proudly home one day, my mother was just as unimpressed with it as the stink snake I got all the way into the kitchen before it lived up to its name. Momma said leave'em outside, not in my house, pointing to the door. You did the right thing leaving it outside. Thanks for jogging my memories.
Hello Rev. I just want to let you know how informative and inspiring your vlogs are to me and so many others! And I'm sure someone has already chimed in, but that snake was a copperhead, and he could have really ruined your day. Their bite isn't usually fatal for humans, but quite painful, and most definitely would have made you very sick.
Good morning Rev. Greatly enjoyed this video of the Pinhoti Trail. It's great how you show yourself walking but also that you show the trail itself. Always enjoy the way you do that. It is truly beautiful trail despite the road walking. Nice to hear the running water and see the waterfalls. Breakfast looked great especially the grits.
Hi Rev, I throughly enjoy your trail adventures. There are all sorts of people out on the trails including men of the cloth. In the movie The Way, Martin Sheen's character is completing the hike for his recently deceased son. Sheen meets Frank the Catholic priest from New York, also hiking The Camino de Santiago. Frank is wearing a yarmulke to cover a recent brain surgery site on the back of his head. Frank has cancer that will probably return, or so he has been told. However, presumably, like others on this pilgrimage, he'd like a miracle cure. I'd love to hear comments on the reasons hikers are taking or taken any hike. Happy Trails to all ! ;-)
There are as many reasons why people hike as there are people. I personally hike because I can.😁👍❤️ I’ve got to watch that movie. Someone else recommended it to me.
12:05 what a great place to freshen up!!!! and by the way, that breakfast looked great, thanks, now I'm hungry! funny thing, my Dad was from Kentucky and he didn't like Grits, I love them. Stay Safe!
I feel about grits the way I do about protein shakes or smoothies, or anything mushy and soft - I'll eat it when my teeth are gone! Until then, things need to be chewy or crunchy. lol - Love the footage of the critters on the trail. thanks for sharing.
That dinner you had at Dry Creek of cheese, summer sausage, and peanut butter was a humdinger :) but discussion of breakfast the next morning was completely accurate. Grits with butter and salt.
You described the perfect breakfast, although I see you even added County ham, perfect choice! Happy hiking and I would love to see you hiking the AT. Three years and six months until retirement and then I can get out there too.
Thanks for taking us along. what was the name of that restaurant at the end. Agree on Grits comment. Trail looks great so far. That rattlesnake looked like a pygmy Rattlesnake.
Really enjoyed this rev and it looks like you’ve got your trail legs. You didn’t mention it but it be nice to know your daily miles at the end of each day. I know you’re not going super far but it be nice to know to get a perspective. Oh and last thing, no grits!
That breakfast looked good. Except for the grits. That is entirely a Southern thing that I could never get into when I lived in NC for a few years 😂 but I do know to serve it with butter and salt at least 😉
Nice looking trail! Quote a lovely area. We have logging going on around us, and while I know it has to be done at times, it still breaks my heart to see things ripped up. Fortuiit doesny take long fornthe forest to recover. Happy trails!
@@TheHikingRev I agree. As much as I hate to see beautiful trees cut down, forest fires are even worse. I see the fires out west every summer and it is sad.
You are getting so good at making these videos so enjoyable to watch. Beautiful footage (it must be exhausting to film and then go back to get your phone each time). You didn’t mention ticks so they must not be a problem. Beautiful snake- hope it wasn’t venomous. Are there many other hikers on the trail? Glad you are staying safe and injury free!
Hey Rebecca. How’s my Echo? As long as you enjoy my videos, I’ll keep making them and going back for the camera. I got one tick on me which I promptly removed. But the biggest problem are the chiggers or redbugs. Very itchy. There are not a lot of other hikers on the trail. I did meet a couple of guys in the Cheaha wilderness.😁👍❤️
@@TheHikingRev I’m not familiar with chiggers- yikes! Echo lost her BFF last Sunday. We were all hiking and Snickers (brothers dog) suddenly went lame- had to be rushed to ER. At 14, probably shouldn’t have taken her on trails with hills. 😭. She didn’t make it. You be careful out there!!
Yet another great video Rev. Really inspirational to those of us fellow hikers longing for the solitude of solo thru-hikes. On average, how many days of food between re-supplies on the Pinhoti Trail?
