More great content, can't wait to see where you go and what you do next. How about one where the wife is driving?

The overall carbon footprint would make an intriguing comparison.

I always tell people the seatbelts in my MGB are so the EMTs won't have to search for your body. You are very lucky sir!

Another factor I personally like to consider is when putting fuel in your car, I like to enjoy burning my money rather than hating it, my classic displaces 6.3litres with 8 cylinders, makes around 300hp, weighs 2.5 imperial tons. Around the houses in moderate traffic I get around 14mpg, on a run, nearer 20mpg as I’ve improved it with a modern carburettor and more efficient exhausts, car is 58 years old and an absolute death trap in the wrong hands. I drive it accordingly and I’m never distracted by gadgets because it hasn’t got any, not even a radio, sound entertainment comes from the exhausts, no power steering, no power brakes, but the buzz I get driving it is out of this world, being loud, it saves lives too because pedestrians, etc., can hear me coming, it has lap belts in the front and no crumple zones, I keep it extremely well maintained which is pretty simple unlike modern stuff and it’s not a plastic fire hazard, driven accordingly, I’d say a pretty damn safe car! 🤠👍

Sounds fantastic.... one thing I didn't get onto was the emotion of driving your pride and joy, we would never trade all of that!😀😀

Good stuff. The point you make about the safety comparison and how you drive the MG with more care (though I guess you drive the Merc with care too!), does show that safety isn't just about the car, but really about the driver. You might drive the car with the best safety rating in the world, but if you drive it like Frank Spencer it'll be a dangerous car. Having a car that engages the driver and give you plenty of feedback (like the MG does) will more likely be driven well and avoid getting into accidents in the first place. Older cars usually have better visibility for the driver too, unlike modern cars with thick pillars and tiny windows; often an overlooked safety factor it seems.

Great video.Would love to see one that compares a more practical classic like a 40 yr old Saab 900 or a mk1 range Rover. My 2002 Saabs have no issue with ULEZ BTW.

Surprised by how low insurance costs are in England. Fuel is much higher, though, but not as much of a difference as it used when compared to the higher fuel costs we now have in the states. Annual car registration fees can run into the thousands of dollars here depending on the state. Emission and safety checks vary depending on the State. Some states are proposing a new annual road tax on EV's on top of the annual registration fees due to not having to pay fuel taxes. Roads have to be fixed.
EV's are looking very cost effective, especially long term. After about 3-years they start putting money back in your pocket. The new Tesla heavy semi-trucks are expected to pay for themselves in operational costs savings in less than 3-years. New Tesla semi base cost_ $150,000. Estimated savings over 3-years $200,000.
We are in a Transportation and energy transformation period. It can't happen fast enough.

Hi, there interesting article. In terms of environmental cradle to grave carbon use, the longevity of the MG wins over the Merc. Sorry.

MGBs and the others don’t effect the climate and MGBs are clean compared to diesel cars.

Brexit should have put an end to EURO legislation.
    That includes EURO emissions standards.
Especially as the UK produces less than 1% of the worlds pollution.
Why are we still following the EU guff. The white shirts need to get it sorted or find another job.
